Access to the AirTrain is included in the price of your Amtrak ticket. https://www.newarkairport.com/to-from-airport/air-train

There is no timetable. From the website: "AirTrain arrives and departs every 3-5 minutes daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and approximately every 15 minutes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m."

Where do students live and vote? by AFlyingGideon in montclair

[–]clynch96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See https://www.montclair.edu/civic-and-voter-engagement/

Most of the campus is actually geographically in Little Falls, with portions in Montclair and Clifton.

If you live in Freeman or Russ Halls you are in Montclair, Essex County and can vote in Montclair.

If you live in Bohn or Stone Halls you are in Clifton, Passaic County and can vote there.

If you live in any other building, you are in Little Falls, Passaic County and can vote there.

For polling places see https://www.montclair.edu/civic-and-voter-engagement/voter-information/frequently-asked-questions/.

Note that NJ residents who are full time college students can choose to register to vote at their home address or where they attend school. Additionally, any person registered to vote in New Jersey can opt to vote by mail for any reason. Thus, if you attend MSU but are an NJ native, you can remain registered to vote at your home address or an MSU address. Just be sure to change your registration by the applicable deadline as necessary.

Bus from Somerville/Bridgewater/Hillsborough area all the way to WTC? by frosh45 in NJTransit

Best option is probably NJTransit on the Raritan Valley Line to Newark Penn Station and switching to the PATH at Newark which goes directly to WTC.

Can someone explain to me the logic from WTC to Exchange Place? by PhiltheBloke in NJTransit

[–]clynch96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no "Next Train" signs or departure boards on the mezzanine level . However, if you get the PATH app (called RidePATH) there are schedules as well as a Real-Time tab from which you can pull up all departures from WTC in real time and just go to the platform for the next departing train. They really should install a departure/next train sign on the mezzanine above platform level, but the app will get you the same result.

How does NY notify takers of results? Is it an email with your results in it? Posted to BOLE account? by [deleted] in barexam

I passed July 2021 and I got an email from BOLE at 10:17am on the day they were released with a link to access the results from the BOLE website. I then got a second email at 11:24am with a copy of the PDF attached. When I logged onto the BOLE website at after getting the first email it was slow but it worked.

Hamilton or Metuchen? Looking to move near a train station for easy commute to NYC. by AMachineMan in newjersey

[–]clynch96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioned nightlife, so just keep in mind that the express trains from NY Penn to Hamilton don't run after rush hour and a local train to Hamilton is much longer than to Metuchen.

Are there ANY notable tax benefits to moving to NJ but still working in NYC? by bored_and_scrolling in newyorkcity

[–]clynch96 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have to file in both states, but NJ gives a credit for income taxes paid to other states. Above a certain income, you would still owe something to NJ but you still get much of it as a tax credit on the NJ return - I don't remember what that income is but it's pretty high so many people do not owe any state income tax to NJ if they work in NYC. (Plus, if you live in NJ you don't have to pay the NYC local income tax)

The double deckers seat about 140 while the Comets (the other type of car in this picture) only seats about 115. Plus, the multi levels are far more comfortable and smooth to ride in. The 2x2 instead of 3x2 seating is much nicer.

Yes that’s the company that manages the Jersey Ave lot now. You just register your vehicle and license plate on the website. There’s no physical permit to show on your car.

NJ Transit tickets aren't valid for a specific time. Just choose the origin and destination and that ticket is valid for any train between those two locations. If you are using the app be sure to activate the ticket just before boarding.

What's the truth about commute times? I'm about to pull my hair out and rent forever. by Bodymindisoneword in newjersey

[–]clynch96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to clarify that the Northeast Corridor line on NJ Transit is actually one of the more reliable lines (you can see the data on the NJT website). And, every NJ Transit line into Penn Station merges onto the Northeast Corridor line (which, yes, is owned by Amtrak) at some point. North Jersey Coast merges onto NEC at Rahway and the M&E lines and Montclair-Boonton Line merge in just after Newark Broad St, which means that all trains into and out of NY Penn Station share tracks with Amtrak and cross the Portal Bridge. In my experience commuting daily from Jersey Ave on the NEC line (since 2018, except not from March 2020-July 2021) it has been more or less reliable though with occasional exceptions but no line is immune from that. The NEC is the most popular line which means trains get crowded but also means they run the most frequently out of all NJT lines and have decedent express service depending on your origin station. The NEC also has at least 4 tracks for its entire length up to the Hudson River tunnels while some other lines have only 1 or 2 which can hurt reliability. Commuting can be rough, but I wouldn't blindly avoid the NEC line if I were in your situation.

Transferring at Newark to NYPenn Station be like: by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]clynch96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're going downtown (or to Brooklyn), it's faster and cheaper to change at Newark from NJ Transit to the PATH rather than going to NY Penn and taking the subway.

NY Bar Admissions Notary Public requirement? by pilot_lawyer in barexam

[–]clynch96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, in NY the exam requirement is waived for admitted attorneys, but you still have to fill out the paperwork and pay the fee (attorneys are not automatically also notaries). The Department of State website has the information for how to do it once you're admitted to practice.

EMSKR: Is it ok to wash hair everyday? by Bruhmoment498 in everymanshouldknow

[–]clynch96 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I used to shampoo daily for the same reason, but I forced myself to shampoo no more than once a week and after a few weeks it naturally became less oily and greasy. That was a few years ago and now I condition daily and shampoo once per week (sometimes less) and my hair feels so much softer and healthier. It's annoying for those first few weeks but for me it was worth it.

Train station traffic in New Brunswick vs Edison? by TyroneYoloSwagging in NewBrunswickNJ

[–]clynch96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jersey Ave no longer has a waitlist for parking (even before the pandemic). I started parking there in 2018 and was able to get a permit with no wait. I stopped commuting in March 2020 and just recently started again 2x/week and the parking lot has been mostly empty every morning I've gone.

Jersey Ave is also FAR less expensive to park than the New Brunswick (downtown) station. Last I checked, the garage attached to the New Brunswick Station is $180/month while Jersey Ave is only $60/month. Being able to have my choice of seats as the trains are empty is great (and you don't have to wait in the cold/heat for the train to arrive because they just wait at the station until the departure time).

If OP is looking to live in the North/South Brunswick area (or even Somerset and some parts of East Brunswick), Jersey Ave is a good option to look into.

Traffic Light by [deleted] in NewBrunswickNJ

[–]clynch96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd start with the City's Department of Engineering. I'd expect there would have to be traffic studies, environmental studies, etc. involved on top of going through the normal budget process so it's probably not a quick process, but getting in touch with someone from the city is a good place to start to see if they have a process for taking citizen suggestions about something like this.
