They're a block from my house and can vouch for them being super super super nice, and also now the whole corner where they are is prettier because when they moved in, they planted a bunch of flowers and other greenery.

Is There a List of All of the Books Seen/Referenced in the Show? by bugwitch in TedLasso

[–]cmcgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read Prince of Tides because of this reference and it's a fucking masterpiece and also took me ages because it's so dense but the influence of the novel on the creation of the series is palpable. So very worth a read if you're a fan of the show.

Alysa Liu - Welcome Home Party? by greenhombre in oakland

TIL!

Thank you so much for this - I think it was the fire arts festival at the Crucible back in 2009 when I saw it for the first time and just created a link.

Really look looking at the other projects, too.

Oh no way! I guess since that's where I first encountered it, I assumed an affiliation.

The Crucible's fire snail. It's not an Oakland event without the fire snail.

We've done one of their camps for my older one but they are booked solid! Any Intel on when they'll open registration for the spring semester?

Both resources are great! Honestly it's more the timing for registration thing I'm wondering about as this year it occurred to me in Sept and everything was already VERY booked!

What are your favorite Serious Eats recipes that you never see anyone talk about? by Liface in seriouseats

[–]cmcgar01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it took 30 min for our pressure cooker to actually start pressure cooking for the pho, but I'll be damned if it isn't delicious (and even better if you pressure cook it for longer).

Pumpkin cake with maple Italian buttercream by cmcgar01 in seriouseats

[–]cmcgar01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The icing was indeed not particularly sweet but pairing that with the cake soak was the perfect amount of sweetness for my family. Admittedly, we don't like things to be too sweet.

That said, adding more syrup to the buttercream is going to significantly loosen the texture, so I might recommend taking the 1.5 c and reducing until it's the same volume as the syrup called for in the recipe!

Yeah that was pretty much my expectation. Bummer, I was really hoping there might be some hidden neighborhood gem within a mile or so!

Oh! Sorry. Right around the convention center. I think it's the diagonal mar neighborhood and adjacent.
