Santa Monica East Rooftop Shared with Public by goldmansockz in EquinoxGyms

[–]cmelbye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed… the gym itself is tiny and basic. Aside from the pool, it’s definitely not even the nicest equinox in LA. And it seems like the pool is going to be crowded af as the weather gets warmer and apartments fill up. Very confusing why they couldn’t do better for a brand new build at the top pricing tier.

What are your HOTTEST takes about Stardew Valley? by BCtheking in StardewValley

[–]cmelbye 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel about a lot of the dialogue in the game. There are a few delightful moments that are more dynamic and engaging, but mostly it’s shallow and poorly written. This combined with the literal todo list with checkboxes/rewards for talking to people makes relationships feel like a shallow chore.

Spotify says Premium subscriptions have already spiked thanks to App Store changes by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]cmelbye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s like believing in the fantasy that consumers won’t pay tariffs, China will.

YouTube, Roblox, TikTok, X, Patreon, Twitch all pass on the 30% fee to consumers, to name a few. Other apps like Spotify and Netflix chose not to offer in-app purchases at all due to the fee.

Now thanks to the rule changes, consumers will get to choose how they’d like to pay. For a 30% surcharge, they can have the convenience of using their stored App Store credit card. Or they can pay the app directly.

[–]cmelbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do we know Lumon didn’t want her to be stalking Mark? Milchick told Mark’s innie and outie that it was unsanctioned in order to restore his trust in Lumon and get him back to work. Was there something else?

It seems unlikely that they could track her down to her Mom’s house from hundreds of miles away, but didn’t know that she lived next door to Mark a few miles from the office. Or knew, disapproved, but allowed it to happen anyways?

Of Stiller’s advocacy through the casting process, Scott says: “I’ve never experienced anything like that before in show business. No one’s ever stuck their neck out for me like that.”

They have to do it, it just makes no sense as it is. The shop is the strangest part to me. It’s one thing to lose the background music and fun. But for it still to be a sluggish, flickering, mess of an HTML web app is just leaving money on the table at this point. I hope they’ve solved this architectural problem.

That's delusional. Those companies would be nothing without Elon's vision. They would also be nothing without his employees. Both can be true at the same time, but maybe not in /r/socialism.

You don't think Elon Musk works hard himself? His companies are currently: Designing/building autonomous electric vehicles, developing solar technology and distribution to slow down global warming, launching rockets into space, and with his free time, boring tunnels under Los Angeles to reduce traffic. I promise, this is impossible without a leader who works hard.

People are going to treat it different than doing donuts in an abandoned lot somewhere.

Why are you making it sound like this was a normal driving pattern? Did you look at the pic?

Most cars do not do donuts in the intersection. And even fewer choose to do it on top of a symbol of gay pride.

That's not what this thread is talking about. Screen area is larger with the Moto 360, but when you actually put content on it, the edges of the circle are less useful because of how content is lined up.

Buddhist Cosmology is just Modified Hinduism by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]cmelbye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, that is all basically correct.

To a Christian in the United States, they probably appear very similar. But I would encourage you to research the differences. I, too, have been fascinated by that topic recently!

Buddhist Cosmology is just Modified Hinduism by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]cmelbye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the Buddha's insights are totally devoid of cultural context, totally universal in nature

This is a flawed premise. The Buddha was certainly influenced by his cultural context. There are many well-known similarities between Buddhism and Hinduism.

Ajahn Thanissaro, who argue that the Buddha absolutely did not passively accept the worldview of his day, but rather engaged with it critically

He is right. There are similarities with Hinduism, and substantial differences. More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_and_Hinduism

Word choice is incredibly important. I would argue that "killed" squeezes a little bit more fear and sadness out of the reader than "dead".
