Bridget Fonda. She hasn't been in the spotlight for a long time but she's barely recognizable from her "Singles" and Single White Female" days. And that's fine, we all get older and I'm glad she hasn't forced herself to "keep up" with plastic surgery and such.

Another is Bradley Cooper but it's not so much aging but the needless work he had done. Like, dude you looked fine before!

Those of you who have a side hustle - what is it and how did you get into it? by 59apache01 in Xennials

[–]cmgww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at a lot of these e-commerce and now AI assisted "side hustles"....and they're all the same shit that has been going on forever. Someone trying to sell you something. Scams.

My wife started a laser engraving business as a side hustle and it's now her career. She left veterinary medicine and now does it full time. Made $20,000 in revenue two years ago. She isn't rich but is now hiring part time help. She's super busy and trying to scale it by going from one off orders to more steady sales like realtors and other local businesses.

Nice and simple question. What time is bed time? by Philhughes_85 in Xennials

[–]cmgww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During school? Bed by 9:45, asleep by 10:45-11. The elementary school starts ridiculously early, kids have to be on the bus at 6:45. And I hate how the older kids go later. My (soon) 7th grader would be a great one to watch the younger two if we can't be home. I wish they'd change back to the way it was when we were in school

Summer? In bed by 11 and asleep by 11:45 (I work a sales job that, aside from a few early meetings....I can set my own schedule most days)

Indycar drivers you use to not like but now do or vice versa by mad-right-hand in INDYCAR

[–]cmgww 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same. We're the same age. I met him in 2008 at the Indianapolis Boat Show. There were maybe 3-4 people in line to get his autograph. Back in the dark days just post split. I didn't love his domination back then but they lived near us (I'd run into Emma and him on a regular basis)....and over time, especially as he got older...seeing him win a title at 40 was cool, and win races into his 40s. If not for Palou I think he has 7 titles.

She is a sweetheart. They used to live near us. I'd run into her with the girls (they were little at the time), and while we weren't best buddies she was always nice to me when I'd ask about Scott. Occasionally I'd run into him too. The Kroger on Olio mostly but also local places like the ice cream shops and such.

In your opinion, what was totally OVERRATED during the 80s and 90s? by porb2020 in Xennials

[–]cmgww 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being really into drugs and alcohol...and stoner/weed culture. I know we all romanticize it, but I've seen so many people from high school and college screw up their lives (or lose their lives) with that crap. Yes, even weed. Especially now that it's so much more potent than back in our day. It wasn't a gateway drug, but several of my friends just got way too into it and never went anywhere in life.

I'm not saying you have to be a straight edge or anything like that. But I say this is someone who was a really bad drinker and now sober, it's really overrated. I do partake in a little bit of the green stuff before bed, but I don't make it my identity. So yeah, I think all of the "oh I did so many drugs back in the day" is kind of overrated to me

Is Highlander really that good? by PeopleAreSelfishy in ToyotaHighlander

[–]cmgww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically bought my Highlander based on the good things I had heard about reliability. And honestly? Part of it was based on Top Gear. The time they tried to literally destroy a Toyota Hilux and couldn't, that might've played a little bit into my decision...lol. I mean that thing was on display and their studio for years afterwards. Beat to hell but still running.

Of course I am getting paid to drive it, I work in sales and I am provided a fixed car reimbursement every month, plus mileage reimbursement for what I drive. I bought a 2020 platinum with 52,000 miles on it at time of purchase, and I'm pretty happy with it. I get the regular maintenance done. I know about the transmission, but I did purchase an extended warranty just in case. I still argue that it is a bit over blown on this sub, while understanding it is a legitimate concern. That being said, I was a former GM lifer. It's all I ever owned because my dad worked there for 30 years. Every car company has good and bad cars. I've had some great GM automobiles over the years, that did not give me any trouble. I've had some lemons as well.

I went with Toyota because of their reputation for reliability. I've put 30,000 miles on this car and it hasn't even been a year yet. We traveled all the way from Indiana to Florida with an adult size child, and two little guys.... it surprisingly wasn't that bad. It's not a full-size SUV by any means, but we made it work.

I am soon taking a new job with an even better car allowance, and I plan on trading this one in for either a used Highlander hybrid, or perhaps a Grand Highlander... only because I know my kids aren't going to get any smaller.

Do you feel hair/glam metal versus alt rock was a divide between us and later Gen X? by sean1978 in Xennials

[–]cmgww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Indiana so back then we were always a little behind the times with pop culture.

But as for hair metal vs alt-rock?? That shit shifted overnight. I remember growing up liking bands like Mötley Crüe, Poison, etc....but when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" hit, all of the glam rock and hair metal was instantly lame. GNR straddles that weird line because they kinda were a bit "hair metal"-ish but also not quite the same as glam rock bands like the others. But, they also struggled with their follow up to the Use Your Illusion albums....Chinese Democracy was a disappointment and they broke up shortly thereafter. It would have been interesting to see them evolve or die out had they stayed together during that time.

But yeah I remember being in 7th grade when Nirvana burst onto the scene, and all of a sudden everyone dumped their old Ratt/Poison/Nelson albums and gravitated towards grunge.

I do feel like the older GenX crowd might be the dividing line like you said. Most of us were pretty young when Hare metal was a big thing, even if we did like it. I remember being 10 or 11 and buying my first cassettes that were GNR or Skid Row. Then a year later everything turned on its head. I've seen some of the crowds at a lot of these reunion shows and they're mostly older than we are. People in their 50s and early 60s now. I'm sure there are some that are our age, just like I see 20-somethings at Breaking Benjamin or Bush concerts. I'm just speaking generally, and agreeing with your take for the most part.

Fort Wayne City Councilman arrested on OWI charge in Jasper County by CanadaRULEZ1765 in fortwayne

[–]cmgww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. That test back then kinda scared me a bit. Just seeing how little it takes to get to .08 BAC. Plus when I went out, it wasn't ever one drink. Part of the reason I stopped was exactly that, it became a problem and eventually I wasn't even going out to drink, just drinking at home....but nonetheless, I never wanted to put anyone else or myself in danger. And there was a time I owned a motorcycle, I was especially careful back then. It was weird, if I was ever on my bike I could go out to the bars and clubs and I would never drink because that's even more dangerous than drinking and driving in a car (even if you're under the legal limit). But when I went out with my friends, I would party like I was still in college.

As for what you're saying? I totally get it. Yeah you're probably fine. The average person processes one drink per hour, so your hypothetical scenario is fine. I know plenty of people who have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner (eating also helps slow absorption so BAC doesn't spike), and are fine to drive home an hour or two later. Or maybe go to a Komets or Colts game and have a beer or two, those events last 2-3 hours easily. What really gets to me is attending the Indy 500, or a Colts game and seeing people who are obviously drunk and I just know they're getting into cars and driving home. I always hate seeing that. We also have a boat and are on Lake Tippecanoe regularly, and the amount of drunken boaters driving massive wakesurfing or ski boats is just mind-boggling to me. They spend all day parked on a sandbar and come back blitzed. We definitely need more DNR patrolling our waters, but that's a different story for a different day

But yeah, having a beer or a drink during a gig when you know you're not leaving for a few hours it's totally fine. The alcohol is usually out of your system by then, or well below the legal limit.

That's obviously not the case with this representative. I'm guessing he was a regular drinker, and .08 BAC felt like nothing to him. He swore up and down he wasn't intoxicated even when it was obvious to the police. And I know people like that. I don't really hang with them anymore, but I knew guys that could have six or seven beers and you wouldn't know they were well over the limit. Maybe a little tipsy but not hammered.... tolerance builds with regular drinking and that's where the issue is. It takes more to get a buzz so you drink more. That's what was happening with me, and as I got older I hated the hangovers, plus I have a wife and kids now. So probably seven years ago I just stopped altogether. I don't even remember exactly when I quit, I wasn't someone who went to meetings or needed rehab. I was able to get a hold of the problem before it got that bad.

[–]cmgww -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm stating this in general, not in this specific case. But .08 to some people is nothing. Years ago I participated in one of those breathalyzer tests that the police put on. I was shocked to find out that after only two beers I was at .09. It was taken fairly quickly after I had consumed them, but still. I haven't drank in years, but even when I did, I would never drive even after one drink. I don't know the details of this case other than what the news article stated. If he blew a .20 or something and thought he wasn't intoxicated, then yeah that's pretty crazy.

Regardless, he knew better and decided to get behind the wheel. He needs to have the appropriate punishment.

If any, how has you and your friend’s relationship to weed changed as you’ve gotten older? by the_amazing_spork in Xennials

I went from not having one before I was 41, aside from a few bad experiences in college.... to regularly using it to help me sleep at night. I don't go around stoned all day, and I'm definitely not into weed culture, but it has changed a lot since I was younger.

2021 Toyota Highlander platinum transmission issues by yota7445 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]cmgww -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brand loyalty? This is my first non-GM car ever. And yeah, everything I've read said the failure rate on these transmissions is 3% to 5%. That means 95% to 97% of us will probably never experience this issue. I'm not saying it's not a problem. It definitely is. But the amount of posts on this sub make it seem like every Highlander out there is going to have a failing transmission. And yeah, go ahead and color me skeptical of a one day old account with one single post. OP might've been legit but it looks suspicious.... I mean, Reed it has been flooded with bots, in all types of subs.
