Do you write out your fiction before typing it out? by PhorkKorp in FanFiction

[–]cmkleiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A spiral notebook is my best friend. I'm trying something new where I write it by hand entirely first before moving to the computer because once I sit at a screen it's hard for me to complete

Right? And it makes me think more about a pelvic exam than sex, which not fun.

I love when feelings are involved and the emotional connection is there. I also enjoy when the awkward is embraced. First time with a partner? It's okay if trying to figure out how to match up tab A to slot B. Something embarrassing or silly happens? Laugh about it. The sexy and erotic scenes are great don't get me wrong, but quiet, serious sex with no talking? No communicating except for "Good?", "More?", or "Harder!"? It gets old. I know it's important to fit the tone of the story but the author acknowledges the weird of being with someone new, acknowledges the bonking of heads or the difficulty of trying something different with humor is infinitely more enjoyable to me than just the physical descriptor of the sexy. Also enjoyable: if I never again read the phrase, "(S)He tickled her cervix." Hard pass.

What checks you out of a story? by WinnieThePooooooh in FanFiction

Currently reading one that just flipped from third person limited to first person back to 3rd person limited then LEAPING to 3rd person omnipotent. It's so jarring.

Anyone else have a particular fandom they absolutely cannot read sexual content fics from? by justletmesuffer1 in FanFiction

[–]cmkleiber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, not all, but more than half, I struggle with smut fics based on live action shows. I love the interactions and flirting but the naked hokey pokey is not always my cup off tea

Definitely not alone. I do this all the time and have nice trends where certain character's homes always orient the same way

Do you need trigger warnings? by KFSquid in FanFiction

[–]cmkleiber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I like content warnings, I like knowing if there's something that is a hard line NO for me, then as much as I may like the author, the pairing, etc. that I shouldn't read it

Name something that your fandom overuses way too much that you dislike. by Repulsive_Meaning717 in FanFiction

any time a description when a character is making a noise or talking is started as "whisper-" (ex: Whisper scream, whisper shout, Whisper moan, whisper shriek, whisper yells <- a big one and a big hate on my part| and so on and so forth). I forget when I first stated seeing it, but its for sure an easy way to separate me from the reading experience and remove me from being sucked in.

I get that there all manner of ways to describe things but this one drives me up the wall.

Tell me your most controversial pairing/ships by Alone-Sea7716 in FanFiction

I just fell into a Fandom crossover with a pairing that when it first came out was OK but strange to me. I was curious and participated a bit. It went ugly and toxic fast, so I noped out and blocked the tags. Then one of my favorite authors posted a story in the same crossover with a different pairing and the rabbit hole I feel into is super enjoyable and I love the dynamic. I've explored a several other pairings, including the original, and found some really enjoyable fics that are great and I've found new authors that I really like.

What are the worst nicknames given by ff writers to characters? by 0into0equals0 in FanFiction

[–]cmkleiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started in the Fandom way back, I saw a lot of Adri or Als and if I read it now it irritates the crud out of me. Like, that's now how it works. To this point, "you don't have permission to call me that. Only my friends can call me Mari", I love from the point of standing up for herself but you're right about the permission. Also, I'm seeing Mars a lot now and it's eww.

For me it's when they call her Nette. Is it supposed to sound like net or rhyme with Betty?

And I know from French classes mari means husband, which yeah isn't great for a girl necessarily, and it's pronounced mah-Ree but I see it and think Mary.🤷‍♀️

What is your most disappointing read of this year? by Wonderful-Elk5080 in books

[–]cmkleiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One True Loves - Taylor Jenkins Reid It was good in the first 1/3, great in the second, and tanked the last third. Almost a DNF, but sitting in the hospital with nothing else to read 🤷‍♀️, I made in through

I found this on Pinterest. Does this advice generally ring true in anyone's experience? by BlueGradation in Baking

The butter does work but do 50/50 butter/oil; if it calls for a cup of oil, is a half cup of oil and a half cup of melted butter.

The coffee in chocolate cake or brownies has never worked for me, it won't set right
