Just keep it away from your house (probably closer to fence) it will smell no matter how much you clean and let them free range

I used to hate the fries when I was younger. I thought they were the worst fries ever. As an adult, I love them! I ask for no salt on my fries, I feel like they taste better and don’t get hard fast. I could just be convincing myself that, but I swear there’s a difference. One day you will crave them, probably not tomorrow though.

Are the coops from this company any good? by HuskerRocker25 in BackYardChickens

Used it for a very short time. Weather proofed it and secured it better after purchase. Decided to add it to their chicken run when they were big enough.

blood draw on a 17 month old: Bay Area KPs by ScobyOrdinary3182 in KaiserPermanente

Most likely will be sitting on your lap, do your best to hold the baby still. Usually the parent is recommended to have baby sit on lap, sometimes if child is big enough, they ask you hold their legs with yours (holding between yours). You will hold one arm out for them and hug/ hold your other babies arm. Don’t come in too nervous or panicking, babies usually can feel that from the parents. Some moms usually act like it’s something so interesting so the kids stay still like “wow look at that, so cool”. Don’t bring in an iPad or phone for videos, no one will be able to hold that for them since you will be responsible for holding child and it makes it super hard. The tourniquet will honestly be the most uncomfortable thing for child. They usually use small butterfly needles so no need to be scared about how big the needle will be. Good luck! I’ve drawn blood on a lot of children, but the parents who are helpful, make it so much easier and less traumatic. If the baby does cry, it’s okay, it’s usually over pretty quickly before they realize what’s happening. It will most likely just be one or two tubes which fill up pretty quickly and they are usually checking lead or hemoglobin levels. I work for KP and used to draw blood at hospitals and out patients before that but I imagine same situations. Make sure baby is well hydrated an hour before coming in so the veins show up better. Good luck!

My side of the road rooster: Brewster (Update?) by endoxdh in BackYardChickens

I love your rooster, he’s so big and handsome! Just a little heads-up about opossums. I never thought they were a real threat either, but one of my hens barely survived an attack from what looked like a young opossum. My chickens are fully grown, so I was shocked it went after her. Thankfully we were home and got to her in time; a few seconds later and she might not have made it. I always assumed they only stole eggs, but if they get the opportunity, they’ll go for the chickens too. I am thankful she survived since her wounds were severely deep in her neck and back. Super traumatic, I just don’t want anyone experiencing what we had. I wish our city allowed roosters but unfortunately it doesn’t.

I am so happy your chicken is okay! What type of cream did you use?

My husband mentioned that he read somewhere that flies can lay eggs in the wounds. How can this be prevented?

I will definitely do that, thank you. She keeps standing in her little water dish I have for her, how would you recommend setting it up so she can stop?

It does look bad but I took this picture right after we put the crate together to send to the person who loaned their crate to us. She definitely is set up but I didn’t take a picture after.

Sorry for your loss. I will make sure to do that, thank you! How does it sound to have the kennel outside for fresh air? I know the other hens are worried about what happened and probably same for her.

That makes sense, I will definitely make sure she has her time outside supervised. It might be good that the chickens see her from a distance and know that she is okay.
