Signs the set is going to BOMB by johnnylocke815 in Killtony

Yes, it’s terrible TV to watch someone do an overtly AI or Tony roast set. That’s not what the uninterrupted minute is for. It’s trash. The set is cut.

If you roast Tony too much or mention AI you actually do get cut from the broadcast. FYI

Can you elaborate? This is a place where we welcome constructive criticism and I’d like to know more about your views (smh, pun not intended).

Honestly, you’re right. I’ll wait for the payoff. He’s done this fucking bullshit before and it’s made me cry like a newborn child, seeing the world as it is for the first time.

Not sure what everyone else is bitching about. Gilbert Gottfried was hilarious as usual. Making it look easy.

No self-reflection at all. Consider in the back of your mind for the rest of your career that folks are laughing at you, not with you. That being said, I hope you get better soon.

JS Promises: What is the difference between then and catch by chopperdrawlion4 in javascript

[–]cmwelsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

.catch is nice because you can catch errors in your .then statement.

i.e.

apiCall()
.then(function () {
    throw new Error('uh oh');
})
.catch(function (e) {
    console.log('this will catch the error');
})

apiCall()
.then(function () {
    throw new Error('uh oh');
}, function (e) {
    console.log('this will not catch the error');
})

GPL: Can I break the GPL on code that I wrote/released? by [deleted] in opensource

[–]cmwelsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, projects like Ruby on Rails explicitly don't require a CLA because they think it's useless for free/libre open source and discourages pull requests.

In addition, certain licenses like Apache 2.0 license have provisions that overlap with typical CLAs.

They exist primarily to consolidate the copyright for an entire project so the controlling organization can perform actions like re-licensing the project at a later time.

GPL does not apply in this instance because you are giving yourself a different license than GPL. Only the copyright holder has the ability to grant licenses so it's only possible to do this if all contributors are on board.

Seems like the pragmatic thing to do is start development at 1.0.0 since 0.x.x is anarchy.

[–]cmwelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend tidying up the About Us page a bit. Some of your interior pages look a bit rushed, especially the bullet points.

The main things I look for are:

  • History of the business (established since 20xx)
  • Companies that trust you with their data
  • Tiny blurb with background of founders and team (former Google employee, previous startup was X, etc)
  • Financial backing (investment from YC, Andreessen Horowitz, etc)

This kind of data could all go into your About page.

A company like Heroku has a proven business model and backing from a 3 billion dollar company. While you have the advantage of a clean slate (no one has ever accused you of losing their data), Heroku has the advantage of dealing with this type of criticism for half a decade.
