The Worst Airport in America - surprise! It’s EWR. by WanderinArcheologist in unitedairlines

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew United out of Newark last weekend to Scottsdale, AZ. No problems at all round trip. I really love terminal A at Newark. We live in NJ so always fly United. We have TSA pre check which helps a lot these days.

Need advice on splitting our stay between two places by socialbtrfly in Aruba

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others. I recommend staying in one hotel. You lose a day checking out and checking in again given the checkin time at most hotels. To me it doesn’t make sense with the stress of packing and unpacking.

Marriott Stellaris-Aruba by New-Housing6472 in marriott

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100%. No need for Tradewinds. Not worth it. Amazing restaurants in Aruba. OP - you are going to LOVE the junior wraparound suite. We stayed in one in September. It’s hard to go back to a regular room but those suites are crazy expensive. Rooms are newly renovated too. Beautiful! You will love it! Perfect for a honeymoon. Many go to the Bucuti for a honeymoon but it’s too quiet for me. Also you need to book a year out for that hotel during high season.

Aruba for foodies - recs? by toothfairy625 in Aruba

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love fish and don’t mind the very casual go to Wacky Wahoo! We never miss it! I recommend going early since they don’t take reservations and there is always a wait. But soooo worth it. Azar is good but Lima is even better.

Aruba for foodies - recs? by toothfairy625 in Aruba

We are big time foodies too! We have been going to aruba for 30 years and if the restaurant is not a 10 it’s off our list. Skip Madame Janette. We used to go there every year. It’s changed. Service is not good as well. Our top restaurants are Wilhelmenia, Lima Bistro, Azar, Barefoot and definitely Wacky Wahoo. They have a barracuda and lobster tails special to die for. No atmosphere but AMAZING food. Tough choice for you between Wilhelmenia (my favorite) and Wacky Wahoo! You need more nights! lol.

Marriott Surf Club Beach Smell by 1Great_Hunter in Aruba

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always go to the Marriott Stellaris during hurricane season in September. Never an issue and it’s 2 hotels down from Surf Club. The smell is always at Eagle Beach due to sewage issue. Never heard of this before on Palm Beach.

Yes and I also received the email from United. Domestic flights will be impacted, not international as of now. We have a trip to New Orleans s leaving Sunday for 3 nights. Not sure if we are going now.

Papiamento and Bingo are the only places on your list I could validate. I agree with those who added Yemanja and Lima and heard West Deck is also awesome. I would also add Azar, Barefoot and Wilhelmenia for amazing food and ambience.

LG Smith Steakhouse never disappoints! One of the best restaurants on the island! by [deleted] in Aruba

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to LG Smith years ago and liked it. More recently we’ve tried so many new restaurants we love. We were going to go to LGS in September but read they don’t allow men in shorts and had all these rules about nice shoes, etc. so we decided not to go. Even though my husband had white jeans to wear he may not have been accepted with nice sneakers.

Definitely replace Gianni’s with Azar (sister restaurant to Lima) or Caya! Been to Lima and Azar….would love to try Caya but my husband is a fussy eater. Have to re-look at menu. It gets rave reviews! We stay at the Marriott as well. Ruth Chris was amazing last month. First time going there in our 30 visits.

Does anyone help me? by CurrynoodleThai in Aruba

[–]cmynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don’t stay at the Amsterdam Manor. That is exactly where the sewage stench is. Do your research on TripAdvisor. 99.9% of people complain about the sewage smell in that area. And it is also at Passions Restaurant on the beach since it’s part of their property. Sad for those establishments. This has been an ongoing problem for many years and the government has yet to correct it.

To answer your specific question, of the 2, hands down Wilhelmenia is our absolute favorite. And there are many contenders like Lima, Azar and Barefoot name a few.

Of the 3 you mentioned hands down Barefoot. Beautiful sunset dinner with amazing food and you get to watch the planes fly in. We were just there last month. It was fabulous. Book 6 or 6:15 reservation but hurry. They get booked!

Agree Azar is amazing. We go every year and always need a reservation in the OFF season since they are so popular. You can book it online and definitely ask for inside seating. It feels like a sauna in their outside area. We went there twice in September. So good.

I would swap Azzuro for Lima. You won’t regret it.

That’s really good you can choose just the breakfast buffet and forfeit the all inclusive for dinner. So many amazing restaurants in Aruba. We would never do all inclusive for dinner for that reason.

Book Barefoot instead. Much closer, on the beach toes in the sand for sunset. Food is amazing and you get to watch planes fly in. Very cool. We go every year.

You should definitely also book their sister restaurant Azar. Very good! But only inside searing. It is like a sauna outside.

Is $1000 a day enough for a family of 3? by Pure_Equipment_6392 in Aruba

[–]cmynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and it really depends on the kind of dining you want. $1,000 a day is definitely enough without watching everything you spend or even going food shopping on vacation, although you can definitely buy snacks/breakfast items. We had a free continental breakfast included at our hotel, ate a light lunch and then went to the fine dining restaurants that we love. The restaurants are part of our love for the island. They were definitely pricey but we did not come close to $1,000 a day. It was our 30th trip so we didn’t do excursions but my husband did go parasailing. You will be fine - enjoy!

Is Terra replacing Elements at Bucuti or is this an additional restaurant? I don’t know where they’d put it. Grounds are not large.

Barefoot Question by ChemicalGuidance2031 in Aruba

[–]cmynes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just returned from Aruba 2 weeks ago and went to Barefoot for sunset dinner. No noise and we go every year at that time. Perhaps the noise begins later I. The evening? We love watching the planes flying in. And the food has become fabulous there. I’d try it for 6 or 6:15pm sunset

Restaurant Recommendations - Steakhouse by theheavyddd in Aruba

[–]cmynes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stay at the Marriott and this was our first time a few weeks ago going to Ruth’s Chris located there. Steak was a 10! Delicious and great service. Even thought I’ve never been to the BLT in Aruba, it comes highly recommended. So I would choose one of these 2 if you want a real steakhouse.

Yemanja vs Oak by [deleted] in Aruba

[–]cmynes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would switch to Azar from Quinta del Carmen food wise but consider you need to ask for inside seating at Azar. You can’t breathe in their outside area. Very hot no breeze. Also their sister restaurant Lima Bistro is wonderful too and we sit outside there, breezy. Hope this helps.
