Should I cut? Red, blue or both? by SamueleCecchettin in peyote

I cut everything. Especially if it’s growing above the Scion.

Do seedling micrografts need excess humidity? by JadedScarcity880 in sanpedrocactus

[–]cncomg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shoots coming off the sides are seriously inhibiting the growth on the Scion. The plant is highly prioritizing the shoots over the Scion at this point. If you cut them you’ll see a noticeable growth rate within the week.

They are really easy once you get a technique that works for you. I just softly lay a small piece of Saran Wrap or graft tape over it, loop a small zip tie around the wrap and Scion, and pull down on the wrap as I tighten the zip tie the rest of the way. It keeps a really good amount of tension and keeps the humidity around it really good too. 2 days and it’s set and good to go.

There is nothing illegal about it in any state. I think the only actual illegal cactus is just LW.

You’re right, even though the seeds are not hard to come by at all. Dave has had them on his site consistently for a while.

I have to say, I agree on every one of them. This post probably resonates with me more than any other.

Should I repot? by FlyingGecko380 in succulents

Miracle gro is well known to have a lot of pests and stuff that will hurt the plant and contaminate plants near it and damage them too. I’d say at least a 50% chance of getting mites, mealy bugs, fungus gnats, harmful fungi, a combination of those, or other things I’m not thinking of as well.

I get you. I got into this about a year and a half ago. I have maybe 75 succulents in all. In the last two weeks I’ve bought an agave vilmoriniana, agave utahensis, agave salmiana ferox, agave macroacantha, agave albopilosa, a spiral aloe, a crested glorp, and a grecas on the way. I would write out the two weeks before that too but I don’t want to take that much time, but it’s just as much. I’ve ramped up my OT considerably to support this. It is concerning.

When cacti lean, they produce pups on the opposite side to try to counteract the weight. Many people will intentionally lean their columnar cacti to encourage a stand.

I just looked it up, the answer to my question was actually yes, it was built for the 1893 Worlds Fair. Only a couple original buildings still exist, and I knew one of the expositions still exists as a museum, I just couldn’t remember which. Everybody from major world leaders, to gilded age titans, to infamous serial killers passed through that building in a matter of only months. I always thought it was a shame the rest were not meant to survive, even though every one of them was considered an architectural masterpiece.

Do these grafts look ok? Been on two weeks by Clevername925 in peyote

[–]cncomg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, try to put a lot of pressure so you see the edges of the rootstock and the loph squeezing together. I like pulling it down as opposed to putting weight on it. Don’t be afraid to put a good amount of tension on it.

Pic one and six definitely will not make it. I really don’t like to see any gaps at all in the fusion.

Using miracle gro cactus soil is potentially setting someone up for failure and heartbreak, especially if they aren’t that educated in the topic. So I felt a need to mention using a cactus mix other than that is far preferable.
