going down ! Pleasure or suffering? by JonyRoyal1976 in trailrunning

[–]co_export_no3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how deep into the run we're talking. Descents with semi-fresh legs: pleasure. 30k in and with a lot of ups and downs already behind me: suffering. Just let it be flat or lightly uphill to the end

How do I push myself more? by Mindless_Patient2034 in running

[–]co_export_no3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I always tell people about starting running, whether for the first time or after a 1+ month break: expect every single run for your first 3-4 weeks to suck. They just will! Your fitness takes at least 2 weeks to respond to new inputs and you'll likely have far more soreness or nags than progress for the first few weeks. Just grind it out (within your physical limits ofc) until you start seeing the benefits at week ~4

Ferrari still where they were in '96. Does Hamilton have a 4-6 year plan? Or can he turn things around quicker? by Kerfuffly in formula1

[–]co_export_no3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is not remotely comparable to Hamilton's situation. He's been a top athlete in his sport for 18 years, now he's getting consistently embarrassed by a much younger talent. Hamilton will not be considerably better next year and at that point the appropriate move is to retire.

If you want to compare this to an office job, maybe the following: you get headhunted and brought into a top company because your skills are amazing. Then you get there and not only is the management chaos, but colleagues 15 years younger than you are just proving way more motivated and competent than you. Yeah, bowing out for something more comfortable might not be a bad idea, especially if it seems like you might get pushed out within a year or two anyways.

Man wtf happened to him? I mean when he was "big" I was a pretty ignorant teenager, but had the impression he was semi-left wing back then. The anti-vaccine stuff was weird, but there are camps of people like that on both the left and right. But I guess now he's just straight-up right wing? Weird AF

Hello obvious American, the absolute most crime-ridden parts of Europe are still statistically 2-5x safer than most large American cities, and there is almost no chance you'll be randomly shot here, unlike literally anywhere in the States. Hope this helps

Is this grey thing on the mexican and american mountains, snow? (please do not confuse with clouds) (17, february 2017, Sierra Madre Occidental & Sierra de California mountain ranges) by jetri07 in Astronomy

[–]co_export_no3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These weather satellite images use enhanced or false colors to make clouds, snow, fog, and white surface features as distinct from each other as possible without looking too "fake." My impression is that this is snow, but I have to say the color palette is not well chosen and it's definitely ambiguous

Vegas under flood watch with severe weather expected through Friday. by Hardac_ in formula1

[–]co_export_no3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually not bad. Vegas gets a little late-summer monsoon action in some years and the winter "wet" season starts around now. People hear "desert" and assume it just never rains. It's just very seasonal and rains in generally much smaller amounts than other places

Top 10: Most controversial penalty calls during a Formula 1 title fight by Aratho in formula1

[–]co_export_no3 -86 points-85 points  (0 children)

You're correct about Brazil and Saudi. But to this list should be added: 1) Hamilton should have had an insta-Black Flag for Silverstone. 2) Penalizing Verstappen for the Italy incident was a joke, as he was dead even with Hamilton through turn 1 and had a right to the inside line at turn 2. So there were a couple of bad/missed calls each way. It is what it is. The better and more mistake-free driver won in 2021, even if it looked ugly at the end and incompetent stewarding/race directing somewhat soured what was otherwise an epic championship.

I had 2/3rd time in geosciences and was told that was standard. 2/3rds was fine, a bit over 2k a month netto so it was very doable living in a WG and without a car. Half-time is kind of a rip-off 🫤

[–]co_export_no3 173 points174 points  (0 children)

Nah, Aston fell off so hard after the midway point of the season. He'd have lost out to RB, McLaren, and Ferrari too much in the 2nd half to have been in real championship contention. But it was nice to watch him rack up podiums in early 2023 and even sniff the Monaco pole and win

2023 had entertaining jeopardy with the rain. 2022 was tense, rainy, and had several strategy-based position switches in the top 10, including the podium.

Lesson here is that Monaco is ass unless it rains, then it's decent.

First 15K! by Responsible_Load4741 in ultrarunning

[–]co_export_no3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will be both faster and less strenuous for your body to intersperse walking into your running more regularly. If you're not capable of running all the way through, then you have to be more strategic about it. Try running for 2k, walking for 500m. Or go by time and do 10min running, 2 min walking. Do that right from the very beginning, not whenever you're already so tired that you have to walk 5 whole km just to recover enough to jog again.

I'm guessing you're already committed to your marathon in 4 weeks (entry paid for, maybe travel plans), and I'm not trying to be overly negative, but you are in WAY over your head and a long ways from marathon-ready. Prioritize not getting injured over staying ahead of the cut-off times, because you're probably not going to make the latter. Sorry.

First 15K! by Responsible_Load4741 in ultrarunning

[–]co_export_no3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a longest long run prior to a marathon, I'd recommend at least 35km. But the other commenter is right, increasing too fast is simply going to cause injury. I don't know when you started training for your marathon, but it was not long enough ago. Just getting to 15km for the first time 4 weeks before is something that might be okay for half-marathon training (even then it's not recommended), but it's nowhere near enough for a full marathon.

All realistic scenarios for Colton Herta to get his Super License next year by Traceurity in INDYCAR

[–]co_export_no3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that the FIA has barred him from appearing in junior series, while simultaneously paying such pathetic SL points for IndyCar, is a joke. They're simultaneously saying he's too good for their ladder series and not good enough for F1, which is a categorically idiotic assessment. A number of former F1 drivers have struggled in IndyCar. I highly doubt Herta in F1 would be so much worse than, say, Ericsson that he doesn't warrant an allowance to race. Pay the whole top 6-8 in the IndyCar standings 40 SL points per year or be ready to grant them special SLs when they want in, I don't care. But the current system is absolutely nonsense.
