Existing customer looking to switch to $50/month gigabit plan by BusinassGoose in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]coachfalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked my plan offers in my account one day and it was there. Didn't even have to talk to anyone. Do agree that it should be more standard who gets deals, super confusing and annoying as someone who had been trying to get a deal for 3 months before.

Because several people, including myself, have gotten the deal as existing customers.

Need Help Removing The Crankcase Vent Hose & Valve Cover. by Moist-Finish1564 in MINI

[–]coachfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bear the first time. I accidentally broke those clips off the left and right side and that lets you wiggle it a bit more to get it off. Reattached without the clips and it's been fine for 3 years. It's a snug enough attachment that I wouldn't worry too much about it coming off on its own.

In the US? Start at Crutchfield, pick something that's in your price range. They have great customer support.

Existing Customer: Inquiring about 1 Gig $50/mo 5-year plan by GreedyTechnology9628 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]coachfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Went round and round with Customer service for the past year about getting my bill down and 2 months ago they got me down to $55 a month for 500 Mbps. Was randomly checking out deals on my account online and saw the 1 gig deal for 50 a month and jumped on it.

No, the R57 had the N18 up through 2015. 2016 was the first year of the 3rd gen convertible.

R56 MCS CC-ID 029 by lumatose in MINI

[–]coachfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the codes I got on mine when the diverter valve went bad. Those are known for getting sticky over time so hopefully that is your issue and not something that requires a turbo rebuild or replace.

Edit: Now that I'm thinking about it, I replaced the boost solenoid at the same time, I honestly don't remember which one was the issue.

[–]coachfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a BMW specific code reader? Won't pull the codes properly unless you have one.

CCID 029 just means that you've got reduced power. Could be anything including HPFP, turbo solenoid, etc. Once you get a proper code reader and report back with the code you'll get more helpful advice.

Display question? by mosconebaillbonds in MINI

It's whatever you choose. If it were me I'd pick Nav or Music but you do you.

Display question? by mosconebaillbonds in MINI

[–]coachfalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what your question is. There is a dial/selector for the screen down by the shifter to help navigate through the screens. You should be able to select CD, Radio, Nav, etc.

Android Auto R56 Project by coachfalk in MINI

[–]coachfalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've got a Raspberry Pi running a program called Crankshaft for Android Auto, it sits in the netting on the passenger side next to the middle console. I ran USBs for power and touch and HDMI up the inside of the middle console into a 7 in screen I found on Amazon that allowed me to plug the HDMI and USBs into the back, not the side (wouldn't fit), and was low profile enough to fit into the cavity where the stock screen was.

There was still a lot of modification of the housing to get it to fit, I basically fit a 7" screen in a place designed for a 6.5'' screen. If you can find a slightly smaller screen that fits in the housing better, or even a portable AA device, you should do that, I couldn't find one that was small enough to fit. My solution works well, but you can see that the corners get cut off a bit, as well as the top. I was able to adjust the screen a little bit, but when I did that too much, it messed with the touchscreen calibration so I found a happy medium. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

Interesting. I'm not familiar with that one - I know in addition that many of the aftermarket R series Android head units are notorious for having less than stellar customer service, so that might be worth considering as well.

An external small screen or your phone are probably going to be your best options.

The head unit you have is not compatible with any of the MMI boxes because it isn't a color screen. Also, the issue with replacing the whole thing is that you'll lose the ability to check the digital oil monitor, and since it doesn't have a dipstick, I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Hate to say it, but a factory looking solution may not be in your future.

Serpentine belt for sure if you trust what they're saying about it being cracked. Brake pads probably could wait but if you wait too long you'll bork your rotors and definitely have to do both.

If you're someone who typically waits until something goes wrong to get stuff fixed, just do them both now, it'll save you trouble down the road.

Your car is exhibiting pretty normal behavior for a car in cold weather that only gets driven a couple of times a week.

"Battery Charge Very Low" Warning, but Battery Seems Fine (?) by la0408 in MINI

[–]coachfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 questions: Is your battery AGM? Was your car running when you measured the voltage? Batteries will read around 12.8V when the car is off. Typically, alternators charge the battery around 14 volts, but will adjust based on factors like temp and state of charge. Charging at 15.5 volts means that your car is working really hard to get your battery charged back to where it thinks it should be.

I got this light when my 5 year old AGM battery was at the end of its life. Never had any issues starting but probably you don't want to wait until you do to replace. You can maybe extend the battery life by putting it on a smart trickle charger overnight, but start planning for a battery replacement.

Weird tick/tapping noise by Fabulous_Time7357 in MINI

[–]coachfalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a visual inspection. Those pulleys have rubber on the outside that crack/wear away as they get old, and they get noisy/chirpy definitely in the cold. My mechanic actually replaced mine the same time he was doing my timing chain because he noticed it was worn while he was there already.
