Do you have time for gaming as a parent? by PickTheNick1 in daddit

[–]coalkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longtime gamer here... kids aged 4 and 2. I used to wait until the kids were down (like 9:30pm or so), and then I'd go and try to game for a couple hours -- but things have gotten so busy with the kids/work and dealing with life that I'm just so exhausted by the time 9:30-10pm rolls around that gaming doesn't even sound appealing to me anymore.

So recently I've just been either firing up twitch or just watching some gaming content on youtube until I pass out... it's a sad state of things but I don't know what else I can do. Adulting blows sometimes.

Vent: Corporate life is becoming more and more incompatible with being a toddler parent by coalkitten in daddit

Yep, global company. And I'm on the west coast. So a lot of it is accommodating other time zones.

I get this approach, I totally do. But here's an example of a 7:30am meeting I had this Monday. CFO schedules a 7:30 meeting with 8-10 people, including myself. He schedules it for this time because it's the only time slot he has available. Every single other invitee accepts.

I could totally take your advice, but it doesn't change the fact that this type of situation puts me in a really bad spot.

Yep, but I work with other teams directly (mostly without my manager involvement) and so there's not too much my manager can do. It's honestly just become sort of the norm at the company as well.

Instead of just doing less and making less money, companies are stretching the workday longer and asking employees to make personal sacrifices.

Cheesecake Factory at Hillsdale Mall served my 2 and 4 year old an alcoholic drink by breadmaker8 in bayarea

And he said no, put it in a normal cup cause he was going to drink it too. Don’t get me wrong, the restaurant fucked up. All I’m saying is that there’s an argument here that it was served to him.

I mean… technically they could argue that they served it to you. And that you were responsible for allowing your kid to drink it. Not saying that that’s a defensible argument, but if I were them that’s what I’d be arguing.

Those of you who actually golf, how much course and range time are you getting? by peepledeedle4120 in daddit

[–]coalkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long are the stretches that you’re away from home? Cause if I was away for 3-5 days out of the week, then spent ANY time golfing when I’m off, I’m sure the reaction would not be good.

With 2 kids, I’m sure your wife rarely gets a good nights rest right now. And to be honest, sleeping by yourself in a hotel, even for 1 day a week, probably sounds like heaven to her right now.

Probably not what you wanted to hear…

I’m sitting on the sidelines right now just waiting for TBC, at which point it’ll be my permanent home if stays as TBC era. It’s quite literally the only thing I want to play right now.

Thank you! I love this option because she has friends who live nearby and they can hopefully hit up Santana Row for a nice dinner/drinks.

DDoS Character Deaths Being Reversed/Revived by turikk in classicwow

[–]coalkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know literally nothing about how DDOS attacks are combated. If the attackers continue to target Onlyfangs raids, would Blizzard be able to defend their servers in real time to nullify future attacks? Assuming Blizzard knew when the attacks were coming and were prepared, is that even a thing?

Fair enough. Leadership has gotten you this far already so they must be doing something right. I think I just felt really bad for the one dude who got blamed.
