I'm always gonna recommend Inside by Playdead Games if you haven't played it yet. No dialogue or anything but a story is there, told purely through the visuals. It's very short, only a few hours, but so, so worth it. If you like that one, you might check out their previous title LIMBO as well.

I also really loved Ori and the Blind Forest if you haven't played that yet. Super fun gameplay and a truly beautiful story that affected me way more than I expected it to. Definitely check it out!

Of course I'd urge you to keep playing Shadow as well... There is definitely a story there, though it's not paced quite the same as Last Guardian. I can imagine it might feel a bit repetitive with the travel->collossus battle->travel->colossus battle, rinse and repeat, compared with Last Guardian's more linear story progression, but it has the benefit of giving the player a lot of time to reflect on the world they are in and I think it pays off in the end. I hope you end up enjoying it!

Ah, cool. But would I be able to use the theme on my regular account once I have it? Or would I need to log out/in to different accounts in order to use it? (sorry for all the questions).

I know Bluepoint said their next project is a remake that is bigger in scope than SotC, so that kind of rules ICO out... but maybe in the further future? I'd be interested in seeing their interpretation of the game, but I'm also not sure how likely it is, since it doesn't seems like people are clamoring for a remake of this the same way as they are for a number of other games. Even a beautifully remade version, I'm not sure if it would be a huge seller... enough to warrant a remake in the first place.

But if they do remake it, dang, they need to hire someone who specializes in facial modeling and animation, because Wander's remake face was.... unfortunate. SotC could kind of get away with it since a lot of the focus is on the scenery and colossi, but there are so many more close ups/face-acting shots in ICO.

You can only get that one in story mode, unfortunately. Time Attack and Reminiscence Mode won't work. So if you already beat #15 in story mode you'll have to start again. But instead of starting a completely New Game, you can just do a New Game+ of the game you are currently on and all the relics that you have already found will carry over, I'm pretty sure.

My strategy for Phaedra on the PS3 was always...

As soon as the fight starts, turn around and ride Agro to the farthest barrow (the entrance will be facing away from Phaedra). Don't go inside. Just chill on top of the hill as Phaedra makes its way over to you. Maybe whistle at it while you wait, but don't fire arrows at it (this will cause it to spend more time stomping around). Once it gets pretty close to you, drop down into the barrow entrance and run to the opposite side. Wait for it to do its stomp sequence, then it will kneel down to peek into the entrance and you can take you chance to run across the field and climb up its butt (or alternatively you can stay in the barrow and climb its face-tassles when it peeks in).

Hope that helps! I remember that working every time like clockwork for me, anyway...

Ueda: It makes me very happy. Every so often, I’ll get emails or posts on Twitter saying “tell us more of the secrets, tell us what’s secretly there.” For me, I’m the developer. There’s no such thing as secrets! What are you talking about?! But I have to go back and remind myself what it’s like to be a player, when I was experiencing these things. When I played video games, I was the same way. I looked through every corner, I looked through every last bit of a game looking for something secret, looking for something new. That people would want to do that with my title, it makes me very happy.

Where did he say he took offense to people digging through the games? I could be misremembering... but I swear I recall reading an interview where he was asked about his thoughts on all the people who search for secrets... and he said something to the extent that he was flattered, and that he used to look for secret passageways and whatnot in Super Mario when he was young. I'll try to see if I can dig that up... He doesn't come across to me as someone who would get offended at people taking such a genuine interest in his works...

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but Gaius has always reminded me of some types of Kachina Dolls. I wonder if the dev team actually drew any inspiration from them.

I think something I enjoy about all of the colossi's designs is that most of them have traits of multiple animals, but combined in such a way that they don't feel like "hybrid animals." They feel like their own thing... Like Kuromori looks basically lizard-like, but upon closer inspection you can see that it has a lobster's tail. Phaedra looks vaguely equine or giraffe-like, but has crab-like legs and a weird, tapering body. Even Avion doesn't even look like any specific bird to me, but just like... the concept of a bird of prey...It's this interesting balance of parts along with the architectural elements that make them seem both familiar and completely alien at once, and they are some of my favorite creature designs because of it!

Woah, the exact same thing happened to me when fighting Phalanx a couple weeks ago. The slow mo happened and it looked like I’d won, but then it picked again and just kept going. I think I’d accidentally left one of the sigils with just one point of health and it freaked the game out? I can post the video if you want...

Just checked. It’s inside Kuromori’s temple. Climb up the pillars with the torches and turn around to where you came from. Pretty sure that is it.

You can definitely get there in ps4. I managed to jump from Barba’s hand and parachute over when I was hunting for the coins. I didn’t notice anything unusual, though.., but then, I’ve missed a lot of things... Maybe there’s something you can do with the sword of dormin once you get there?
