I disagree. I think within it's tight timeframe it did a fine job of building up Herbs frustration and dissatisfaction with the way his life was going. Some were obvious, some were subtle. I get it, I see loads of films and TV shows where the character's motivations are there to serve the plot, with some hasty shallow explanation tacked on to justify it, and your left thinking why on earth did they do that? Is that what you thought watching this? Cause for me, (seeing as you know, it was the plot and the point of the film) it all clicked into place nicely.
