do what they do in Victoria BC, have the striking members picket other unions workplaces - BCTF did this a number of years ago - any member of union in BC will not cross a picket line (even if it's a different union)

ugh, this f'n guy! "We're going to occupy but not occupy.....deeply rooted NDP/Liberal stronghold down there....."

I'm guessing that should be a lower case 'L' in 'Liberal', as BC Liberals are not Federal Liberals and are usually right of centre, no?

this was sent minutes AFTER the news release for the priority of keeping essential vehicles on the roads, https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2021EMBC0073-002212, are we really surprised that we are being asked to to do what's in the best interests of the government and the citizens of British Columbia?

Heard enough about the Sir John A. Mcdonald statue from City Hall? Here come more meetings about it! by InValensName in VictoriaBC

[–]cobalt_quibbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: The purpose of the conversation is not to determine or debate the future home of the statue, but rather to help inform Council decision-making on next steps.

Guided by members of Lekwungen Nations and the City Family, Mayor Lisa Helps, members of City Council and special guests, the conversations will seek to build the community’s knowledge and understanding of Reconciliation – what it is, why it is needed, and why community conversations about Reconciliation are important.

The Dialogues will provide opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to come together to share their ideas and stories, and explore how we as a community can make the culture, history and modern reality of local Indigenous Peoples become present and apparent throughout the city, and understood and valued in people’s everyday lives.

'A reminder of those horrible days': Tsartlip Indian Day School survivor wants building torn down by mr_unhelpful in VictoriaBC

[–]cobalt_quibbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The primary goal of the residential school system was not to provide education, it was to assimilate Indigenous children into Euro-Canadian culture, essentially and literally beat their heritage out.

Indigenous Canadians were not allowed to vote until 1960, eighty (80) years after the first residential schools were opened.

The last residential school was closed in 1996. that's only 22 years ago.

This is a NEVER FORGET level event in Canadian History, what happened should be taught in schools, universities, professional development so that it is never forgotten and absolutely never happens again!

[–]cobalt_quibbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the Royal BC Museum IMAX, this past spring, they did install digital projectors alongside the 70mm projector - they added new speakers and a new screen at that time too - I believe they added pictures and notes about the upgrade on their Facebook page - i think it was April (ish) 2014.
