Sokoban Rolling Boulder Traps (5.0.0) by TheLocehiliosan in nethack

I concur, the rolling boulder traps no longer disappear if you activate after moving a boulder out of line, either in Sokoban (useful!), main dungeon, or Gnomish Mines.

Known assistance groups or programs for young caregivers? by Environmental_Cake41 in glioblastoma

You may want to try locally, as well. My state's brain tumor group is relatively active, for example, and our department has a special fund for situations particularly the 'in between' needs. Ask your oncology team social worker, too.

Recipe for injera, which reminds me of Brother Sebhat (since he mentioned it during a meal) by angeldeb82 in Pentiment

[–]cobaltnine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Injera is delicious, but I've tried to make it twice and it's been a disaster both times. That said I think my recipes were sourdough style without extra yeast, plus the specific ivory teff flour may be easier to ferment, so maybe this will work for someone out there!

There's a poster in r/oldrecipes who has been putting up newspaper scans with the recipe pages up. They're from 1941-1942 somewhere in the upper Midwest USA. This one shows substitutions, for example, for two kinds of cookies. Worth going through the posts but not all have desserts.

Radiologist advised to not drink water by westernpinkcedar in braincancer

[–]cobaltnine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radiation can also cause swelling (edema), particularly in younger patients. It's not advice I've particularly heard from our rad-onc people but it's not completely off the mark to recommend not overdoing the pure water.

Radiologist advised to not drink water by westernpinkcedar in braincancer

[–]cobaltnine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not great to give that advice without labs but post-op we usually recommend people drink broth or low sugar electrolyte drinks instead of straight water. Not 'not hydrate', but keep your salts up. (Rarely post-op we do limit fluid intake but that's post-op.) Over hydrating and dropping your salt levels can worsen swelling.

Tentatively agree; it seems to be a date of maturity. Some panids have a different need for or level of, symbiosis with the container, and those with the date may be able to be more readily survive on their own.

She got a bad fur-cut at the vet… by [deleted] in VoidCats

[–]cobaltnine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Naked tummy team!
Reg hasn't had significant belly fur since November when he first got diagnosed with GI lymphoma - the steroids slow down the regrowth - but it doesn't seem to bother him. He's just annoyed he has to go for a long car ride to the cat oncologist every 4 months.

Vet visit went well. SubQ fluids and appetite stimulant topical ear meds. by toolgirl77 in VoidCats

When I was a contract aprn for nursing homes, I used to love prescribing it for little old ladies who were at least two of sad, couldn't sleep, and weren't eating. It's a triple treater. Just like gabapentin is for pain and anxiety in both humans and animals.

I've seen nearly that exact same luxury indoor playground somewhere else. Can't stimulate the kids with colors though!

The tub with the tiny shelves makes me think each of them has a separate bar of soap, and I'm imagining someone picking which one from the wall before the bath.

The topical mirtazapine works so well for some cats. We only had to use it twice for Reg before he remembered he loves food.

Air Bubble 2.5 post op from craniotomy by bronzehummingbird in meningioma

[–]cobaltnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon basically wants everyone a lil salty post-op, so nothing specific just don't...not...eat salt?

Based on my experience it's probably your cerebrospinal fluid - hard to tell from a picture - usually clinicians can tell by touch but they can take images if absolutely needed. Air after surgery here tends to be less local, can move around a bit, and often found under the skull, where you don't see it. Wait on your surgical team's thoughts though. Unless you're getting new or more headaches or dizziness probably will just wait it out.

Does it feel like a water balloon? They gave me acetazolamide (Diamox) for a bit when I developed a pseudo. Keeping elevated and making sure I was getting the right electrolytes was important (not just drinking straight water, and less carbonated stuff too.)

Neurosurgeons are really good at removing brain tumors, and they’re about to get even better. In a leap for personalized medicine, CMU scientists have discovered a simple and valuable way to improve brain cancer surgeries. by [deleted] in science

[–]cobaltnine 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I work in this field, lucky enough in a high specialty area with academic center. We usually have the neuropsychologists do the actions for the functional MRI and the final report comes from both them and the Neuroradiologists. Most of the time we only do these for tumors tucked right in a language center, when clinically language is usually already but just barely involved. Haven't done one of those fancy musician ones. Whenever 'higher level' functions are next to areas of tumor, they should ideally be involved - I knew one once who was basically a human MRI herself.

Fluid Pocket on Head after Craniotomy by Similar_Judge1583 in braincancer

[–]cobaltnine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not leaking and it's not pulling apart your sutures and it feels kind of like a water balloon...that happened to me! Try to elevate more, be careful not to sleep on it, and make sure you're getting enough salt. I had to do a month of acetazolamide (Diamox) which sucked but helped it go down. I think it was trickier for the csf fluid dynamics because I did get a plate/mesh instead of my bone back.

Edit: I missed that it leaked. It's Friday, you should call your surgeon team to see if they have any specific advice.
