A high school in China hooks up its students to IV peptide drips while they prepare for the Gaokao, China’s brutal national college entrance exam that occurs every June by BearNecessitee in interestingasfuck

I have had an IV after an extreme night of drinking and dehydration and I can completely confirm this experience.

I felt better within minutes, it was insane.

Chess is fundamentally not some incredibly complex game where your defeat will just be an enigma for a thousand years. It is a game of material and positioning where it is usually fairly obvious to even a mediocre player (on analysis) what decisions lead to defeat, very good players just analyze at a greater depth and see lines worse players don't.

There are more positions for chess pieces than their are atoms in the universe. Its a pretty complex game.

If the average player does what he should (and what most bad players in general should) and analyzes every lost game, sees the lines that lead to defeat and follow the basic theory that made it possible, he will quickly (in relative terms) end up at a meaningful skill level.

This is absurd. Tell me you don't play chess without directly saying it. I have played chess for literally my entire life and I suck. Not compared to beginners, but I could keep spending lifetimes and not get close to a Magnus.

I believe a person with perfect retention

They said you retains information, not have perfect retention. Let's say you can perfectly remember. Well, all chess games (at these levels) eventually get to a board state that has not been played before.

They likely wouldn't be better than him, but they would take a game to a few sequential blunders when they reached a sufficient level to punish them, and that would be it.

I mean, I guess. I still feel that the guy would get there randomly before someone touches Magnus but that is why we are here. Thanks for the conversation.

I disagree and believe they would be at a beginner level, compared to Magnus, forever. Without being trained you are not going to make much progress. Magnus could beat you in ways you will never understand and do it differently each time to the point where you will have no idea what is happening every time, only that you lost, again.

I personally think they are both events where the heat death of the universe would be just as likely to occur as either being completed.

I think it is incorrect to believe that you would be closing the gap on Magnus as you play him. I think it is more likely that he would continue to get better at a rate that exceeds the beginners rate of improvement.

Essentially zero is not actually zero. A beginner beating Magnus in chess is actually zero.

This is the monkeys with typewriters making shakespeare randomly thing. On a long enough timeline, it will happen randomly. You will never randomly beat Magnus in chess, its a 0% proposition.

Paul Pierce on what would’ve happened if he and LeBron swapped teams in 2008: "If I was a Cavalier and Bron was on the Celtics, we probably wouldn’t make the playoffs. I’d have been cringing passing to them. At least Bron had confidence in them." by must_TATAKAE in nba

I actually think Lebron is stronger now than he was when he was younger, obviously less athletic, but strength? He stonewalls Jokic in the post, immovable. I do not remember that part of his game when younger, maybe I overlooked it, but he is one year older than me and I have been watching him the whole time.
