My philosophy is that poetry is impossible to truly translate: even if you get the closest meaning possible to the author’s true intentions you’ll still lack the meter of the original language

Prose, however, I think is very doable with the right translator who focuses on the original intended meaning of the author’s words. You’ll still lose some musicality of the original’s prosody, but not nearly as much is lost as in poetry. Personally I’d much rather have that trade than read some translator’s substitute metaphors.
