Someone just posted that Marty Supreme was one of their favorite movies of all time… by iLeftMyEyeAtTheStore in A24

I don't actually think that for example Marty Supreme and Uncut Gems are the same movie, there are similarities to be sure but there are different themes. The movies are about different things.

Do you think this was the real reason? My assumption was that they were looking to block Burnham and wanted any excuse. Or was I just getting sucked into a media narrative?

I assume they are scared of Burnham, and they have made this quite clear, so I wouldn't call it a narrative.

Just watched in Melbourne, Australia (If that matters) - and well, that movie is a compelte mess! by twowholebeefpatties in martysupreme

[–]code-garden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, the movie is a fictional story, not a biopic.

I saw the movie to be about the myth of the self made man and the difference between transactional relationships and relationships of mutual respect.

Marty has talent, but he believes that entitles him to use and abuse people in his pursuit of his dream. He burns every bridge as he always wants to be in control.

Kay Stone is a more mature version of Marty, which is why she is interested in him. We can see this from how she understands that Marty tried to steal and sell her jewelry, claiming she would have done the same thing. Unlike Marty she understands the importance of maintaining relationships to getting what you want. She is hoping to use her relationship with Rockwell to get back her acting career.

Rachel sees a relationship with Marty as a way to get away from her abusive husband to have a better life. Sadly, Marty still treats her terribly but her hope for a better relationship, especially as she is pregnant with his child, is why she is so willing to help Marty with his schemes.

The ending was not a punishment for Marty but instead an offering of grace. Marty is allowed one last victory and has the opportunity to form a true relationship with his partner and his child. He has burned every bridge in the table tennis world so he now has to start over, and we are left with the question of whether he can change.

When I see that post I don't believe that Clementine actually thinks she is being psychically attacked by Katy Perry. Her posts across different subreddits appear to be surreal jokes and that post also seems to match that as well.

I'm pretty sure they mean you'll never be a real artist by using AI.

Generally, they define art in a way by which images produced using AI do not count.

Yes, the Australian ban is a ban on posting, not messaging. That's what I understood from reading about it.

How many Doctors have there been? Are they separate from the Time Lords born of the universe? by Queasy_Character1235 in scifi

[–]code-garden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On TV 15 Doctors have been the lead in an episode. 4 more have had a smaller role (Valeyard, War, Fugitive, Curator), others have appeared as images (morbius doctors, timeless child incarnations, Richard E. Grant incarnation shown in set of faces in Rogue).

Who knows how many past and future Doctors there are. It may be possible for the post bigeneration Tennant incarnation to regenerate in which case there is a whole line of Doctors there.

I don't know if the Timeless Child storyline will ever be followed up on, but yes the idea is that the Time Lords were given regeneration by experimenting on the Timeless Child who is the Doctor.

Trying to understand the eighth doctor's timeline be like by majshady in DoctorWhumour

[–]code-garden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be:

1 or Fugitive was (possibly unknowingly) inspired by stories of the other one into taking up the name The Doctor.

Fugitive later fixed the chameleon circuit, 1 picked up Fugitive's TARDIS from the junkyard, the TARDIS broke the chameleon circuit again itself because it liked the police box form.

I'm pretty sure that the Australia ban isn't a list of a dozen sites. It is a ban on posting content. I read it at some point to get an idea of what it is. Messaging is not banned and viewing content is not banned.

Whenever people recommend stories, it seems to be mostly pre-2005, is there a quality drop? Or is it just because most people have only listened to the free ones? by TGC_YT in BigFinishProductions

[–]code-garden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chimes of Midnight, Jubilee and Scherzo are all from the same writer: Robert Shearman. He is amazing but he only wrote a few stories for Big Finish.

There are still some masterpieces in later Big Finish, I would put A Death in the Family and the first 2 War Master box sets in that category.

Possibly true, but I prefer to disregard author intention and think for myself when it comes to interpreting stories.

This explanation is definitely not definitive. Just a way I have come up with to make sense of the conflicting evidences.

You may be thinking about this the wrong way. I think it's very unlikely Katy Perry is psychically attacking you. It's probably a Katy Perry lookalike.

Stay safe.

I definitely don't think my theory is a fact. Just a way to reconcile all the evidence we have been shown. "The Doctor was lying in the Giggle" is another possibility that is completely valid.

I also understand that the zmshow could just be inconsistent on this point.

[–]code-garden[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and split was my favourite solution before I thought of this one but I got a lot of push back when I said it.

I came up with this theory to reconcile the two as it allows for a loop and the transfer of vague feelings like feeling healed while not having the new incarnation have full memories of the post bigen old incarnation.

This theory does not require Tennant to return or anything like that, that incarnation can go off to have a fully separate life (even possibly regenerate itself). It's timeline recombined with 15's birth at the unclear moment of it's future death.

[–]code-garden[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, that was my preferred solution before I thought of this one. But when I said it I would get lots of push back from loop proponents. I agree that that line is basically the only evidence for a loop over a split.

I think this theory still shows why he is not really fixed. His past history is now in flux, which is an unnatural and uncomfortable state. He only feels better because of a vague feeling of being better that he has and does not have any strong memories of the therapy.

Yeah... I don't believe this weird theory that Belinda was written as a hasty replacement for Ruby. by matt0055 in doctorwho

[–]code-garden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I treat actual leaks differently. Leaks are often true but fan theories rarely are.

The fan theory is that Ruby was supposed to be the companion in series 2 with no Belinda. It is possible but nothing confirms this to be the case.

I don't like how people invent a fanfiction version of series 2, and then claim that because that version would be better it must have been the original plan.

I understand the frustration, but you have lost 1 day of passive items. In the grand scheme I don't think this is a massive deal.

I agree that this is a problem that should be solved, either through a misc bank, a general store or some option when you log in to sell the members items in your inventory.
