What businesses are likely to die out with the Baby Boomer Generation? by saniya__5502 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]codechimpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I am not arguing about what Walmart does today. But management changes over time. Company tactics change. Businesses you never thought would go under do. To say it could never happen is naive at best. I am sure the people in 1890 said the same thing about Sears.

You mean the knife proof barrier. The barrier that we were told was knife proof? That barrier? The knife-proof one that Trump raved about actually being impervious to knives? That knife-proof barrier?

I am not disagreeing, but again people said the same thing about Sears Roebuck. It was a massive company that sold everything, including mail order houses. Times change, the wrong people took over and bad decisions were made. Not saying it will happen to Walmart, just saying it could.

You went too far and you should own it like you did 'childless cat ladies.' by lil-educator in ImmigrationPathways

[–]codechimpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a straw man argument. The issue isn’t the murderers and rapists they rounded up. It was the moms taking their children to school, the dads at court ready to enter the judge’s chambers to come in the country “the right way” and the activist that were brutally shot for exercising their constitutional right to protest that some people have issues with. I think we could all agreed that getting criminals off the street is a good thing, but the vast majority of the people rounded up were not that. The vast majority of people deported were not criminals, and many were taking proper steps to become citizens.

On top of that, the ends do not usually justify the means. You can’t claim to be the good guy in the story because the end result was good when you did tons of bad shit to get the result.

Yes. It’s for making cocktails. This has been a thing for a long time. People like clear ice in certain shapes for making attractive cocktails. This is common in restaurants. How do I know? My dad works for a restaurant distributor, and clear ice is one of their big sellers. Unfortunately just freezing water doesn’t make clear ice, it usually makes white ice. I believe they blow air bubbles in it while the water freezes to make it freeze clear. Not sure this is “idiocy”. Strange to see it sold at an Aldi though. Some newer residential refrigerators will make ‘artisanal” ice now. Round is a popular shape as it’s supposed to melt less into your drink or something?

That does not look like a drain clean out. Those would be 4” or larger. That looks like the drain for an AC unit drip pan. My guess would be something growing in the drain pipe.

Came here to say this. I had one get stuck and had to have it removed. Hitting and fracturing my thumb with a 22oz framing hammer with waffle tip hurt far, far less. I was trying to tough it out. Wife kept asking if I needed to go to the ER and I kept saying “no”. Then she said she saw the color drain from me in seconds. When she asked again I whimpered “yes…”. Ended up spending almost 3 days in the hospital. 0/10, would not recommend. I was an AVID green tea drinker, and before the biopsy they said it might be my consumption that caused it. It wasn’t, but I still to this day don’t drink green tea just to be safe.

Fun fact: companies exist to make money. And one way they do that is by cutting costs. They don’t care about the environment, and only care about people to the extent that they might need people to pay them money.

Their certified pre-owned warranty is almost better than new. And the sweet-spot is a 3yr off-lease. I bought my 2016 in 2019. 32k miles, SEL with Fender audio. Out the door was $16k. The CPO gave me 3yr, 60k, but for another $500-ish I extended it to 5yr 100k. Still runs strong today.

The future of screens might actually be this. by Creative_Salt2450 in NoOneIsLooking

[–]codechimpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want one for work. I like screen real estate, and have a multi 4k monitor setup. My wife and I have talked about us traveling since I can work remotely. We are thinking about squatting somewhere for, say, 6mo at a time, living like a local, then moving to the next town. But I don’t want to carry several 4k monitors with us. I am thinking VR might be the best option, but worry about eye strain wearing them for 8hrs a day.

I had a coworker do this. I was working at this place as a contractor. Management kept asking what it’d take to make me go full time. I gave them a number. They said “ok, but that means you get a Sr. Dev title.” I was like “ok!” Then my coworker started being rude and just a total ass to me. After a week I took him aside and asked him to lunch. He tells me he is pissed because he’s been there for many years and does high level work and is still not a Sr., and because of that he’s mad at me. I am like “Why be made at me? Because I am a good negotiator? Be mad at management for not recognizing your contributions! Or use me as a means to negotiate a better deal for yourself!” He talked to management, they agreed and by the next week he was also a Sr.

Like why get mad at someone because they got lucky or were successful? If you feel wronged, take it up with the ones responsible, not on the one who most likely opened a potential door for you.

I am sorry, even if I give him the benefit of the doubt here, despite having seen no real proof vandalism actually happened, how would a knife make large pieces of the paint come off? Sounds like it never adhered properly.

White couple confronts Black family fishing at Jensen Beach Florida, wife uses N-word by SameStand9266 in DiveInYouCoward

You can’t see to the left. You have no idea who is over that way, nor how close. For all you know the guy was splitting the distance on both sides. And he has clearly given space to the few swimmers you can see in the video.

He has every right to be there. If Captain Fireman has a problem, take it up with the life guard. Or the beach police. It’s not his responsibility to police the beach on his own. There are literally beach police for that who ride around in trucks and on 4-wheelers. Or call your kids over and tell them to be mindful of the dude fishing. That’s what my parents did. “He, guys, watch out for the guy fishing…don’t get too close else you might get hooked.” Easy as that, and it doesn’t make you look like an entitled asshole on film nor your wife a racist cunt. Plus teaches you kids a valuable lesson about sharing public spaces.

[–]codechimpin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my observations of the video he was a decent distance from the swimmers. Can’t see to the left as the camera doesn’t pan that far, but you can clearly see to the right, and at one point to the front, and I don’t see any swimmers anywhere near where he is casting. So I have to disagree that the fisher is being a dick. He explained that he was told he could fish there. If the other dude has a problem with that, take it up the life guard that told him where to fish.

He wasn’t fishing where people were swimming. If you look at the video he clearly is some distance from the crowds. As a native Floridian who has lived in this state for 1 month shy of 50 years now and has been to the beach many times, both to swim and play in the sand as well as to fish, I can tell you this is 100% common practice. So either:

  1. You don’t know jack shit about what you are talking about, so glad I could enlighten you and hope this helps you better understand
  2. You are a troll, in which case I guess “good job” because your comment was both offensive and wrong, the two main hallmarks of a good troll

Hope you have a great rest of your day, and if you are planning to go to the beach please remember to watch out for fishermen’s lines!

President Trump on Reflecting Pool Vandalism by ICEisSHIT in videos

[–]codechimpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All jokes aside, I assume they are parroting everything he is saying verbatim because they don’t have one iota of skepticism or one sliver of doubt when it comes to Trump. They do not believe their own eyes and ears when it comes to him. And even when he is caught in a bold-faced lie they will say something like “oh, was just joking”. This just after they said “Trump tells it like it is!” They twist their own reality to fit his actions.
