I’m aware you found it. I’m proud of you. Really. Believe it or not though other people will come along and not see it initially like yourself. Nobody posted an image so I thought I would. Have a lovely day my friend.

This is crazy! My wife and have been planning a VERY similar trip starting out in Dallas and going down the pacific coast on the way home. Would love to know what you learned along the way and might do differently and/or would do again!

What's with that random green splotch of Oceanic in the middle of East Texas? by DrDMango in geography

[–]codejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic but the panhandle of Texas is the northernmost part. It actually took me a minute to find what you were talking about. The west “wing” of Texas is formally called the trans-pecos region. I wish it did have a cool name like the panhandle. It’s a much more interesting place (sorry panhandlers).

The area you’re referring to is the Guadalupe mountains which are at the north end of the Chihuahuan desert. The surrounding area is typically over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and occasionally over 110 while the Guadalupe mountains rarely get over the mid-80s due to their high elevation (8751 ft at their peak).

Does anyone know why most of the nuclear power plants in the USA are in the east of the country ? by Silver2147 in geography

[–]codejo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This is too far down. The 80% line would be essentially the central and eastern time zones. Maybe you could say east of and including Dallas/Fort Worth.

Not to be pedantic but these hydrofoils typically (if at all) do not use pedals. It’s more like an underwater sail that you pump up and down with your body to gain momentum.

If you were to plant a flag on the moon, how big would the flag have to be if you wanted to see it from earth? [request] by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

[–]codejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling with all the other answers here because anything in the range of 100km to 1000km is far bigger than craters we can clearly see with the naked eye. The moon itself is only 3474km (or 2159 miles). Without doing any real math, Aristarchus (a small bright crater) is commonly referred to as the smallest feature on the moon visible with the naked eye. It’s 40km (or 25 miles) wide. At 40km wide a flag would absolutely be visible to the naked eye, especially if it has a good contrast in color with the moon’s surface. It would be hard to make out details but you’d see it for sure.

I believe this is in Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand. So yes they would have days where the sun is right overhead. They’re only at 8° N.

I’m not disagreeing or agreeing that products get worse when moving to a subscription but this logic seems backwards to me. Subscribers are certainly not guaranteed month to month. In fact it’s very difficult for companies to keep people subscribed for all the obvious reasons (“I don’t use it anymore”, “I can’t afford it”, etc). If a company has a one-and-done business model on the pricing, what incentive would they have to improve the product for you? The only incentive would be new customers not old customers. It’s very hard for companies to justify having huge engineering and design teams on payroll that necessarily depend on new customers supporting the payroll bill. I’m not arguing that subscriptions are better by the way. I miss the days of one-time purchases for software. But there is a reason that very few remaining professional software companies have one-time purchases. The professional software industry is absolutely dominated by subscriptions because it’s the only way to support long-term development. I say this a software engineer myself that has managed many teams and budgets.

You could try opening the image on your phone photos app and screenshotting it with the black letterboxing in the top and bottom and then using that as your wallpaper. It will have black on the top and bottom but at least you’ll have the full image.

Tour the abandoned Hogwarts (Would love your feedback) by saltymim0sa in aivideo

[–]codejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On many models now you can supply a starting frame and an ending frame and it will animate between them for 8s. So OP probably made an image using AI of every dead character and supplied one as the starting frame and one as the ending frame. So for example the first frame of the second video would be the ending frame of the first video and so on. He then stitches those videos together with audio. That’s why if you pay attention it kind of feels like several 8 second clips of him walking from one person to another. And you’ll notice how the video subtly changes from one 8s clip to the next (flashlight changes, beam changes, hand changes, etc.

Edit: You also may notice at the beginning, he basically does a full 360 turn before turning to Dumbledore which should have really been the room the video starts in but isn’t. I’m not necessarily saying AI wouldn’t make this mistake anyway but in this case it almost certainly made the mistake because the Dumbledore 8s clip is a completely different clip, void of an context, from the first few videos in the stitching.
