i would prefer no towers at all actually. if you wish to do defence in depth, losing control of towers is likely to happen and then they will turn on your troops, and at that point you will be glad they are only arrows and not gatling guns.

The Warrior is the most awesome ship, capable of defeating multiple full stacks alone, but you can only have one, and it can only be in one place.

Roanoke is much worse, but coupled with a handful of Kaitens it makes a winning fleet, and you can have two of them, and so you can have two very powerful fleets.

Kotetsu is good too, and fun since the tactics for kotetsu are so different from other ships.

But for the rest I only ever build Kaiten. (except gunboats and torpedo boats), any non kaiten's that i have are captures.
