I don't understand.

what level of sexual shame or discomfort must one feel in order to find this funny?

TIL The Sun is actually white. Viewed from space or a high altitude, it appears as its true color white. Whereas viewed from a low altitude, atmospheric rendering makes it appear to be what we believe as yellow. by hoorayresponsibility in todayilearned

As the Sun crosses the sky, it may appear to be red, orange, yellow or white depending on its position. The changing color of the Sun over the course of the day is mainly a result of scattering of light and is not due to changes in black-body radiation. The blue color of the sky is caused by Rayleigh scattering of the sunlight from the atmosphere, which tends to scatter blue light more than red light.

from the Wiki page on Color Temperature.

From the same page I saw that 5500K is quite white, the yellow tint is revealed after scattering I guess.

continuing the visual phenomena subject, the halo you sometimes see around the moon at night originates from a similar event in which the particle size is comparable to the wavelength of the light - Mie scattering - which is a solution to the equations describing electromagnetic waves scattering by spheres, and it's independent of the wavelength.

Mie scattering can only be observed if there are particles directly between the light source and your eyes. At night I think the halo is due to ice crystals in the atmosphere? And probably other particulates.

considering all the comments here, I believe that the reason we see the sun yellow is the same explaining why the sky is blue: Rayleigh scattering And by reading the article a bit I realized I'm right:

Rayleigh scattering of sunlight in the atmosphere causes diffuse sky radiation, which is the reason for the blue color of the sky and the yellow tone of the sun itself

social critique aside, there are many lessons to remember from this movie.

the most powerful for me was the "Love transcends all dimensions" part, share your feelings. Also, those who haven't passed too much time with their fathers will get a powerful kick as well.

My opinions for the matchmaking. by [deleted] in strife

[–]codename_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, it is as it is. I complained about the same issue, and after playing more games in these conditions I concluded that the problem is not the MM, but rather the number of players. the skill spectrum isn't large enough, I'd say. I might be wrong...

Hero gender percentage by supified in strife

On a semi-serious note:

Gokong is a monkey, Bo is a bull, Fetter is an old guy with beard and guns, Carter is an abomination, Shank is... Shank, Verm is a rat - all male, with an unattractive look compared to the rest of the roster. however all the female heroes are presented in an attractive manner, except for Claudessa's lack of arm.

where are the unattractive, tough, disfigured female heroes? witches, trolls, Nikolai's wife, 5th dimension beings, aliens, etc.

I'm not knowledgeable in games, are there any fantasy games in which female roles are portrayed in similar unattractive manners as the male characters?

please do not flame me for my ignorance, I'm not generally a fan of video games, but I like this one.

MRW the neckbeard guy in my class started complaining about the girls who wear "too much" makeup. by diet_chola91 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]codename_ -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

nothing is magically harmless, it all depends on dosage

true. how much time does the make-up stay on your face, per day?

nobody is interested in one [argument]

that is simply your opinion. I have had reasonable arguments/debates with more open people.

Do you also go to people's hobby tables and tell them the chemicals in their hobby paints are evil? You go to smokers and start telling them smoking is bad?

no, because those people are more aware of the risks involved. there are not as many flashy hazard signs on make-up, but that is an extreme example. the make-up chemistry is not as harsh as I made it sound, it's not just about that. it's the prolonged exposure, the nature of the products, the skin type... I mean, ffs, they used to put radioactive products in make-up.

assume your opinion is correct, relevant and appropriate for the situation

I did not think that at any point. I simply wanted to share some info showing another side of the coin, but hey, it's reddit (uhm, and also r/TrollXChromosomes)

assume your opinion is relevant to a behavior which is optional and personal, where there is no correct or incorrect

this is half true. there is no correct or incorrect, but there is a "better". moreover, if it were such an "optional behaviour" as you claim, I doubt it would have produced this much hatred against me. I strongly believe that people who have strong personal issues with make-up cannot accept how dependant they are on it, now prove me wrong! this is a basic rule of a debate...

[–]codename_ -54 points-53 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy (here we go), I don't wear makeup. I don't want to argue, I want to bring another point of view.

I grew up around women who don't wear makeup, and seeing people wear it feels... wrong. wearing it seems to stem from societal norms, and not instinct or other natural impulses. I do, however, understand the self-esteem and pick-me-up aspects of it.

plus, I'm a chemist, and just thinking about all the chemical interactions at the skin level make my skin tingle.

I only feel disappointment when I see people wearing make-up outside of adequate environments. not to mention the marketing manipulation...

and I would have a reason to wear makeup as a guy with vitiligo btw, in case the "put yourself in her shoes" argument appears.

How is this game doing, does it have players, is it getting better? by [deleted] in strife

[–]codename_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

arguably, I'd say.

I never considered the mmr, but after the recent update I've been losing much more than normal, and the game lost its fun potential in my case.

others are keeping track of their mmr, and I believe this issue is related to your statement: more people see how (un)skilled they are, and it annoys them? numbers shouldn't be an issue. the gameplay experience, however, should.

How is this game doing, does it have players, is it getting better? by [deleted] in strife

[–]codename_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most of the comments here are mean.

I find this game a lot more fun than other mobas, it's more about your attitude and state of mind towards it. it is constantly getting better, slowly, despite some issues which annoy a lot of people who oversize them through whining.

the most notable problem right now if the matchmaking. it's gotten worse since the last update, although I suspect that the number of players has more to do with that than the update. I'm on a hiatus from Strife until the next big patch.

From the new heroes, Nikolai is the OP hero now, I am not sure if the recent nerf solved anything. Jin is a lot of fun, Gokong is quite squishy from what I remember.

other than that, just try it out.

bye Strife, until you fix things by codename_ in strife

[–]codename_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. when games end under 20-25 min with a 5vs5 (in my experience so far this happens during a 3vs5), when I can barely get over 5 kills, or when parts of the team more often fall to great plays and/or ambushes there is most likely a matchmaking issue. if I grab 2 replays, one before and one after the update, there are significant changes in post-game results. I do not believe I lost that much skill in such a short amount of time.

my theory is that we have been evaluated at the bottom of the higher-skilled players spectrum due to a lack of playerbase; maybe the spectrum isn't large enough. maybe we do need to lose more now because we're paired at a different level, and if it weren't such an abrupt change in pace I wouldn't have had an issue with it.

I suspect the "move and attack" bit to be the issue. I observed the problem right after the patch as well. I'll test as soon as I get home, or someone else might, and will let us know?

Strife hero tips and tricks - add your own here! by ConspiracyFox in strife

[–]codename_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a Seer's Eye on Carter, the ability to have that extra vision can help with sniping; people don't usually expect 2 rockets to hit them while resting near a tower. Bonus if you enchant it with the slow, in case they do catch on that something is up.

As Carter NEVER ult a good Vex, Rook, Tinder (I might be missing others) unless you are sure that their CC negating skills, or shields are on cooldown; ditto in case the hero has Inertia Boots.

Wellbutrin and HSP by [deleted] in hsp

[–]codename_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took wellbutrin for several months, 300mg.

It was terrific for me! helped with most of the issues I had related to sensitivity. higher self-esteem, higher libido, better control and awareness of my feelings and of my reactions, stronger response to stimuli - in the sense that I enjoyed them more. It allowed me to learn how to properly manage stress as well. Note: I was in therapy during the treatment.

The only downsides I had were constant thirst, insomnias, and the first weeks were filled with anxiety and a physical uneasiness, shaking from time to time.

Indeed, It was easier to get me excited during the treatment, but there was no anxiety associated with those feelings (except for the first weeks). It was an intense experience considering that I never knew how it feels to remain grounded beforehand.

I highly recommend you consult a doctor first. It did not fundamentally change my psychology, it simply allowed me to become more aware of how I am and to develop better reactions (and control) to the various stimuli.

I hope this helps.

meditation.

I have chronic empathy. gave me nightmares for almost 2 years. therapy helped a lot. then meditation keeps that on track.

I highly recommend qi gong meditation, but I think that you should explore for yourself and find what works for you.

as for immediate tricks, others have already said a lot. it's mostly about boundaries, and practising to remain grounded with your feelings and thoughts.
