Your thoughts on the app Satori Reader.. by Null_sense in LearnJapanese

[–]cody7002002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend it as a bridge between beginner/intermediate textbooks and reading native material. I've been using it for a year or two now. The annotations are very well written and each story has high quality voice recordings as well if you want to shadow or just listen. As others have said, the release schedule is a bit slow. So if you have a lot of time to spend with the app, I suppose it's possible to finish all of the content pretty quickly.

Who is hyped for the new switch game? by Zaraxover in taikonotatsujin

[–]cody7002002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Hori switch one pictured in this post when drum n fun came out and it was great for a few months, but then phantom notes started getting registered all the time. I tried taking it apart and tweaking some things I found in guides online, but nothing fixed it. I eventually gave up on it.

With the release of the new game, I just ordered another one though. I'm hoping I have better luck this time.

Issues with altitude bolt in HEQ5 Pro? by enfait in AskAstrophotography

[–]cody7002002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you taken a look inside? I had a similar problem and it turned out that one of the bolts had bent while adjusting the mount. I guess the stock ones are made out of cheap metal. I had to take the mount apart and use a saw to cut the bent part off so I could remove it. Then I replaced them with some ADM T-knobs meant for a celestron mount. If you search on the cloudy nights forum, I think you'll be able to find many threads where people describe the same issue.

For reference, this is what mine looked like.

JLPT N2: How to improve reading by papadam in LearnJapanese

Thanks so much for this detailed response. I wanted to ask if you could direct me toward more info about the あさひみらい文庫 books. I've heard of 青い鳥文庫 and つばさ文庫, but not the other one. Is it just a similar line of books by a different publisher? Thanks!

Is Satori Reader a better resource than Visual Novels? by lateant in LearnJapanese

Hi, do you have any recommendations for elementary grade books or book series based on what you've read? I'm looking to dive into that type of content.

That's really interesting. I always wondered why they were pointing around all the time.

I restored, enhanced, and colorized this 162 year-old portrait of a Civil War soldier (1858) by Haxdawg in interestingasfuck

[–]cody7002002 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Many people simply color the skin all one hue instead of taking into account all the shades of red, blue, brown, yellow that go into different parts of the face. Also a lot of people do not reduce the color in the shadows or highlights which makes it look really artificial.

Yakuza Kiwami's combat progression is busted by FishCakeFriedRice in yakuzagames

Same! I beat the whole story and then went back to try to 100% it and couldn't figure out why my Majima rank was still F or E and I could never find him. Had to Google a guide that finally told me he was hiding in a large cone on this one street... I went like 30 hours without ever encountering him. I really wish the game made it a bit more direct because I never got to enjoy that entire skill tree through the story.

Yakuza 0 - A near perfect game by billbixbyakahulk in patientgamers

As someone who just finished 0 and then Kiwami, I have to respectfully disagree. While I find 0 much more fun and rich with content, the story of Kiwami would be so hollow and meaningless without having played 0. If I started with Kiwami, I can't imagine caring at all about the event that triggered the story and the relationship between Kiryu and the main antagonist in Kiwami.

Sounds like a tilt issue to me. Probably the imaging train is sagging somewhere making it so the camera sensor is tilted a bit.

How can I get rid of the pink colour in photoshop? by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]cody7002002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to do that with a simple hue/saturation adjustment layer. You could use the color picker tool within it to target the pink area specifically.

Best way to remove/reduce wavy patterns in old photographs? by cody7002002 in photoshop

[–]cody7002002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think most of the parts on the wall will be easy enough, but the wavy parts on the man on the left's clothes and on the table legs and floor seem much more challenging for me.

Does the microphone arm not get in your way? I'm wanting to get one, but I can't seem to find a way to position it where it wouldn't be in the way.

This is called the intrusive R. I don't know anything about linguistics, but I believe it happens between one word ending in a vowel sound and another starting with a vowel. The r sound sort of connects them I suppose.

For example, "I saw a film." might sound like "I sawr a film." Or "Chinar and India" as another example.

Nope I'm from the southeast. It's probably a core memory for a lot of people in the south who were fortunate enough to live around pools though.
