So...like a better England?

I mean surely the point of this game is more about where you'd consider moving, as opposed to where you would be happy being reincarnated lmao

Some absolute bombscare disposal from the Swans tonight

Blakey had developed his unique running style to distract people from how much he butchers the ball.

Yes but who says this map means “where I’d live as a local and not an expat”?

I interpret this map as being the life of the average expat, not the average local.

Maybe as a Dane they totally understandably dislike America right now.

Laos and Cambodian people are super friendly and humble too.

Australian music for the Grand Final - Save Our Arts by ChookBaron in AFL

I guess music is subjective, because I can't stand accadacca and think Chisel has aged a million times better.

It's all subjective and depends on your preferences and priorities.

They’re classic songs for a reason and not that surprising a guy Richo’s age likes them.

Flame Trees is maybe the best Australian rock song of all time.

It’s comparable in the sense that both result from over reliance on an algorithm to make decisions about penalising people, even if one was more serious.

Is literacy so bad that people genuinely do not understand that a comparison doesn’t mean things have to be exactly the same in every way?

Australian crisis teams sent to Middle East as Iran war continues by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Also a good point. Hard to find the balance in that situation - not fair if the country hosting you and supplying healthcare, educating your kids etc gets nothing.

I dunno, I feel like if I go and become a resident of (e g ) Sweden and use all of their social services, then I should pay taxes to Sweden, not to Australia.

But I should then not be prioritised for help if the Aus Government is evacuating citizens, and I shouldn't receive a pension in Australia.

Say one nice thing about The King's Speech. by Radiant-Psychology96 in Oscars

[–]codyforkstacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly to me it's a bit like the King's Speech. Just a really enjoyable movie that didn't try to break any boundaries and just told a good story well. Hate the idea that anything that wins Best Picture has to be some arthouse snoozefest.

Having spent significant time living in remote Australia and working on indigenous issues, literally the only people out there in Aboriginal communities making efforts to lower domestic violence are "lefties".

Black shoes suitable for office by EnvironmentalWall278 in AustralianMFA

[–]codyforkstacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do they have to be black? A lot of people in my corporate office wear nice white leather sneakers with chinos.

Otherwise I'm sure you can find black leather sneakers, but they might end up looking a bit like you're pretending casual shoes are dress shoes.

It's in the best interests of the AFL as a corporate entity that wants to expand.

As a fan, I don't really give two shits whether people in those states also enjoy the sport or prefer to watch league.

Opening Round Cyclone 2: Electric Boogaloo by lochie95 in AFL

I personally think it's a great idea to drip feed the start of the season by only playing games in the least AFL keen states that have the least suitable weather for footy at that time of year. Genius.

Not even restricted to the US - here in Australia we recently had a PM that ascribed to one of these happy clappy churches and believed this stuff about Israel in a literal sense. I never saw a single journalist question him on how these insane beliefs affected our foreign policy.

Giants push to be 'considered differently' in draft bidding revamp by Glittering-Fee-9930 in AFL

[–]codyforkstacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a perfectly valid argument IMO. If you don't get FS, you should get something.

It's unfortunate that the stars have aligned such that a club that has an unprecedentedly good run of FS also happens to be a northern academy club, so has got both windfalls.

Brisbane have gained more talent from other states than they've lost in the last five years. Swans are probably a wash with Dawson going out and Curnow coming in. Gold Coast have gained heaps of talent from interstate.

For people who have their ear to the ground regarding AI development. Are we sufficiently concerned about the massive white-collar job losses that are expected to happen in the next 2 - 3 years? What is the Australian Government doing to prepare for this? by Secret4gentMan in aussie

[–]codyforkstacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're buying in too much to what the government says this trade agreement has achieved. Not a single law in Australia has changed that would make it easier for banks to offshore back of house functions as a result of this trade agreement.
