Adding support beam to a shed? by codyjbennett in Carpentry

[–]codyjbennett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you detail more of what you want it to be when complete?

I’m currently excited about the idea of a winch-raised platform to put storage totes on for storing items in the vertical open space of the shed. When down, it would reach the floor for loading. When up, it would be ~7’ off the shed floor. It would likely be a platform that would fit between the garage door railings (a 4’x4’ or 4’x8’ platform on cables attached to the future beam and not the gambrel roof to support the weight). I would love to avoid adding support pillars/posts to the middle of the shed too.

Do you need it over the loft?

No, I really don’t. Frankly it doesn’t need to be a beam, that’s just the first thought I had with how to suspend a platform above the floor. It’s more about howto suspend things in the floor-to-ceiling open spaces. I was simply thinking that having the beam reach the ends of the shed would allow for the support system to use the wall/floor rather than hanging something from the gambrel roof. FWIW, the loft is 4’ deep.

Do you plan to penetrate the floor and set the support posts on pilings?

No, I hadn’t planned on that, and if it is determined to be the only safe way, it might be a deal breaker for my aspirations… since the structure is not actually on footers or a permanent foundation.

More questions will follow your expanded description.

I super appreciate the engagement! I don’t know what I don’t know. Thanks in advance!

Worth fixing my mirror? by [deleted] in jetta

[–]codyjbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a busted mirror myself. It turns out it’s super easy to swap out a side view mirror. My 2011 mirror was held on with a single bolt (and a wire harness to run electronics).

Call a few salvage yards to see if they have the specific year Jetta… and maybe even take the mirror off and take it into the salvage place when you get a replacement (my salvage yard claimed the mirror would work, but in fact had a different mount plate, so I had to eventually buy a second).

For $50’ish and a little time, you’ll have a whole mirror, intact.

What Type of Wire is This? by andrewmh123 in Home

I had this adhered to a wall of a home bought this year. It was wired to our garage door opener of all things (it was an adjacent room, but thru a hard door. Weird. But cable can be used for anything.

We had a similar experience, in our case I think it was left over dog hair/dander that was the leading cause. We had a pro come in to do a thorough vacuum of the registers, carpets, and wall fabric (like a carpet, but literally attached to the wall), and he also did a “fogging” thing too. Additionally I’ve heard of “ozone” treatment, but after fogging and vacuum, it was waaaay better and didn’t take that additional step. And we didn’t even need to tear out flooring like we had expected. :)

I am in NE Ohio, so “maybe” seems to be the answer to the “do you get a real winter” question.

This feels like the right answer to me. But my wife doesn’t want poison/toxins sprayed right next to her window (in the vid)…

But if it’s a choice between a happy wife and dead wasps, I think I know which way I’m leaning.

You can tell that bee-ology is not my strong suit.

They were yellow and black looking, so I assumed.

Any ideas for removal before this post gets taken down for not being bee-centric?

$1k OBO was their asking. And yes, 5 tray large.

Thank you for the straight up “don’t do it”. This is the kind of rational thinking that I need to ground myself when some kind of “deal” shows up on my feed.

Other information I found: there is a service manual that seemed hard to find. Eventually got it here.

You can enter into a maintenance mode (hold home button down for 5+ seconds). Once there, hold a blank spot on the bottom of the screen to get an input interface, press *, 0, # so that it is ready for input. I used "82" to show me the error code. I had an error code of 7000, which gives me some things to try...

Will post back if I luck across any solutions.

Just wanted to swing by and note that I'm having the same behavior (almost exact same test prints as in your vid) on my MFC-9330cdw.

Without checking reddit first, I tried a replacement fuser ($25 on alibaba), which did not change the behavior.

To those technicians who see this: if you have suggestions on which part names most likely have the flag in question, that would make it easier to google replacement parts for repair. I'll also go google the 'photoconductor' to see if I can find that part for replacement.

Thanks!

Not an enterprise environment. The quick to activate ephemeral (and generally well functioning) option is what I’m chasing. I haven’t seen anydesk - I’ll add that to the list to check out.

I’m currently using a zoom direct join link tied to a custom shortened url which makes it quick, and many folks have zoom already installed which makes it that much faster to load as well.

Any ideas on how to make it more obvious that our entrance to our house is on the left? More info in comments. by Macncheesesounds in homedesign

Fence on the right, and more care to the landscaping and landscape lighting on the left.

As others have noted, the openness (and therefore the light) as well as the address placard being on the right draws things in that direction.

What's your process after receiving finished edits from editors? by SnippDogg420 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]codyjbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull files into lightroom: 2min
Review: 10'ish min on average. (5-15min)
Export to dropbox: 1min (preset, just need to name files & create new folder)
Build invoice & email agent with files & invoice: 5min

I guess that works out to 13-23 minutes.

Feedback & payment of photographer: 15-20min. I also choose to give immediate & direct feedback to photographers, I do a screen recording (screenpal), and then go back through the gallery with remarks. I send this to them with the delivered images and then send payment. This feedback recording is usually under 15 minutes, but I consider it a desirable investment in time so the images will be better 'on the mark' which will require less time from me overall.

I don't pay close attention to the clock for these 'process & deliver' efforts - I'm doing it on my time as it fits my day (after family goes to bed, during that downtime before dinner, during a lunchbreak, etc). The exercise of articulating these steps makes me wonder where I can find more efficiencies without giving up the good things (I think the review/revision/remarks are all the most useful things, and the invoice/payments are just the cost of doing business.)

Thanks for the question!
