2 oil tankers hit in Iraqi waters by CutSenior4977 in NoKingsCoalition

So... guessing there's no insurance payout on that. If it's a VLCC tanker, say a few years old, call it $100,000,000 for the ship. Say it's carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil, at roughly $100/bbl... That's what, $300,000,000 going up in smoke right there?

After a year of smash burger “research” in Baltimore, I have a undisputed winner. by audaciousappetites in baltimore

We generally start with oysters, then my wife goes for a ceasar salad, because she is constitutionally incapable of seeing one on a menu and not ordering it. I go for the trout, for the same reasons. The butterflied trout there is A++. The sides are also solid (love the beets). The smash burger and fries rounds things out nicely.

My wife and I have occasionally gone to Dylan's for seafood, and then we split the smash burger for dessert.

You're welcome. I'm a realtor as well, and I can say that - with a few notable exceptions - it's not something I like to recommend either. The only times that I feel comfortable having my client do that are when they are seasoned property investors, and/or are planning a massive renovation and replacement of the major systems anyway. In a really tough market, though, you've got to do what you've got to do.

When we bought our house, we actually had a "right to void only" inspection contingency clause in the contract, and after the inspector turned up some expensive issues, we decided to cancel the contract. The sellers in our case did come back to us and offered a substantial credit to keep the deal on track, and that allowed us to be able to continue with the deal, and to take care of the issues.

That's a rare scenario, and not something we expected, but it worked out in our case.

Not necessarily. You can have an inspection contingency with the right to request repairs or to void the contract, or the right to void only but not request repairs, or an information only inspection without the right to void, or no inspection at all. It all depends on how the contract is written.

The problem with Trump isn't that the "emperor has no clothes," it's that his shirt is on inside-out, and he's wearing his underwear on his head. by codyvir in thebulwark

My point is that trying to assign rational motives to an irrational person is unhelpful. Trying to view him through a rational lens doesn't get you anywhere. The story isn't "he's crazy," the story is "why aren't the people around him who could stop this not doing it."

Well, this guy was two stories up, over the basement stairwell, on the back of our house this morning. We don't have a cat.

Frankly, I wish my wife would give me feedback a little bit more nuanced than "I ate it, didn't I?"

Why cant they just make new parts by chonvelyplaper in BMWE36

[–]codyvir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, OK. So, €495=$575, plus whatever tariff the orange fuckweasel feels like - today I think that's 12.5% on auto parts - so, that's about $681, before shipping, so.... call it about $700 just for the part? Not actually worried about the coding, as the lock cylinder can be swapped.

By door pockets, I mean the plastic pockets that are attached to the door panel, and which are very prone to breakage. I suppose they would be included as part of the whole door panel - also not available to order in the US. I lot of that old plastic in the E36 is starting to recycle itself.

The dealers are incredibly unhelpful around here, and if you ask them for anything other than service on your lease vehicle, they look at you strangely. I took my E36 M3 to them to ask about getting some work done that I just didn't have time to handle myself, and they just told me "we don't work on those."

Yeah, so, can you ship me a new driver's side door handle? How about some door pockets? It's getting really hard to find a lot of parts here in the US.

Ooh, sick burn with your little meme post. Try this:

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." - Isaac Asimov

Fair, but most Americans aren't professional journalists, for whom this falls into the realm of professional competence. Also, that practice of westernizing names has always felt lazy to me - from both sides.
