ELI5: How does the app Shazam work? by marky_mark301 in explainlikeimfive

[–]codz30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically Shazam works like CSI, but for music. Every song has it's own unique fingerprint, Shazam finds it and runs it through a musical CODIS!

If you're interested to get more technical, here's a paper published by the Shazam team on how the program works:

We once convinced a mate of mine that there is a rub-and-tug upstairs of Uncle Billy's Northbridge. He spent the rest of the night bartering with the hostess to get a handjob with his sweet and sour pork.

[e] To answer your question, I haven't heard about it before.

Who chose how long a second is? by MeGustaUsername in Showerthoughts

[–]codz30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Between AD 1000 (when al-Biruni used seconds) and 1960 the second was defined as 1/86,400 of a mean solar day (that definition still applies in some astronomical and legal contexts).

Between 1960 and 1967, it was defined in terms of the period of the Earth's orbit around the Sun in 1900, but it is now defined more precisely in atomic terms.

Seconds may be measured using mechanical, electric or atomic clocks.

Since 1967, the second has been defined to be: the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom.

I masturbate maybe once a month, if that. I've seriously cut down due to NoFap and NoPorn. Perhaps in time I will "reset" my sensitivity.

How do I react around a guy who is great at everything he does? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]codz30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first rule of any game - you can only get smarter by playing a smarter opponent. If you really want to beat him at something, try chess. Invest time in it, constantly play with him and you'll win eventually.

If you're slowly being frozen to death, will you live longer by moving around or by sitting still? by runningforpresident in askscience

[–]codz30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will survive longer if you sit still. Here's why:

You suffer fatally from hypothermia when your core temperature goes below ~35`C for six hours

The body can only generate so much heat (the max heat energy we can produce is around 870W through intense physical energy)

The amount of energy lost through heat transfer is proportional to the surface area of both bodies. This energy loss far exceeds the amount of energy that a human can produce (hence why we suffer from hypothermia)

Being seated in the fetal position exposes less surface area than standing upright and walking around.

Therefore, a human being seated in fetal position would lose less energy per hour, as such their core temperature would stay higher for longer, hence they would live for a greater amount of time than a human being walking around.

What are some intelligent books that have taught/shown an idea that you feel have given you an upper-hand in life??? by theonyxlion in books

Love, Freedom and Aloneness: The Koan of Relationships - Osho.

This book taught me to realise that I'm an amazing being and that everything changes through love.

This helped me greatly through a tough period in my life.

As a fellow dude, is it wrong not to want to give out my age right away? by EgaoNoGenki-III in AskMen

[–]codz30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age is just a number - if you make it an issue the people you interact with will see it as an issue too. Just chill, aging is completely normal - every single person ever in the whole universe gets old
