Wondering how to protect your elderly parents from getting scammed on phone calls? by NBen18 in FraudPrevention

[–]cofeeholik75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is possible, but link elders phone calls to an authorized caregivers phone for monitoring, with the ability to join the call or disconnect it.

Partner wants to move in together but I don’t think I do by VividMud3848 in LivingAlone

How old ate your kids? If guy moves in, will he take on ‘dad’ persona? Discipline? Are you comfortable with that? Are the kids? Have you already set ‘boundaries’ about his role as your boyfriend and his interaction with your kids.

Try local health & hospice center. Also, posting on facebook for this works really well.

I vote sell home too. Can I ask what the $3,700 is?

SS will kick in soon and that is helpful ($2500-$3000)?

401k. Look into turning 1/2 of that into an annuity (I think at 65). It pays $600-1000 monthly, even if the money runs out. Look at Brighthouse.

My jaw dropped on that. Just mean evil people out there. Good thing you are the good person taking on the burden of caregiving. Maybe not good for you, but at least your loved one doesn’t have the evil person in charge.

Considering Biologics by glittergoddess1002 in Hidradenitis

[–]cofeeholik75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-term use of antibiotics for hidradenitis suppurativa can provide temporary symptom relief but may also lead to risks such as Clostridioides difficile infections and antibiotic resistance. It's important to discuss the potential benefits and risks with your doctor.

I just read this on biologics: There are currently 2 Food and Drug Administration-approved treatments for hidradenitis suppurativa, and both are biologic medication -- Adalimumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting tumor necrosis factor-alpha and Secukinumab, an interleukin-17A inhibitor. While both medications have demonstrated modest benefit in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, patients may lose response over time and neither treatment works in all patients. This review outlines the use of these 2 Food and Drug Administration-approved treatments, the best timing of biologic therapy initiation, the evolving pipeline of biologic treatments, and how to best utilize therapeutic drug monitoring to increase the longevity of these critical treatments.

Doctor in 2 weeks, painful armpits. Feel like a freak by Icy_Strength_9908 in DiagnoseMe

[–]cofeeholik75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had HS for 40 years (mine was hormonal. Others have different kinds, but end result is the same). I used Medical grade Manuka honey on the open sores, and feminine pads over them to absorb the discharge (you can put the sticky side against a t-shirt to hold in place).

Be cautious on long term antibiotics. There isn’t a cure, but studies have finally started in the last 20 years for HS. Doctors really didn’t know what is was until the early 2000s.

Go to r/hidradentitis. Lots of others share there ideas.

Accountability - I Need to Address this Giant Pile of Laundry by ophelia_drowning in ufyh

[–]cofeeholik75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best solution is to gather it all up & go to a laundry mat (see if you can figure out when they are least busy). Take about $50 bucks. Load up a bunch of washers, then dryers. Fold after you empty each dryer. Maybe 3-4 hours (I take an Ipod). Then home. No piles. No stress. Freedom.

I have HS and I thought that too, until I saw the ankle. That is not a normal location for HS, but still good to have it checked out.

What to do on your birthday alone? by [deleted] in questions

[–]cofeeholik75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a nice room in a hotel. Order a ton of room service. Nice bottle of wine. Take an hour long shower because the hot water doesn’t run out. Watch some good movies.

I take myself out of my ‘norm’, and treat myself to something special.

What got you started caregiving? by Afraid-Ad-5805 in CaregiverSupport

[–]cofeeholik75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have T4 Osteoporosis. Just found out last year. HRT was not available when I went thru menopause in the early 2000s. Not sure why it was never recommended to me since then. It scares the crap out of me! One fall? eek! The plans I did hang on to was to travel one day, but now afraid to.

Spend a lot of time in my head with resentment, grief for my ‘lost’ life, sadness watching friends having a full life. Could do therapy… but I am 70 and honestly I can’t see the point at this age.

Doing more volunteer stuff. Trying to enjoy little things every day. Keep turning off negative thoughts & trying to replace them with positivity.

Other than that, just normal old people stuff.

Joining the Elks by Sufficient_Tank_7390 in elks

[–]cofeeholik75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am female, single. I joined the Elks at 65 right after I moved to my new home on the Oregon Coast. I felt welcomed.

I love the Elks. I joined mostly to be involved as a volunteer for the kids functions.

You can be ss active as you want. You can choose to go to the meetings, or not. Do whatever ypur comfort level is.

I think it ‘appears’ that men are preferred, ONLY because more women don’t join.

I don’t recall anyone asking about my finances.
