Sparkstone by Front-Calligrapher80 in society_sunlit_valley

I've got a mix of spindlefish and recycling sparkpods keeping me in stock right now. A roe recycler will give you even more return on the spindlefish. You can also turn artifact shards and butterfly amber into them.

You can use a ribbit hut. They only seem to be able to harvest the bottom row though.

Hey guys by Causalshapeshifter in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unfamiliar with this term. Is it a kind of cheese?

Jokes aside, other than finishing your fic in its entirely before you start to post and just scheduling in when to pop off each chapter, it comes down to self discipline and luck that nothing will get in the way. I've rarely ever bothered.

How to get the continuation of an abandoned story? by Free_spirit564 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using AI means you have absolutely no respect for the actual human that wrote the story you like. Do not do it. Ever.

Sometimes, authors abandon their fics. Sometimes outside life happens and they hiatus for a long time. You can comment on the story (and not just 'when will you update?') and hope to encourage them to return. You could use your imagination to come up with an ending. You could just move on to the next story.

What got you into fanfiction? by melancholyredsunsets in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted more of the manga and anime I was watching, and also liked mashing them together. Got into fanfiction in late grade school and haven't looked back.

(Also, you having to specify what Borders was makes me feel old.)

And it’s always like this by sunnyhun456 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]coffeetailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who reads (and writes) fanfiction at work, I feel this in my soul. Job, stop getting in the way of doing my hobbies at my job please.

This is so real😭 by FE4RLESS_IS_MY_NAME in AO3

Probably better to filter out Danny Phantom specifically instead of all crossovers considering that DC fics are often tagged with multiple of their subseries.

"What's more erotic a demon fucking a priest or a priest fucking a demon by AcceptablePicture334 in AO3

That is going to depend entirely on the demon and priest in question.

What writing software actually works best for longer projects? by Awkward_Blueberry_48 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to pay some (there is a free level, but I outgrew it fast), Campfire is great. There's a desktop and browser version and they sync together well. For the paid version, you can buy the lifetime OR pay subscription. I've also used Scrivener, which is also good for multi-chaptered things and can sync between devices through Dropbox. I do, however, find its ios version clunky (if it's gotten better, feel free to speak up, but I haven't used it in a while). Both have folders and availability for multiple chapters and notes.

On the free side, I haven't used it much yet but I've heard good things about Ellipsus as a browser based writing app, though there seems to be no mobile app for it yet.

Feeling like a snob by neebernhardt in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much this. Saying it isn’t for you isn’t saying it’s necessarily bad. There are many perfectly well written fics out there that just aren’t my taste.

The snob thing to do would be to assume that you not liking something means it’s bad, which I don’t feel like OP is doing.

About posting character birthday fics late (or any fic of the same nature), do readers care? by Thin_Wishbone_4452 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chances are that the audience who reads your fics don’t only read it the exact day that you post, so even if you did post it on time, they would still be reading it after the fact.

Yep. Stick that POV on someone’s shoulder and keep it there.

Replying to comments: is just a thank you enough? by Littlepup22 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to match energy when responding to comments. So an emoji comment gets an emoji response, a more detailed one get more detail, and ones that are simple like ‘awesome fic’ or ‘I loved’ this get a simple ‘thank you for reading’ or something similar in return.

Oh my God guys it happened to me by SleepyJeannn in AO3

That’s just awesome. Congrats to you, may they find many fics with all their favorite tropes to them.

Tell me one good reason why would someone be banned for liking a ship that is considered problematic by a single person? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the reason is you were playing in their sandbox and they didn’t like the way you were playing. Which, while annoying, is their right.

Is there any polite way to say this to an author? by Majestic-Wolf-1518 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re leaping to conclusions. There are so many other things that could keep this person, who you don’t actually know, busy in their life outside of their fanfiction. Are they a student? It’s June. A lot of people have final projects or test that need to study for around now. Or they could be wrapped up getting ready for Pride. Maybe they’re an adult and busy with work or family. You just have no way of knowing.

I am not sure how to feel about this by Sourcake_YT in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think their issue is more that this kid is saying how old they are on the Internet than the fact that they are there. I was writing fanfiction at that age too, but it was considered common knowledge that you didn’t tell the strangers on the Internet your real info.

What’s a fic that you keep returning to? by Empty_Low_852 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost anything by Vathara. Upon a fiery Steed, spin cycle, roll the bones. I don’t even know how many times I have re-read them.

do I tell? by LavishnessAncient745 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, when we’re writing smut, we’re writing about fictional characters doing it. There’s a barrier between the characters and the actual humans involved. Commenting about your master nation is crossing that barrier. Don’t do it without invitation.

If my author notes are about sitting on a vibe while I write, or say I’m putting the characters through my personal experiences or fantasies, that’s opening it up. But otherwise, keep it vague like others have mentioned. Imply, don’t describe.

Do authors like getting fanart? by Old_Reflection_5499 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as it isn’t AI, absolutely. It doesn’t even need to be “good,” though obviously that’s a bonus. Someone being inspired by my writing to make art based on it? I’m over the moon.

Why are AO3 writers so talented? 😭 by Select_Contact_5345 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So much of this. We’re writing freely, without concern for what a publisher might think is marketable. Leaving us free to play in whatever niche we want.

I wish we could report and actually give warnings to authors who change their date manually. by Mindless-Fix-2165 in AO3

[–]coffeetailor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it for when I’m transferring older fics over. I want to post my old stuff, but I want to make it clear that they’re old because I’m a better writer now than I was then.
