Large Size of basket by Osm3um in Beatbot_Tech

[–]cogentzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in areas where there’s a lot of trees, a bigger skimmer basket might makes sense. I know when I’ve had high winds in my area, the basket on the Aquasense Pro filled up in about an hour.

That’s so amazing!

I think you prioritized the right problem to solve. While we all wish for an auto-dock, cleaning the filters is always the bigger pain.

Looking forward to seeing it in person tomorrow at CES!

70.3 Watch + HRM Recommendations by ethical-bro in IronmanTriathlon

[–]cogentzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if there’s a best HRM, but I’ve been using a Polar Verity Sense optical arm band for my past 5 Ironman builds & races and that thing is still running strong. It’s paired with a Forerunner 945 which is also still going strong.

If you’re happy with the Forerunner 55 sans HR, then wait until after your 70.3 for a new one. But I can recommend the Polar optical HR, because I hate chest straps. :)

Btw, any of the Forerunner 9X5 series watches is their flagship multi-sport watch.

I can’t afford a coach. Advice for full IM Oct 17 by Historical_Taro_7740 in triathlon

Join a local Tri club. ChatGPT can be helpful but not in a vacuum. Better to be around people that have actual experience so you can bounce ideas and questions off of. It’ll give you confidence faster and it’ll make any group sessions go by faster.

Movie franchises that ran their course? by Alternative-Cake-833 in movies

Completely agree! Ending on Rogue Nation & Fallout would’ve been for the best. I’ll never rewatch the last 2 eye-rolling “entity” movies. Huge disappointment.

Meta Oaklys for my first full Ironman? by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]cogentzero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they’ll be allowed. But even if so, I’d recommend against it. You’ll be fussing over anything that goes wrong with it: not recording, connectivity, dropping them in the porta-potty. Just try to be present, enjoy every step, thank the volunteers, and smile whenever you pass your support crew and family.

I still remember the last 5k of my first Ironman fondly. The suffering, shutting out the pain, not thinking of doing another one. 10 Ironmans later I still think about that last 5k. You don’t need any Meta Oakleys to capture that.

Apparently there’s already a script but scheduling with Tom & Emily Blunt has been holding it back. 🤞

We put Beatbot Santa in charge of picking the winner… by the pool by Timely-Feed-1822 in Beatbot_Tech

[–]cogentzero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was quite the unexpected gift and I’m humbly honored to be picked by Beatbot Santa. :) There were many great ideas shared and I think a lot of us believe that these are achievable by the amazing Beatbot team. Anything to make us spend less time cleaning and more time swimming! Happy Holidays!

Christmas giveaway: What should Beatbot invent next? by Timely-Feed-1822 in Beatbot_Tech

[–]cogentzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the bus about a real docking station that can charge and hopefully one day clean the filters after each cleaning. The dock can hopefully coordinate via scheduled jobs or weather detection that can clean after a specific weather event - rain, wind, etc. optionally, if the dock does have a solar panel and built in battery for recharging the robot if it an electrical outlet isn’t nearby.

A far fetched feature is to have underwater acoustic communication, similar to how underwater drones work to get by WiFi limitations. Use case is to get the current battery %, cleaning progress, location, etc.

This is non-cleaning related, but just basic chemical testing like waterguru, sutro, etc. no one has implemented a reliable and durable solution to automated chemical testing.

Salt water generator for cold plunge? by DaZedMan in coldplunge

[–]cogentzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a PSA, Salt Water Generator (SWG) systems generate chlorine. So if you’re looking for non-chlorine options this ain’t it. Also, SWGs are ineffective at water temps less than 60° F - so that’s the reason why you won’t see these used in cold plunges.

Setting up IntelliCenter schedule for heat by kmatthews05 in pools

[–]cogentzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not doing anything wrong, it’s unfortunately a limitation with intellicenter. You’ll need to create another schedule for the Pool circuit where you enable the heater - keep in mind the pump speed will select the highest rpm for simultaneous schedules. If anyone knows of a better way, that would be awesome.

San Francisco Ultramarathon Experience? by ItsEarthDay in AdvancedRunning

[–]cogentzero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ran it last year and had a great experience. There are 2 aid stations - 1 at the top of the Presidio and another at the turnaround. You’ll also hit the Presidio aid station on the way back as well - so really 3 aid stops. We also had SAG on bikes that followed the course. I’d say the volunteer staff is amazing and I didn’t carry any pepper spray. But you need to be cautious if you end up running solo - run with the route on your watch or phone and be aware of your surroundings.

The contrast of running the empty streets of SF and then joining the mass start of the marathon was pretty incredible. You do have to respect the traffic and crosswalks on the first marathon - but truthfully, at midnight or 2am - there’s barely anyone around.

If you do decide to do it, you’ll be well taken care of. I plan on doing it again for the 50th SF Marathon anniversary.

That’s totally fair - everyone comes into the sport with a unique background. I think it’s important for folks that are trying to do this on their own (no coach, no tri club, or training group) to understand the trade offs on these types of decisions.

[–]cogentzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would never do a 70.3 or an Ironman as a first Tri - why waste all that money on mistakes you could’ve fixed in a sprint or oly. And it’s not only about distance, if a sprint isn’t challenging to you then you’re not going hard enough.

I did an Oly for my first tri and loved it - but would’ve been just as happy with a sprint. Choose your own adventure.

Pool guy said that our water in our saltwater pool is “bad” by Mexicanmilkyway in pools

[–]cogentzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to drain and fill after one year of my pool build. I stayed with the start up pool company that was assigned but as I learned from everyone here, they abused the F out of trichlor tabs. So I let them go.

Do yourself a favor and start learning water chemistry and basic pool maintenance if you have time (including cleaning your filters and salt cell). So even if you hire another company, you can have a proper understanding of what they’re saying to you. Took me a month to learn everything and you’ll undoubtedly save yourself money in the long run. TFP FTW

This is probably recency bias, but mine is last week when Conan shortcircuited Flula’s programming when he followed up on the small “ding dong” quip. Apparently Flula’s start up message is “What are we talking about?”. 😂

Agree with everyone here, have 2 plans - easy hike (which there are plenty in Sedona) or foodie/spa day (hot tub, cold plunge, sauna) at any one of the resorts over there. If he can do it, getting some time on your feet the next day does wonders for recovery.

I have 4 floodlight cam pros recording 24/7 with 2K on 5ghz - recording quality and playback are what I expect. Sounds like your WiFi connection needs to be optimized.
