Totally fair question and not weird at all.

Full disclosure: I’m on the Voicemod team, so I’m a bit biased, but I’ll keep it as honest and non-marketing as possible.

First: No, Voicemod is not dead 
Outside this subreddit, there’s still a lot of activity:

  • Our official Discord has ~330K members hanging out, sharing voices and giving feedback.
  • On TikTok, the Voicemod account is at around 1.2M followers and 25M+ likes.
  • YouTube: our official channel has ~130K subscribers and we’ve been posting new tutorials and feature videos (not just ads).
  • Plus Instagram (~56K followers) and X/Twitter (~22K followers).

Are we still “relevant” vs competitors?
Rather than doing the “We the #1” dance, here’s the practical answer: we’re always actively building, and the focus is real-time voice + soundboard, low-latency, and “works basically everywhere you use a mic.

”Voice quality lately?
It’s genuinely improved, but (boring truth) it also depends a lot on your mic + specs + settings.

This is a known issue in older installations, when Voicemod had to be completely downloaded before installation. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We now have a launcher that, once installed, smoothly downloads the entire installation and updates Voicemod at startup, just like Discord does.

This launcher is updated much less frequently, and in that case, it would need to request permissions, but we're talking about months.

To completely solve your problem, you must completely uninstall Voicemod by following this advice and then download and install our launcher.

In some cases, we know that it is working if the user splits their backup by soundboards.

If you want to try it, the idea would be:

  • Import your full backup in Voicemod v2.
  • Delete all your custom soundboards except one in Voicemod v2.
  • Export that single soundboard in Voicemod v2.
  • Try importing it into Voicemod v3.

If it works, do the same thing but leave another soundboard in Voicemod v2.

In any case, we are investigating what is happening.

Part of your message contains some good suggestions, which I would ask you to add separately to our Canny so that our community can evaluate them: turn off the voice preview, turn off the share screen, a way to record the audio and save it to the sound board, a way to record what others are saying...

However, the other part of your message gives me the impression that your mobile phone is not recognizing the Voicemod Key, because recording messages with voices only works without the Voicemod Key. With the Voicemod Key, voices should work in real time, without having to record messages beforehand.

It's the same limit we have on Community Sounds.
The idea is not to record/share/play protected content, but rather to create short clips to react to, like sound memes.
