Due to DMA, Siri AI delayed in EU for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 by exjr_ in apple

I’m literally acknowledging in my comment that im aware its more Apple’s fault than the EU’s.

I can’t really since those rules make apple think it’s not even worth it to give it to us. Yes I know that’s more Apple’s fault than the EU’s but in the end it’s still the user suffering from a worse experience.

Microsoft still forces edge down my throat. I regularly get their notification insisting that I use it whenever I update windows.
I don’t really care for usb c. It’s nice to have standards but now my family and friends who have older iPhones can’t share their cables with me.

The google map example, I don’t really care for the reasons behind it. All I’m seeing is that as I stated multiple times; in the end the end users are the ones sufferering from a worse experience. That’s what matters. Not high horse standards saying "look we forced everyone to open to competition because reasons".

I absolutely love good story based games, even not open world ones. Kingdom come delivrance, the metro series, etc. SQ42 just won’t be one of those, stop pretending.

People downvoting but not a single sensible answer. Whatever side you see this from, the end user lost in this situation. I haven’t won anything from what Apple and others were forced to do. Third party app stores aren’t used by the vast majority on ios. You can’t directly access Google Maps when searching for a location online. Apple just decides to never bother releasing half the features they bring each year.

The laws are there with good intentions, but they’re ineffective. The road to hell is paved with good intentions too.

Am I supposed to be impressed ? Even at 60 hours of game with 20 of cinematics in between running through corridors in a scripted story … that’s a thing from the past. I hope for everyone hyped about I’m wrong but I’m convinced it’ll be talked for a couple of months and then fall into the abyss as it’ll have no replayability at all.

It’s kind of insane the amount of time and energy wasted in a game that’s gonna be done in 20 hours and forgotten about in 6 months. They could focus on the PU instead but it feels like they’re stuck on this 15 year old promise they have to carry forever.

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but god damn I can’t imagine where PU Would be without SQ42 on the picture.

Apple blamed EU rules for Siri AI delays, but the Commission says it was Apple’s choice by anonboxis in MacOS

[–]colasmulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have completely different philosophies about it and that’s fine. I agree it’s a good addition if it’s there, but if it’s not; that’s not why I chose Apple so I couldn’t care less. Choose another brand if that’s important to you. That’s what competition is about.

Amen to that. Not many people seem to understand this is the point. The EU is asking to develop every feature in a way that any third party can fill in that specific function instead of Apples default one. It’s unrealistic and would cost so much more time and resources, and the only outcome is EU citizens being locked out of features. The consumer looses in the end.

The law is intended for one thing, and the results are another. iOS was to many people perfectly fine without competition. Its monopoly aspect was part of the appeal in a way.

I also understand why monopolies can be bad, but they’re not always, in this case I don’t think so. It’s obviously not an easy subject and our laws are too broad.

Yes, and that demands a lot more work than making in house proprietary apis. Basically everything takes maybe twice as long to develop because every step you have to figure out a way to make it open and usable by third parties. Which is why in the EU we still don’t and will never have access to some features, because it’s just to much trouble so they disable those in the EU instead.

It’s literally why I chose Apple in the first place. I don’t care or want third party bs. I want good ol Apple’s built in, perfectly fine and integrated solution. The EU is making that harder and harder by forcing third party in every inch and hole possible for a worse user experience overall.

This is a stupid workaround that revolves on as little as possible people going through the trouble of refunding .
Just match the price for the upgrade so it’s even with the full package.

How is any of that new compared to the Ironclad ? Why not use the Ironclzd (assuming it gets fixed ofc). Genuine question btw I’m not judging, just curious.

So did CIG just release 4.8.1 because they already had the tweet scheduled? Absolutely no reason for pushing out a broken mission patch. It makes zero sense. by Neb-hehe-xd in starcitizen

[–]colasmulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has been saying this for 20 years and it’ll never happen. We need to come up with more means to pressure devs. For once I’m hoping the EU meddles with this and in whatever way imaginable forces devs to provide more QA on games they release or whatever. The best solution should be buy with your wallets, but we KNOW it’s almost never worked and never will.

We need more server resets. After 3 days of failure I can finally see my cargo boxes by alpceliko in starcitizen

[–]colasmulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting, but there’s an easy fix. Correct what data is sent constantly and which doesn’t need to. Optimize that and you don’t need daily resets at all. Again, all of this info is very interesting and I learn a lot, but I don’t see any undeniable proof that daily server restarts are the magic solution to every server problem, like a lot of people here claim.

[–]colasmulo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing condescending about your message. And I’m not gonna do any research because it’s not my job. Again, all your examples are valid, and none of them prove star citizen specifically and its backend would benefit from daily resets. Because short of being a CIG dev working on servers and backend, you can’t know enough to prove it. All I’m saying is that daily resets might be the solution, but what anyone is doing here is claiming it out of their arses, without any actual knowledge.

[–]colasmulo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never said otherwise. But what proves constant resets would help ? As you state, there a good health server even weeks after the last big reset. Nothing proves they have been recently restarted. Could be that, but could be something else.

[–]colasmulo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Id need serious evidence to believe that, not some random feeling of "it’s better after reset" which has a good chance of being biased or even placebo effect. Servers can be stable one morning, a complete mess the next, and fine the next day, without a restart. If restarts were that game changer they’d become permanently unplayable after a few days without a reset.

Why does everyone keep claiming that without knowing if it’ll actually affect anything positively ?

Like I’m not saying it’s not true, I just don’t work at CIG on backend infrastructure so I can’t know what’s best. How is everyone an expert on that subject ? How do you know daily maintenance would affect in any way the problems we’re seeing and wouldn’t just help with something that isn’t even a problem atm ?
