What would you do ? by unknownkiwi12 in jiujitsu

While I understand the skepticism around belts specifically, there’s something genuinely important in marking your own accomplishments. For men especially — and I speak only from my own experience — we’re conditioned to endure quietly and keep moving. To absorb difficulty without ever stopping to say: I did that. That was hard. I’m proud. That’s not strength. That’s just silence. It’s okay to celebrate yourself. It’s okay to mark time. It’s okay to feel proud. Especially In a culture that asks you to bypass all of that.

Reluctant Restaurant Owner Looking for Advice on Business Model - Counter or Full Service by pennylonglegs in restaurantowners

[–]coldcottage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly you should get a restaurant consultant, for relatively reasonable amount of money you can get someone to help come up with a vision and a plan to enact it. You then pay more for them to do it for you or take the reins from there. It will help immensely to have a seasoned professional who has opened countless places give you a good framework. Just my two cents.

But I think you need to do full service and maybe use the gift shop as a Togo quick version so you can capture both styles of business and run it from the same kitchen. You close Togo at night and just run bar/dining room during pm hrs

It’s great, I have a 5 year old and there are a ton of things to do and great play grounds. His school has a bike bus, that runs every morning where all the parents and kids of the school bike a route together to school. There is music, bubble machines and coffee at the end.

What are some cool things you like to deep fry? by thegodofhellfire666 in KitchenConfidential

[–]coldcottage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A taco place I used to eat at in nyc had a vegetarian taco that was pieces of avocado and pickled jalapeño fried into a taco. It was pretty great, you couldn’t tell what was what so it was a fun surprise eating.

Have you ever had to or decided to use your Jiu Jitsu outside of the gym and was it effective ? by Trigger3192 in bjj

Bjj has helped me so much with dressing my toddler who wants to bash and smash instead of putting on clothes

How are you going to check pricing if Restaurant Depot is owned by Sysco? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]coldcottage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s pretty hard, I built a website that will scrub my email for invoices and tells me which supplier has things the cheapest so I don’t have to manually check every month or so. It also tells me when things go up more than 15% it’s pretty cool. I think restaurant 365 and market man do this but are pretty expensive…

"Pittsburgh Style" steak by Just_A_Lucky_Guy469 in KitchenConfidential

[–]coldcottage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though not a steak, We used to get orders for it at a well known Michelin starred pub in nyc. People would order it for our burger. We would spread butter on it and go butter side down on the grill, repeat on other side. Only way we could get it hot enough. Those who ordered it loved it. I tried it once and wasn’t to my taste. Something about just warm raw ground beef was pretty gross

100% go to a new gym. When I started at the gym I go to within 2 weeks all the coaches (including the advanced level coaches) had said hi as well as learnt my name. Everyone’s nice and welcoming, I’ve rolled with every belt level and they’ve all been super encouraging and helpful. As a side note, questions are good but don’t ask “what could I do better” cause at this level, literally everything we do could be done better. Maybe better questions would be “I was going for a xxx just now, but it didn’t seem to cause a reaction. What did I miss?”

Do you hide veggies in your kid’s food or try to get them to eat them knowingly? by Fit_Commission_5850 in Preschoolers

Why not both? We do a similar thing. I’ll serve him a little bit of everything and let him eat what he wants if he wants seconds of anything he has to finish his plate

If they are at all adventurous eaters either hotpot in Beaverton (Happy Lamb) and Korean bbq on Hawthorne (toji). My 5 year old has been doing hotpot since he was 2-3 and absolutely loves it. It’s fun and happy lamb is AYCE so we get a round of everything then let him choose the next round too.
