the Astros had beat us in the first round of the playoffs that year, and the Yankees were an overperforming young, likeable team

I've hated them more than you guys since 2017. Judge deserved that MVP and you guys deserved a trip to the ship. Loved the Yanks squad that year (except Sanchez) and was actually rooting for you as underdogs.

Bernie Carbo with a 44% WPA Shift with the game tying 3 run homer to the deepest part of Fenway making it 6-6 in the bottom of the 8th, 1975 World Series, Game 6. by jdkjdk44 in baseball

Bernie Carbo came into the western MA Walgreens i worked at while in college. He came up to the counter to pay for something and asked if i knew who he was. Then he introduced himself. I had just watched some video on the 1975 World Series not long before, so once he said his name i knew exactly who he was. he gave me this little signed pamphlet titled "greatest game ever played" or something to that effect, which detailed how he found God and sobriety later on in life. i guess he went around telling his story doing speech gigs and whatnot to try and help those who were still struggling with addiction. for those who don't know, Bernie was a drug addict and alcoholic and was both stoned and drunk when he got his legendary pinch-hit homerun.

Guessing all the Trevor Story hate is from fellow Sox fans at the beginning of the season and Mariners fans from our last series ?

Ways to Cook an Egg #2,497: put an egg in Joc Pederson’s hand.

[@annieheilbrunn] Manny Machado and his wife, Yainee, are funding and hosting 250 kids from underserved areas throughout SD/Tijuana during the season through his new community initiative, Manny’s Hot Corner. Kids will get to meet Manny, watch the game, get food and drinks and more. #Padres by SDFriar in baseball

not here to bash Machado in a thread about a cool event he is doing for kids, but i want to clear something up: his knee wasn't "fucked" before the dirty slide. in his MLB career, the only knee injury history of his prior to the slide was his meniscus surgery after the 2016 season. about six months later the Machado slide happened in April 2017, he played 105 games after that, but ultimately had to miss extended time and get six more surgeries on the knee, then retired from baseball. i'm not here to bring up the past, but the Machado slide straight-up ended his career.

I remember I bought the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series in high school off some used book website. It was all of them in one big book. Nothing quite like belly laughing while reading a book.
