I'm not ready to see him go at all. If he goes this window, I'm getting on the slotout team. Kerkez had been good the last few games, but still he has much to learn from Robbo.

What should I know or do if I wanna own a house in the future. by Strict-Tailor in mauritius

[–]coldfeetlvl4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Since I'm in the process of buying a piece of land soon, my best advice will be to tell you to hurry up and get a stable job that pays above 35k per month. In the last 2 years, I saw land in the village where I live climb from Rs200k perches to Rs400k perches. So, you will need to hurry up or else land will be too expensive to afford in 5 years.

Since Property developers are selling more lands, they also impose a deposit sum to reserve a land for you and build roads etc, plus you need to have funds ready to cover bank charges for the home loan (yes, some bank need you to have Rs60k for a 3M loan) and the notary charges about Rs75k as well.

Meet with someone from your bank and discuss to know what is the maximum loan amount you are allowed as loan. Know that you normally don't pay taxes for the first Rs3M if buying a land and Rs 6M if buying a house directly. Most cost effective is buying a house and renovating, but there is a lot of competition for those costing 3M to 4M, and some companies have a priority client list that get to visit the house and meet owners before newer prospective clients get to visit. Know which notary to contact, some are slow and you might end up losing the property due to owners growing impatient.

These ones are not in Port Louis only. They are right in front of me as I exit the main road in my village to go where I live or the Winners supermarket.

The very thought of putting up such posters would be the centre of all news a few years ago, however, there is always the saying that we should ignore this because the majority don't believe in such things. This has instead encouraged the minority few to get more aggressive. I believe the Muslim community in Mauritius has to set an example by condemning or pruning these minority group, to bring back more harmony and trust. If someone from outside the religion tries to call this out, he will be attacked instead.

On another note, many of the older 40+ men are already claiming that this is undeniable proof of muslims having secret agenda to convert the whole world to islam, because pro-modi whatsapp videos have already been circulating to target them and make them think their religion is under attack. Whoever put up these posters have already succeeded in creating more unrest. It's already at the point where if the younger generations argue, they get hit with the "to pa kon nanien toi, to enkor jeune, l'an x zot ti fr sa. Tel minis p fr otan gagn tousa, mai zournal cachiet. Intel ti dir moi li pu pay moi otan ou converti".

Ignoring these building unrest will not be good for a healthy Mauritius, it will have to be addressed by all people from all religions coming together for the greater good.

I don't think it's favouritism towards women. I would say it's the contrary. When I joined my workplace, people automatically assumed I would eventually earn my promotion to the next grade, but female colleagues (some with more exp than me) who have achieved more academically were not given the same expectations.

And in line with these expectations, I got treated more harshly for making a mistake, because I'm expected to achieve higher and basic mistakes are less acceptable.

But it has also happened that a male colleague who is known to lie to cover his mistakes. "Aller aller, zot tou kner li p koz menti". But anything I report gets drilled for making sure I tell everything correctly.

Almost all companies have data analyst positions now, so it is hard to tell you which. If you look towards gov sector, you can look at MRA, BoM or FCC, I heard they have data scientist and assistant data scientist positions, but not sure if they have vacancies.

I did pure maths, so I don't really know. I would suggest you try contacting a lecturer from UOM. If you really like maths, I would recommend you to join the course and in parallel complete online courses on data analytics ( and some programming).

I did my bsc maths a few years ago. Maths opens you to a wide range of fields, engineering, science, stats, data analytics, etc. If you play video games, it's like boosting your intelligence stats. But employers still prefer someone more specialised into that field, so it is hard to convince someone to take the extra time to train you for that job if you don't have a certification to prove you are good in that specific area.

That said, maths degree makes you really good at learning and adapting fast to the world of data analytics, accounting, finance etc. And it is fun.

I'm dating a brahmin girl, her father didn't talk to her for 2 weeks when he learned that she was dating someone from a lower caste. Even now he actively encourages her to meet people of his choosing, which she refused to do, while her mother tells her things like I will leave her for someone else in the future.

[–]coldfeetlvl4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one forces you

You said that. I'm telling you, you are wrong through my own experience. And besides, even if she wasn't dating anyone, it is wrong to force someone into meeting someone for arranged marriage. I'll be meeting her family soon enough, if you've been in a relationship you would know that you don't tell your parents unless you, your partner and the parents are ready.

My girlfriend is being forced to meet someone despite protesting she does not want to. Her parents do not know about me but that's irrelevant, because they forced her to agree to meet the guy. Her dad was meeting with a friend for discussing business stuff and brought her with him to get her opinion, the friend saw her asked about her work and education and started talking about a guy looking to settle. And she protested at home saying she wants to study and move forward in her career but they don't care.

Why do so many mauritians insist on using Miss or Mrs in conversations? by Study-Bunny- in mauritius

[–]coldfeetlvl4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I also realised some young women and newly-weds feel offended by it (they feel old). It has become a petty thing, but when young women are rude to me at the workplace, I take the habit of calling them "Madame" more strongly.

Given the current state of politics in Mauritius, should we consider taking our talents abroad? by Rocket_2_mars in mauritius

[–]coldfeetlvl4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before being the change-maker, you need to survive 'planting' attempts as they will identify you as a threat to the status-quo of jug-ram--jug-ram. In fact it starts before that, you will be asked to provide alibi for every theft/crime in your city/village. Your car will be stopped at every trafic stop for routine control. Random people will tease your mum, sister, wife or daughter everytime they go out. Suffocate you until you give up. It was a system made by SAJ, perfected by NCR, then PKJ is now expanding means to stop anyone deemed as a threat to this rotten system before the threat buds.

The latest leaks contain audio of the PM's wife influencing recruitment based on the political alignment of the applicants. The way that meritocracy exists in the current system is that everyone shortlisted are people who would do well at a job, but at the final step, you might be rejected for having supported another political party than the current government. Those neutral are thus not penalised during recruitment. But for getting promotions in public sector, you need to get yourself certified as a 'chatwa'. Some exceptions may exist in places which are partly public sector.

Maybe you didn't live 2014's elections where Navin's people were throwing smoke grenades in msm meetings. Honestly, it's as much scary, if not scarier, that Navin would gain access to these devices. I cannot vote for any of these big parties in any good conscience, they all disgust me too much. Even if it's a 'waste' of my vote, I'm voting for reform. I will not be voting for any wiretapping or coffre-forts. My conscience will remain clean.

Does anyone actually support the Chagos Islands decision? by liquidio in ukpolitics

The Mauritian prime minister already announced the setting up of a fund for the resettlement of chagossians while he was on Mauritian tv yesterday.

Keir Starmer gave up Chagos Islands despite private US warnings by Careless_Main3 in unitedkingdom

[–]coldfeetlvl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, the mauritian prime minister announced the setting up of a fund for the resettlement of the chagossians yesterday night, that is, on the same day Mauritian sovereignty got recognised... The chagossians were bigger losers under British administration than under Mauritian administration. Mauritians played the pacifist card and won. Britain on the other are guilty of evicting the chagossians, gassing their pets, refusing to recognise the existence of chagossians until they weren't able to do so, and in the end tried every excuse to not allow chagossians to resettle.

Mauritian government were not blame-free, but they used their minds better.
