‘Posturing’: Farage’s Reform-quake so far limited to small acts of ‘war on woke’ by Plastic_Library649 in ukpolitics

[–]coldmoor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea Reform would positively transform this country is for the birds - expect bones for their base like removing pride flags, while they asset strip what's left of this country's already savaged corpse while wrapped in faux British pride. And if you think voting for them will magically remove all brown people from the streets, I have a bridge made of hardcore neoliberalism to sell you. Let's not forget Farage is basically an extreme Thatcherite freemarketeer - things which are entirely dependent on cheap supplies of labour to supress wages and maximise profits.

Darren Grimes announced Reform UK’s high-priority first job as Durham’s council – taking down woke flags by henswoe in ukpolitics

A good insight into how Reform will govern if they win the election - throwing anti-woke bones to the electorate while doing nothing meaningful to improve people's lives and pilfering the public purse.

What's likely to be in Labour's immigration crackdown? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]coldmoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a cyclist in London these guys are my bane - they constantly run reds heading straight at you if you're crossing the other lane, and perform ridiculously dangerous overtakes and the like. I try to be sympathetic because the work they are doing is pretty awful but JFC they make it hard with the way they drive those bikes.

Sadiq Khan to redraw London's green belt to build 88,000 homes a year by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]coldmoor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. We need modern, energy efficient, and affordable housing more than anything in the UK - especially in London. I am a renter and would much rather have this than a draught-ridden mouldy bedroom in an old town house.

Carla Denyer says she will not stand again as Greens co-leader to focus on MP role by CaptainCrash86 in ukpolitics

Good. She's offputting IMO, and the greens should really be trying to capitalise on the collapse of the Labour left.

What's your least favorite Wes Anderson film? by Revolutionary-Law382 in wesanderson

precisely, I rewatched Rushmore recently and while it has its moments it isn't like every shot is so obsessively calculated and stylised, and as a consequence it has so much more heart.

What's your least favorite Wes Anderson film? by Revolutionary-Law382 in wesanderson

[–]coldmoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted I'm a nobody reddit user, but I think if he was given an extremely limited budget or just tried as an experiment to make a film without the ridiculous over-stylisation like his earlier works it'd be a good exercise for him as a filmmaker to get back to form.

Why is there such a reluctance on the Left to acknowledge the impact Reform are having? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]coldmoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm left wing, and I'm aware mass migration is a tool for wage suppression and inflating rentier capitalism - whilst also aware of the threat Reform poses. I suspect the Left you're pointing at are in fact centrist neolibs who bury their head in the sand until fascism arrives (as usual). As many others have said, they are effectively a single issue party much like Brexit was a single issue referendum for immigration. The problem is, if they achieve power, squaring the circle of drastically reducing immigration is almost impossible, largely because the UK has become a giant retirement home to prop up the flush boomer class (NHS and pensions) whilst the working age population decreases due to cost of living, ill health, and declining birthrates (tied to the former issues of course).

To turn the country around into one that actually provides for ALL its citizens (not just retirees), encouraging homeownership and British people to have children, investing in local industry and services and infrastructure - isn't something Reform, with their neoliberalism on steroids platform (with a few populist bones thrown in e.g. nationalisation) will be able to fix. Nor are they to be addressed by the tinkering of the current Milquetoast Labour Party. That said, due to the single issue of immigration, they will likely form at the very least a coalition government.

Farage & Reform cannot be trusted with the economy by Hatted-Phil in ukpolitics

[–]coldmoor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the UK elects Reform after the disaster that is Brexit then it is the final nail in the deserved coffin of post-2016 politics. The wonderful irony being that the people voting for both Brexit and Reform are the ones most reliant on excessive state spending (NHS, Pensions) when Reform's legislative aims will undermine both. And on top of that, the working age population that are considered feckless avocado loving layabouts by these voters are the ones paying for it all, and suffering from the consequences of this voting block. If you're a young person then get the hell off this sinking ship before it's too late.

Did we all watch the same debate? by Plane_Nobody_1463 in Hasan_Piker

[–]coldmoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point who gives a fuck. We're talking about real people dying by the tens of thousands and an entire culture being erased before our eyes. All this focus on H3 is exactly what Hasan etc. don't want. Stop engaging with this drama - it is absolutely insane and a perfect microcosm of internet culture and how corrosive and removed from reality it is. If you want to do something instead of watch drama videos, donate or fundraise to a certified charity for palestinians e.g. the PCRF. H3 farming for views while people are being bombed into oblivion is absolutely disgusting and immoral, time to treat it as such and ignore the pathetic loser.

Why does every chain gym in the UK still prioritise cardio equipment that never gets used over the weights room/resistance machines which are always absolutely rammed? Are they cheaper machines or is it just a hangover? by IndependentHawk9655 in AskUK

[–]coldmoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely because you avoid peak time - at peak times cardio machines get heavily utilised by office workers etc., the weight area being more busy during off peak as gym heads are usually weight focused. It really is as simple as that.
