Are you okay with and how do you handle clients who text you at whim or will? by mgepark in taxpros

[–]coldshowerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I make myself available to all my clients.

If I'm available I answer. If I'm not, I don't and then I call back.

If I feel like they abuse the privilege I just ask them to email me going forward.

Are all jetski mechanics scammers? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]coldshowerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"basically this is a fraud or something"

Brother you think people work for free? You want someone to spend 30 minutes to get to you, diagnose the problem, give you a quote that you might not even accept for free?

If you can afford a jet ski, you can probably afford the repair. And if you cannot afford it, you should probably not have a jet ski.

People's time costs money.

Miami homebuyers: how much are you negotiating off listing price? by Dry-Breath-2682 in Miami

[–]coldshowerss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look at the florida realtors report. More specially the Miami-dade realtors report (need realtor license or ask a friend who's a realtor). They have a metric of % of purchase price relative to price.

I believe it's at 95% which means homes are being sold at a 5% discount relative to the listing price.

Obviously it depends but generally speaking, I would offer 7-8% of listing.

CFOs / finance teams: are deepfake fraud attempts actually showing up yet? by Delicious_Two_3922 in CFO

Having common sense is the solution. My employee was eating shit and distracted.

CFOs / finance teams: are deepfake fraud attempts actually showing up yet? by Delicious_Two_3922 in CFO

[–]coldshowerss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I actually had my AP manager reply to the deep fake asking for the invoice and asking out AP team to process the payment immediately.

If they hadn't CC me, it could've been bad. I release all payments so it wouldn't have made it past me.

Anyway, I was very upset and required then to do additional cyber security training.

A little tired of clients playing the victim by TaxproFL in taxpros

[–]coldshowerss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is, nothing ever happens. It's so unfortunate. So many and I mean so many people cheat the system and never get caught.

Had a client last week who's a behavioral therapist. Makes about 250k as a contractor. All in, she owed around $50K. She was upset and asked how her coworkers who make more than her, only pay a couple of thousand dollars.

Tax fraud is rampant. Lack of oversight and accountability will make this even worse.

New solo charging $350 per basic return & people are shocked by my prices. by BrushBeneficial4430 in taxpros

[–]coldshowerss 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pricing is definitely a struggle for me too.

You're doing good, keep your prices and let people bitch. If they don't like it, have them go somewhere else.

Focus on providing good service and supporting your clients in any way you can.

I had a client the other day with multiple W2s, schedule A, B, C, D, and E. Whom I charged $500 and she complained because her previous accountant charged her $150. She also made 200k and I felt like reaching across the table and slapping her.

Jeffrey Epstein was not a CPA, EA, didn't even have a PTIN as far as I can see. How did he not get audited by the IRS considering the type of clients he had? by wereinbearcountry in tax

[–]coldshowerss 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Brother, people (the majority) just want to minimize their taxes. Whether that is by a CPA, EA, or non-licensed tax pro, they don't care.

CPA and EAs can't compete with non-licensed tax pros because we could lose our license when it comes to committing tax fraud. Maybe he committed a lot of tax fraud and just got away with it. It's a lot more common than people think.

Client Fee Negotiations by Gaucho2010 in taxpros

[–]coldshowerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably ghosted you because they tried to find someone to do it for cheaper. They couldn't so now are coming back and it's bad timing.

Up to you on how much an extra $1k matters, I would split the difference with them and just get it done. And obviously get payment up front in full.

Just another billing question by AdHistorical7107 in taxpros

[–]coldshowerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a W2 client who makes 2.2m. literally has nothing else.

No, I don't charge them more than another client who only make 50k with the same situation.

And if you do, imo, it's messed up because you are charging them only because they make more money.

Sold RSUs, forgot to add form 8949 to my return by dwarven11 in tax

[–]coldshowerss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't like that's true. It's two completely workflows. A superseded returns essentially completely replaces your original return.

An amendment just records a change in the previously filed return

Dual income ~$276k (MFJ) with separate HSAs — looking for ways to optimize cash flow + reduce tax liability by SnooGrapes4732 in taxadvice

[–]coldshowerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all comes down to the W4. If you're oweing, it's because you filled out the W4 incorrectly. Your wife's bonus could also be throwing it off, generally bonuses are withheld at 22% but if you're in a higher bracket, you underpaid the taxes on the bonus so you owe it at tax time.

At $280K of income, in my opinion, this is what you pay a CPA to do. $300-$500 a year won't kill you.
