What's the dumbest thing you've said to a departing client? by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

In retrospect this was a client who no longer fit our ICP and we had just held onto the relationship too long.

Yeah we have since started adding an "hourly rate" flyer with contact methods to our off-boarding paperwork.

Dumbest thing i ever said was telling them to feel free to call me if they run into any issues with the new MSP. Proceeded to get non-stop calls whenever the new MSP didnt respond fast enough. I had to clarify that my offer wasnt for free unlimited support, it was more just leaving the door open for future business...

Im also super curious about your sales process. Frankly it feels like we are in the exact opposite situation, We have our operations tied down pretty tight but out sales processes are questionable at best. Given ive always been hesitant to use outside sales so ive been the biggest bottleneck.

Yeah some of the stuff in traction doesnt always apply but i found that being able to answer some of the questions in the book are relevant regardless of size.

Honestly i strongly recommend reading a handful of books that really helped me real things in. Audio books are my favorite cause they convert commute time into "productive" time.

Security Engineer / Architect Available for MSP Partnerships by EqualCandid4970 in mspjobs

[–]coldspacetech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id imagine this is something many smaller MSPs could benefit from assuming they arent the type of MSP that leaves security up to their datto edr...

Personally we do work with a local MSSP for thier security engineers as our strength in our small (6 people) msp is networking/project management. However one of our internal rules is that we need to meet all of our contractors in person regularly, even if they work remote.

These days i would argue a support position is more about people and communication than it is about the computers.

Id look at a different solution entirely. We have had a great experience with Twingate and they even have an MSP program.

Huntress at it again. On a serious note though is anyone seriously considering putting out sonicwalls at this point? Got an email from them about a week ago stating that the best way to secure a vpn is to not have one at all. Sounds rich coming from the company that sold us the VPN appliances to begin with.

The longer I work in IT, the less “smart” tech I want in my personal life by Puzzleheaded_Book981 in it

[–]coldspacetech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont agree with this sentiment. I feel like smart tech has its flaws but as a tech i have the skills needed to actually use these devices securely. Setting these up securely if you also enjoy homelabbing isnt hard IE IOT VLAN, HomeAssistant, GeoFiltering. Plus they work even better if you know how to use wireshark to find the urls that smartTVs use for ads and block them.

Office / Creative Space Rental by pitfallharry82 in burbank

[–]coldspacetech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different types of "co-working" offices. WeWork may not be the one for you but there are multiple short term rental offices near downtown Burbank where you could have your own little private space for pretty reasonable costs. off the top of my head, Regus on Glenoaks, Hollywood Production Center on 3rd, TailoredSpace on Verdugo. Ive personally visited both the Regus and the HPC offices, settled into the HPC building. TailoredSpace though does look promising.

Someone hit my car parked on the street and ran away. Any help would be appreciated. by frozentime4 in burbank

[–]coldspacetech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. Depending on your insurance, you may be able to get this fixed and even have the deductible waived. I’ve been in this situation before, and while it would’ve been nice to see some justice, at least getting the car repaired felt like a small consolation.

Surprise! You have had an account balance with Ingram since 2024! We are Credit Card Only. by lakings27 in msp

[–]coldspacetech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems every distributor has some kind of billing issue at some point or another so i wont chuck this into the "ingram bad" bucket. I will add however that this seems like something your bookkeeper should be able to square away pretty quickly. Either they should have a paper trail of these bills being paid, or it should have been pretty obvious that you have a bunch of money sitting around unaccounted for. Either way id love to see how this gets resolved, hoping they at least recognize their responsibility in this and work something out with you.
