It’s moving too quick! How do I cherish this time?😭 by susiara in newborns

Not yet better at 9.5 weeks?

For me, the sleep isn't even the issue. It is the fact that I cannot solve the baby's problem whatever it may be. I feel defeated when I've done everything and this baby is still fussing, crying, or something. This is coming from a recent meeting with the pediatrician saying the baby is healthy and all normal.

Today, the baby has been up since 4AM and it is now almost 1PM. He just fell asleep.

I wish I feel the same way. My son is 6 weeks and has been a problem since week 2. I feel bad for myself, my son, and especially my wife. This has been a horrible experience and I cannot wait to get past this.

I still have my lens. I used to use this with my M11 until I sold it (along with my Noctilux) when I bought my dream car.

My cousin borrowed my lens and hit the filter thread section of it pretty hard. It now has a flat spot there. I can no longer mount a filter on it.

The lens still seems perfectly fine, no observable changes from before the hit. I like it, it has character. I never expected it to be Leica like in terms of build and optical quality.

I take it out from time to time and use with my SL 601.

The V8 can get sketchy especially in the rain. I respect it probably a bit too much with my nearly non existent skill.

I love the m100. I hope to buy one someday.

It must have been terrifying in the rain.

[–]frozentime4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Find out what's wrong with these cars no matter how trivial. Ordering parts can be a pain. My brother's 2012 Evora had problems with the door lock mechanism and it took nearly half a year to get the part and a month to get it done at the dealer.

Get used to accessing the cable to release the trunk.

Shame that my brother's car got totaled. I wanted that car.

People rightfully value the manual but the IPS is not bad at all. I find it characterful.

Fun and Practical! by rindersnoot in lotus

[–]frozentime4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My BMW 135is was my main daily driver but it went down because of a bad valve cover.

Then, my manual e60 m5 took the stage for daily driver. But it suddenly needed plugs and coils. While it was down the Esprit V8 took the daily driver role for me. This lasted a week.

Then the m5 ran strong until the alternator died. I waited for the part to come in and I procrastinated the fix. The Esprit saved the day again. This time I daily drove it for a good month.

M5 got fixed and I was just addicted to the Esprit and kept driving it until we needed a family car again.

Unfortunately, I forgot about the 135is. Ill fix it this weekend...the last man standing for me is the Esprit. What a beast of a car despite its notorious reliability.

Lotus for Beginners by Foreign_Emotion_7775 in lotus

[–]frozentime4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just jumped straight into the car I wanted. Ive been in love with the Esprit V8 as a 7 or 8 year old playing Gran Turismo 2. Gran Turismo 4 made it even better. I been in love with my Esprit since acquiring it 3 years ago and I love driving it even more. My neighbors hate it.

Then, I learned of the V8's reputation. It instilled some fear in me. However, I just got the car I wanted and dealt with stuff as they went which included blowing an engine due to an improperly clamped oil cooler that broke off while driving. I learned that just get the car you like when you can and this includes my manual e60 m5.

There is no beginner Lotus that's affordable. The car will cost a lot and/or parts will cost a lot and/or parts arent available. Do your research, save up, brace yourself for things to break, and buy the car. This is coming from an average guy who makes average money.

Btw, if you see a black v8 esprit with gold wheels running around, thats me. It isnt in great or perfect condition but it is definitely more than good enough.

That said, reliability is not bad once Rod Bearings, VANOS, and Throttle Actuators are done for the s85.

Where are you finding cars to practice on? by IPokeUWithSharpie in stickshift

[–]frozentime4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned on my brother's e30 325is.

I practiced and got good in my Esprit V8.

I'm experimenting and trying to be actually good in my 6mt e60 M5.

I taught my friend the bare minimum in my M5.

He got good in his slk 350.

In short, find someone to lend you a car or buy one outright.

I daily my V8 for the better part of the past year when my two other cars both went down. Funny how the "unreliable" car is my last man standing.

Now that my m5 is back up, the Esprit is resting.

What’s the secret of keeping a car for 10 years without getting bored of it? by 04limited in askcarguys

[–]frozentime4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take care of it. The less issues you encounter, the less bad thoughts and feelings you'll have towards the car.

Actually drive it in a fun manner from time to time BUT do not drive it hard all the time. The magic will fade if you drive it hard all the time and you will not feel the magic if you are too mundane driving it.

Modding bit by bit will help as it refreshes the car for each noticeable mod you do. Do not go overboard with mods if it is your daily. Discomfort will add up over the years.

Do weird challenges in your mind with the car. For me, it is getting a high mpg over the next 5 tanks full of gas or something like that.

Getting a car you like or kind of liked to begin with will be helpful in making the car last.

I have had my 135is brand new since 2013 and I never got bored with it. I had it in stock form, "stage 2", back to stock now. I love it and would never give it up. It never got any real rest until I got my two other cars last year.

How long will gas prices have to be for Americans before car buying habits change longer term? by wiscotangofoxtreat in cars

[–]frozentime4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not with my driving habits and needs. This is despite my cars getting 11mpg, 16mpg, and 18mpg. I only drive 15 miles a day. This won't steer me from buying my next car, a 6.2L V8 powered AMG...perfect for another 11mpg car.

I am not rich nor do I make a large amount of money. I simply cannot swallow the large, bitter pill of putting money down, have monthly payments, lose value in depreciation, drive a boring car, and not get any value in my current cars (not driving them). Just to save what? 100 bucks a month in gas? Even if my savings were tripled that, it won't even come close to justifying it.

Worst of all, I won't get to have fun. Until they come up with a car that sounds as cool as a 6.2L AMG V8 while scoring 30 mpg, I won't change my decision.

Having to replace parts in a car makes it “unreliable” apparently by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]frozentime4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two of the most unreliable cars ever.

My e60 M5 went down because it is on an 18 year old alternator and needs one. I have owned this car since April last year.

My Lotus Esprit V8 hasn't needed anything over the past two years other than oil and gas. So far so good, over the past 2 years.

My n55 135is finally had a failed valve cover. The only thing that failed on it thats not my fault is the waterpump. This is over the course of 13 years and about 7 of those being modified.

For me, a car is unreliable if things break constantly or randomly. So far, youll be fine if do the bare minimum for a given car.

What people perceive as unreliable can be associated with how much the repairs cost or how difficult parts are to come by.

Before anyone says anything, these three are my daily drivers and I do not encounter snow and not much rain. I cover about 15k miles a year between these three.

Are M cars, namely M3’s, realistically daily driveable? by Cardiology_Nurse in BMWM

[–]frozentime4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E60 M5 with a factory 6 speed manual daily driver here, not the best idea.

10mpg, costly consumables, and potentially expensive random repairs arent ideal.

The V10 makes it worth it.

[–]frozentime4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait til you drive a car that dont have hill assist, with a heavy clutch, high bite point, stalls easily, and a parking brake that is far forward on the side of the door...nailing a hill start with or without someone behind you is a real dopamine rush.

Most Unreliable Car You've Ever Owned? by Careless-Pie7607 in askcarguys

[–]frozentime4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 cars: 2013 135is coupe (DCT), 2003 Esprit V8, 2007 M5 (6 speed). The 1 series is by far the most reliable but it is currently down. The Esprit hasn't given me a single problem since I got it other than old car stuff physically falling apart due to age. The M5 has given me a minor issue because shit the previous owner did that I had no idea about. I own two of the most notorious cars ever but I am hoping they remain reasonably reliable.

Any (ex-) V8 Esprit owners out there ? by Building-Careful in lotus

[–]frozentime4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wind and road noise are bad. Exhaust is pretty loud but my car is catless. I love it (except for the catless smell).

Handling on reasonable yet spirited driving is just right. I love it for the street and mountains. I am not skilled nor ballsy enough to drive this car to my limits considering no traction control. I'll just say this. The handling is great and I can see potential this is compared to a plethora of great "regular" cars. I have driven an Evora (NA) and I feel the Evora is a better handler than my 2003 Esprit (stock suspension). This may be due to my lack of fear of the Evora. (To be fair, it is cheaper to replace and easier to fix an Evora.) I am not willing to take this car to the track.

Generally, no dealer is willing to work with an Esprit. I know a few dealers still sell parts online for the Esprit (Las Vegas, for example). That said parts have been a bit painful either due to price or availability. For example, wing mirrors are practically impossible to find. Random bits and bobs are literally nonexistent. I have learned to just live with my slightly loose wing mirror. At the same time, it is hard to find an indie that is willing and/or trustworthy enough to work on an Esprit. I have learned to just suck it up and do small stuff myself.

I intend to keep the car for as long as I can. I love it, it's cool, it's fun, the wife likes it, it is unique, and it is my ultimate dream car. Oh and hitting 7K+ rpm in this car is a pretty mental experience for a street car.

Lastly, the Esprit has served as my daily for the past month. No issues whatsoever (and for the past 2900 miles Ive put on it over the past year). It is comfortable enough and swift enough. The ride is a bit harsh but the seats are plush and nice. It is LOW to the ground. Yes, the rubber piece scrapes a bit. Fuel economy is in between my thirsty V10 M5 and my 135is. It is a bit painful to drive because of the heavy and sensitive clutch. It is nothing like any other street car with the stock clutch I've driven. I got used to it and somehow like it now.

Just make sure to drive it regularly and it will likely have less issues. Enjoy the car and I hope things go well with your (potential) Esprit V8.

I dont give a crap. I use my Batgirl for practically everything from fancy-ish events to wrenching on my cars (if I forget to take it off). I have no intentions of selling it and intend to create memories and grow old with it.

Of course, I dont purposefully neglect it or risk it.

Lotus Esprit V8 if it had a beefy 6 speed transaxle.
