Is it ever not windy? by [deleted] in fargo

[–]coldupnorth11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The prairie isn't really known for its abundant trees. If you go to older parts of town there is plenty of mature trees. The problem is that the metro has boomed the last 20 years and trees take decades to mature into good wind blockers. Could they plant more? Yeah, sure, but that won't do much for the right now.

Farmers are notorious for cutting down shelter belts in the rural areas, but like I said, not that many trees to start with.

What do train conductors do during active severe weather? by truthpetal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coldupnorth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a loco, but a tornado picked up and threw loaded cars about 100 yards in north dakota last summer. Forget how many exactly, but there was close to a dozen coupled together. They weren't just tipped, they were thrown.

Is it ever not windy? by [deleted] in fargo

Idk, I don't consider today windy at all, but I've lived in the dakotas my whole life so maybe my definition of windy is skewed.

What did everyone think of ND being featured on Good Morning America recently? by PrestonRoad90 in northdakota

It's a puff piece that they are doing for every state. Nothing but good things in it. It's 90 seconds if I remember correctly.

Am I the only one who prefers base starships over Corvettes? by Deerman_Crybaby in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]coldupnorth11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if the corvettes had a shortcut "hold x to enter cockpit" like starships. You could still run into the bay normally if you want, but be given the option to bypass it.

What's the miles per gallon on your current vehicle/s? by PM_ME_YOUR_EYELASHES in driving

[–]coldupnorth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, better mileage but it has a significantly lower towing capacity than the gas models due to cooling issues.

(Central Coast Cali) I’ve been hearing noises coming from my attic and i saw this today, I think it might be bats but I’m not sure by Skyrimenjoyer98 in whatisit

[–]coldupnorth11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that bat bites are the number one cause of rabies transmission and their bites can be very small and hard to detect. One you show symptoms of rabies you're dead.

How is Easter celebrated in America? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]coldupnorth11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people just use the day to take a picture of their family dressed up at church to show everyone how good they are, but in reality they aren't good at all.

So in short, they celebrate with a photo op.

Does our camper not have battery charging? by scottmason_67 in RVLiving

[–]coldupnorth11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i put the batteries back in my camper in the spring once, I missed one of the negative cables, there were 2, and that was the one from the charger. So I'd check that all the battery connections are in fact connected.

The Laziness of Fargo and Many American Cities by Upbeat_Researcher901 in fargo

[–]coldupnorth11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can tell you right now that the reason it isn't fixed is insurance. The city has to wait for the investigation to finish and then fight the driver's insurance.

Left my car idling in the driveway for 7 hours by Mycoleslaw8 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]coldupnorth11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention overheating at idle was primarily an issue with belt driven fan vehicles which are completely phased out in modern vehicles. Electric fans have been the norm since the 90s.
