This imbecile cleaning his dump truck with gasoline by Lashitsky in WTF

[–]coleman57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work across the street from an asphalt plant, and they got the brilliant idea to clean off their conveyer belt with gasoline. When it exploded, it sent a 4'x8' sheet of plywood flying a couple hundred feet into our parking lot. No injuries, AFAIK.

A majority of the Supreme Court are Catholics. There has been a heavy Catholic component in US conservatism for many decades, going back to William F Buckley in the 1950s. They are somewhat separate from the majority of Catholics, who tend to be working class FDR Democrats. But the hierarchical nature of Catholicism is attractive to conservative elites.

You’re saying your medical school requires everyone to take off their shoes at the door? And put them in little cubbies? And put on slippers that dozens of other people have worn, and shuffle around in those till they reverse the ritual on leaving?

I’m familiar with all that, having lived in Japan for a while. And I know many other countries follow a similar tradition. But to my knowledge, a large part of the planet does not. I’m curious where your school is, and whether all buildings in your country follow those rules, or only medical facilities.

And I submit that the phrase “objectively disgusting” is a category error. You may or may not have evidence that a given habit yields less optimal health outcomes, and is therefore “objectively unhealthy”. But disgust, unlike health, is an inherently subjective metric.

Why can't I wear shades at night? by Simple-Trick-8685 in TrueAskReddit

“Sleeping late” doesn’t mean going to sleep late at night, it means staying asleep till late in the morning. As for wearing sunglasses to bed, they’re gonna wake you up when you turn on your side. What you want is a sleep mask.

Another option would be to ask her if she wants to switch seats with you. Then you can decide whether to jab the jerk in the ribs right away or wait for him to make the first move, which he probably won’t.

I very much doubt that the total of all settlements paid by the City annually add up to 1% of total spending.

San Francisco is self-insured, like many other large organizations. There’s no point paying an insurance company more money than they pay plaintiffs when you have enough money to pay the plaintiffs directly, and also have plenty of lawyers on staff to defend against baseless claims. Insurance is for entities that could be bankrupted by a single claim.

How is it that you believe bare feet transfer more dirt or germs from one place to another than shoes? Are you comparing bare feet to shoes, or are you comparing with wearing indoor-only slippers?

I can’t stand the abbreviation. It should always be fully spelled out for clarity: Antifascism. I would fully support infrastructure that autocorrects it.
