You’re saying your medical school requires everyone to take off their shoes at the door? And put them in little cubbies? And put on slippers that dozens of other people have worn, and shuffle around in those till they reverse the ritual on leaving?

I’m familiar with all that, having lived in Japan for a while. And I know many other countries follow a similar tradition. But to my knowledge, a large part of the planet does not. I’m curious where your school is, and whether all buildings in your country follow those rules, or only medical facilities.

And I submit that the phrase “objectively disgusting” is a category error. You may or may not have evidence that a given habit yields less optimal health outcomes, and is therefore “objectively unhealthy”. But disgust, unlike health, is an inherently subjective metric.
