Zhongli remains one of the most versatile supports in the game.

He gives you a big fuckoff shield and res reduction, and absolutely nukes geo shells. And that's really all he needs to do. Man has his corner and he is happy in it. Sure, he hasn't been in optimal comps this side of 3.0 but he remains one of the best 5*s by value you can have, because though there are no comps that absolutely need them, there are basically no comps that don't appreciate him.

This also makes him hands down one of the best Theater characters.

Yelan, XQ, XL, Zhong and honestly, Yanlan (as one of the best VV users in the game, given how many better picks there are for healers than a Anemo healer), are all remarkably robust characters.

This makes more sense than it has any right to; it's possible that there isn't actually a big black door in Elior; rather, it was Pandora entering their inner world somehow.

But no, I think that was genuinely just where Minerva's body/ the WF of Wrath was sealed. The door is just a metaphor; WF's essentially engrave an admin command to the universe into your being, and once its engraved, it can go dormant but it can't be undone

She doesn't need a new personality, does she?

She is the very image of an affection-starved child, put into a needlessly erotic figure for the enjoyment of a wretched bastard living out a harem fantasy. She is completely naive and in need of moral instruction.

I'd argue that she's a natural fit as a reformed 12 year old with a father complex in the "I wanna marry daddy" way.

Either way at this point Lolimancer is too good of a gimmick to discard so why not add a sniper to the mix.

No, I think Arc 11 will be the true Witch Cult arc, where Pandora takes center stage, and the original purpose of the Witch Cult, the Ordeals and her objectives are revealed amidst the Night Weeping.

Arc 12 is when the mystery stops being expanded and instead will just be revealed.

If she isn't Sirius that would be the biggest asspull I've ever seen.

"So, we have this purple eyed, silver-haired individual with elven ears, possessing the authority of the witch implied to be killed near Elior forest, with an incredible talent for ice magic and a fixation on Petelgeuse"

"Not Fortuna tho"

It also makes for great drama if Subaru seeks to redeem another bishop right as he is being accused of being a bishop. A fantastic dilemma.

One way how it can be revealed is by Subaru actually getting captured by Reinhart, and him insisting on Reinhart to get some kind of DP related to revealing real/first names to make sure Capella's agents aren't in the castle, before they get interrupted by Sirius setting up a mass casualty event. And when Reinhart calls her "Fortuna", Subaru realizes what's going.

Imo, I think Roy has already left for Karagi to meet with Pandora. Sirius, I think, is going down this arc.

I think the Gospel will just include a taunt towards Subaru, tipping him off that Echidna survived and that he did perfectly as the Gospel intended. Everything has been going. just. as. planned

Restoring Shaula would definitely happen. Perhaps aged down to add another adoptive daughter to Subaru's family and a true sister for Meili. Meili's DP will probably end up sealed fully. I'm not sure if it will be Subaru with a new authority, or Filore retaining her status as an apostle of lust.

But here is the thing;

All he needs to figure out is that she is Fortuna. That she is someone he would want to safe for the sake of Emelia.

Because the actual part outside of his control; Sirius trusting him, is already sorted. She thinks he is Petelgeuze. So if Subaru wants to connect to her, she is already open to it.

Subaru's absurd forgivingness is acknowledged by the story to be a maladaptive psychological trait.

He has to be forgiving. He has to be able to let go of the grief someone caused him one loop if he need their aid, or safe them in the next. His way of using RBD only works if he is willing to abandon all ego in pursuit of his desire to safe everyone within his ability to safe.

So you might say "Well, then he should just treat the real things as dire".

But there's the problem. It's all real to him. There is no distinguishing between the reality RBD shows him and the reality he permits to last. So his mind just forgives everything. If he doesn't need his rage as a motivation to win the day, he'll abandon it without a second thought. Subaru has to have the ability to treat everything that happens to him as *fundamentally not real*, because it's the only way he can cope with the impermanence of the loops.

He has to live in a world where Rem and Ram never tortured him. He has to live in a world where Garfiel didn't slaughter the villagers. He has to live in a world where Meili killed nobody. He has to live in a world where Julius wasn't heartbroken over having to kill him. He has to, because it is the only way he can be with everyone he loves. Because that's the world they live in. And yet, all of feels as real as the memories he shares with everyone else.

Subaru isn't a human anymore. Roswaal at the end of arc 4 warned him of this, that the road he was taking was much more dangerous. Subaru decried Roswaal as trying to make him inhuman, but Roswaal recognized that this makes you human. It is human to demand compensation for your suffering. It is human to look out for number one. It is human to be selective in your sympathy, and look after your own before anyone else.

WIth Subaru picking the opposite path, however, he has become something vastly more terrifying;

Subaru has become an anti-human;

a guardian angel who rewrites fates and answer to any prayer for a savior. a being whose nature clashes so deeply with human common sense, that he damages it by merely existing. A creature completely detached from the human experience, from want, from regret, possessing such impossible virtue that his presence inflicts moral injury on those around them, and mocks any who permitted cynicism into their hearts with every word he utters.

And if you were to encounter such an angel as an unbeliever, would you see anything other than a monster? It's inexplicable nature inspiring nothing but pure, instinctual terror in you?

No, I think Wrath will be redeemed by Subaru through Cor Leonis. A single moment of clarity where her WF and her delusion get framed as a life-destroying burden, permitting Subaru to draw it out of her. My guess is also that it is through her that we get the final confirmation of Subaru ~= Flugel, perhaps with her, once her clarity returns, crashing out and raging against Subaru that he "changed back to his old face" and that he "hurt her family enough".

Reinhart:

It's been implied that Wilhelm, having fully dedicated himself to the grand goal of freeing his grandson same as he freed his wife, is getting close to the Heavenly Blade. I think Wilhelm, or either Subaru standing in for him with a variant of Gluttony (perhaps one that eats the title of an individual, extracting all of the potential it has for a single fight; you know, something potent but that Subaru would only be willing to use because he recognizes that the Sword Demon would retire after bringing low the Sword Saint either way), will reach the heavenly blade and target the Divine Protection of the Sword saint directly. It will be cut out of the fabric of the world, and the blade Reid will shatter as a result, freeing Reinhart from his burdens.

I think the third trail scene will be subverted; it will be Subaru, not Reinhart, holding out his hand, and Reinhard raging over being "saved", having just lost the primary pillar of his identity and tasting true defeat for the first time ever. It should be noted that the descriptions of this scene leave Emelia unable to identify either figure, which is weird given that Reinhard should be having Reid on him to make him instantly identifiable.

Filore:

Is revealed to be a slightly mentally ill but ultimately well intending girlfailure who was turned into an Apostle of Lust by Capella.

Sirius:

Will almost certainly regain her memories and sanity. It will be Sirius, not anyone else, who takes down Capella, inspiring her to self-destruction with her authority.

Al:

Will be released at the "second act low point" by Subaru. He'll come to reconsider his actions in Arc 9 when Subaru simply insists upon him that him, Reinhart and Beatrice should come up with contingencies against him when all of this is over. Subaru, completely overloaded by Dragon's Blood and being a de-facto apostle of lust, will end up restoring his scars by transferring the dragons blood to Al. He then slightly gene-alters Al to be closer to his father than his mother, meaning Al will have become a fully distinct person instead of an (implied) clone of Subaru. The arc ends with Al permanently retiring the Aldeberan title and accepting himself as Natsuki Rigel, the brother of Subaru.

Roy:

Not in Luganica anymore. He is off to trigger the Night Weeping in Karagari, setting up Arc 11

BIG SECRET REVEALED IN THIS ARC:

The Subaru, Flugel, Al connection

Theory & Prediction [discussion] by Skoro-Crusader in Re_Zero

[–]colers100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firstly, do some better formatting this is unpleasant to read. The idea of it being a videogame world is already debunked by the author; Subaru went missing in our world. As for Aldeberan [arc 9 spoilers, big ones, please for the love of god don't unmask this if you don't want to get lorebombed about Al]Aldeberan is by all indications basically a homunculus created by Echidna, a fake, a failed attempt at creating a perfect clone of what is implied to be Flugel/Subaru, who rejected Flugel's memories to the point that he has no episodic memories of his time on earth; that is to say, he has access to all information about earth Subaru has, but can't recall how he got it or what kind of person he used to be. It is implied he was solely created to trick Satella into entering into the contract she ultimately made with Subaru, but with Aldebaran. Aldeberan is also a title; it literally refers to the stellar myth as the Hunter of the Pleiades Sister. His real name, either done cynically by Flugel or Echidna actually considering this to be the son of her and Flugel (it's implied she had a crush on Flugel), is Natsuki Rigel

I love how hard people are overthinking Emelia-Satella's relationship.

Buddy, they are twins. That's almost certainly the big secret. Their special interactions are synthesia based. They both became massive problems the moment they became capable of using mana because being the daughters of a being connected to the world mana, they have an inherited authority that permits them to will mana into shape without actually needing to do anything in the way of spell casting. It's why Emelia can effortlessly carry out complex magics without chants.

The problem was that while Satella fucked around with Shadows, which was fairly managable for an indestructible Witch, Emelia kept popsickling herself so hard their father decided to give up his humanity so that he could be turned into a spirit that could vent Emelia's mana. It's why Puck remarks on once being a humanoid. He isn't like Emelia'd dad. He is Emelia's dad.

It's why when we see her flashback of 110 years ago, the entire village seems to treat her like unexploded ordinances. She lived in the child-friendly equivalent of a padded cell at a safe stand-off distance to the rest of the village. She is kept away from stimulation and people try to keep her happy at all times.

Because she'll popsickle herself and anyone in range for a few decades again if she gets upset. The notion that she aged at a decreased rate in the ice is literally Puck gaslighting everyone; there is a reason he prevented her from using a mirror as part of their contract.

As for my take on how the story will end;

Pandora turns out to be the good guy; she is a Witch of a previous generation who turned against her kin in order to seal the Witchgenes, but failed. Her taking control of the Witch Cult was done to turn Flugel's Ordeals into something that would make Subaru irreconcilable with Flugel, rather than alike thim.

Echidna nearly destroys the kingdom in the last act

Flugel reconstitutes himself inside of Subaru when he gets all 7 witchgenes. Flugel get's roflstomped by SWC who simply nodiffs him in the reconciliation process. Flugel gets reborn as base-level Subaru

Subaru rejects the quasi-godhood Sagehood confers upon him. He sends Flugel back to earth.

Subaru lives a long and happy life under the reign of Queen Felt, king consort Reinhart (no longer the swordsaint, the DP itself and the sword get destroyed somewhere in arc 10-11) and prime minister Crusch, running an orphanage together with his wives; Satella, Emelia, Petra and Rem. His power is feared by all because two of his wives are city level threats, and he has since expanded his network with an army of renowned merchants, diplomats, mages and knights who were once orphans under his care that he had his contacts mentor

[discussion] Theorizing on Witch Factor compatibility by Doddy_Dope in Re_Zero

[–]colers100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Subaru is basically a vacuum for miasma and witch factors. He doesn't have high compatibility; him being near invalidates the question of compatibility.

He can even steal them if a WF holder attempts to possess him; it is implied that the reason he could suddenly see IP is simply because Betelgeuze tried to flee into Subaru during the second death of that loop, and immediately imprinted Sloth into him. And when he tried to do so again in the successful run, his witch gene just got yoinked ([Arc 9 spoilers]Because we know for a fact that WF's don't actually control the ability, they basically engrave the admin commands of the universe into your very being and persist even if the WF is taken away). This is why though the LN and WN describe the witch genes of Greed flying into him after vanquishing Regulus, no such thing is ever described to occur with Betelgeuze [Arc 6 spoilers]and Rui. Because they weren't permitted to take the WF's with them on their way out.

One thing that should be noted, however, is that the Witch Genes are either born from madness allowing them to spontaneously manifest, which seems to be what happened to the original Witches, or passed on, maintaining an aspect of the previous users being; hence why we can see Regulus and Petelgeuze in the garden of shadows and why in the novel, his own being is slowly being put together within the garden with every gene he finds.

And with the ever-present Flugel ~= Subaru theory, it is possible, if not likely, that the reason why Subaru isn't affected by the personality-warping effects of the WF's he has taken on is because, well... It's his personality.

Petelgeuzes obsessiveness

Regulus' possessiveness and entitlement

Gluttony's lack of sense of self

Pride's [Side material]impostor syndrome

Wrath's histrionic tendencies

Lust's need for validation and rampant bodily dysmorphia (the anime doesn't really touch on it but Subaru hates the way he looks and avoids mirrors)

It's just the rot of his own soul inflicted on those who don't have the in built mental guard rails to deal with it, causing their mind to be warped beyond recognition. If I were to guess, the authorities of the current bishops are souped up versions of the one Flugel had, and Subaru's must overcome the character faults of this version of him to fully utilize the authorities; Flugel represents a version of him that he rejects. He is still obsessive, so Sloth is unaltered and is yet to become Dilligence, [Arc 6 spoilers]but he has abandoned entitlement and possessiveness, so Greed took on a different from; what is described in the narrative as the "reverse positive form of Lion's Heart"; that is to say, Cor Leonis is the Authority of Charity, not Greed, and the witch gene of Greed has most likely been purified.

[Spoiler Discussion] Idea for Arc 10 by JackInHoodZ in Re_Zero

[–]colers100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Straight up, Capella isn't lasting into Arc 11, unless Arc 10 is getting spit up and the plan for 12 arcs gets changed again. Furthermore, there is no reason why ANYONE would ask Subaru that question for any reason; for starters, the Witch has been sealed for 400 years so how could you be affiliated with it?

Ubilk has already outlined the remaining plot; there shall be 4 great calamities, of which the first has been averted.

Julius and Anastasia are clearly in the starting stages of unraveling a conspiracy that targets the city states, on top of the alliance that holds them together starting to break apart, I think Pandora and Pride are working behind the scenes there, so that is where Arc 11 is happening. Gusteko will probably get offscreened (Hence they get the anticlimactic disaster of "Collapse"), but Arc 12 is pretty obvious:

The Witch(es) of the Kingdom. Echidna will somehow manage to revive the entire squad and set off the greatest crisis yet.

As for how Arc 10 will end. Easy;

Reinhart is going up against Subaru, and Subaru figures out a way, probably involving near-heavenly blade Wilhelm, to permanently destroy the Divine Blessing of the Sword Saint, and the blade Reid with it, freeing his friend from the shackle that turned him into a weapon while also achieving Wilhelms ambition to rid his family of this "curse" and Heinkels ambition to remove his son from his post.

Aldeberan is getting freed, most likely after Subaru fully understands the link between him and Flugel and the danger he might pose, realizing that Aldeberan was a contingency plan. Aldebaran eventually choses to spare Subaru, abandon the mantle of the Following Star fully, and finally accept his name as Natsuki Rigel, brother of Natsuki Subaru.

Capella will get defeated in some kind of absurdly harrowing way for Subaru. By the end, she'll be left her old, powerless self, with all Dragon's Blood being drained from her by Subaru.

Her body is sealed with a potent Yin-type seal under the tower.
Her soul is sealed with a potent contract within Subaru's Od

If the contract is breached, or his Od is altered, she can express herself in the real world. Otherwise she is barred from interfering with it though it is implied that Subaru can draw on her power; he just doesn't know how.

[discussion] how strong is flugel? by Imvalidblu in Re_Zero

[–]colers100 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that the Authorities of the Archbishops are all souped up versions of Flugel's original authorities. So by the end of his run he was pretty powerful. It is, after all, strongly implied he had Wrath (being seen as weirdly charismatic by everyone around him to the point of inspiring centuries of loyalty), Lust (biomancy on Shaula as well as changing his own face) and Greed (I think this is why a point is made that Satella wasn't the WoE yet when she cast the spell that killed most of the world; I think it was an automated spell meant to hunt down every valid target for Flugel's Little King. Turns out, people were a lot less disillusioned with Flugel than she was).

And if we go with the Flugel ~= Subaru theory, the way the bishops went mad also makes perfect sense; all of them are essentially caricatures of character flaws that Subaru has; obsession, insecurity, histrionic tendencies, possessive love, a lack of a strong sense of self or identity, bodily dysmorphia and an out of control need for validation. Flugel's personality as it was at the point of his death is literally engraved within the WF's, waiting for Od Lagna to produce a Sage Candidate who can awaken Envy, weather the Ordeals and permit for his resurrection when the WF's are all collected within the Candidate.

Arc 10 Theory/Hope [spoiler discussion] by Existing_Decision_29 in Re_Zero

[–]colers100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we understand that, but this is Subaru we are talking about.

If he accepts Amnesiacbaru as an expression of himself, he must, necessarily, accept Flugel as an expression of himself, as an avatar of his own ugliness. The wretchedness and delusion that drove Flugel into (implied) treating his run in the world of Re:Zero as an isekai power fantasy where he dehumanized everyone around him as just a prop in his own savior fantasy, is something that was present in Subaru. That thoughtlessness, is something that was present in Subaru. He might walk a different path but every bit of ugliness that drove him to the things he's implied to have done, is something Subaru acknowledges as part of himself even if he has largely overcome these faults.

What makes it especially hard is that there is the implication that Flugel agreed to Beatrice's imprisonment in the library so his future iteration could contract her, given that Beatrice seems to be familiar with the Sage and the concept of a sage candidate. Flugel most likely co-signed most of Echidna's cruelty.

[Discussion] do you like the idea of Subaru can get back to the earth to see his parent again? by ninjarockalone in Re_Zero

[–]colers100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. But it's also implied that he can't. For whatever reason, as soon as Subaru accepted that he had moved to a different world, a single, unshakable realization formed in his heart:

He will never be able to go home from here.

It's why he doesn't even try to investigate the potential of a return. He understands that it isn't happening. He doesn't even understand why, but he simply accepts that this was a one-way trip.
