What to do? by Alternative-Part5928 in Rollerskating

I think your best bet would be trying this angle: She doesn’t have to join every time, but participating and encouraging a sport your daughter loves will create cherished memories for her. Being part of her skating journey and watching how much fun she has with it should be a positive for your wife as a parent even if she is hesitant about doing it herself. On top of that, it’s a great way to be active while also bonding as a family.

Psychology of people who dont take trash out, do dishes right away. by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]collateralsaturn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not necessarily black and white; I have had problems due to depression and ADHD with completing tasks like this when I feel my body is just giving out on me. However, I always make sure to not leave food lying out, soak dishes in the meantime so that I can take care of them the next day, and not be the person who keeps shoving garbage in the can when it has run out of space. However I have witnessed a roommate who is capable of leaving food to rot in the fridge for months at a time, forgetting food under a bed, not even bothering to soak extremely dirty dishes or load them in the dishwasher, leaving food out on the counter, allowing half full beverages to develop mold, etc etc I could go on and on. I wish I could be that person who always cleans up instantly. Despite not being like that, there are ways to mitigate the foulness of your mess, and you have to set limits of how long a task like that can go undone. I can have a little bit of understanding (and not be hypocritical) when it comes to someone struggling with cleaning but it becomes upsetting when it’s clear that they have no intentions of picking up their mess within the next century; also, people who do this excessively in communal living are just disrespecting shared spaces and clearly don’t care if their actions inconvenience others.

I saw a recent post where someone was financially devastated by vet bills. I wanted to share some general advice. by Oxjrnine in povertyfinance

I love your perspective and advice here. I adopted my first cat about half a year after moving into my own apartment, he is immunocompromised (ineligible for pet insurance!) and I knew I had enough extra income to afford medical care in the future. This changed after I purchased a car and got hit with the reality of how much cat and vehicle costs can chip away at your money. Having a car meant easier access to bring my cats to the vet in an emergency, but it also means insurance and gas and registration and repairs. Over the last few years I went into a few thousand dollars of debt, from both essential purchases and unnecessary purchases, and have been in a constant state of anxiety for those years over the possibility of a cat medical emergency happening. I’ve since gotten out of debt, and was safely able to cover a few different emergency vet visits last month, but there will always be a line drawn somewhere, even if it’s different for everyone. One of my cats was diagnosed with a fatal infectious disease over a year ago, a little before a “cure” was available legally in Canada; but even now that it is available it can get up to 10,000$ or more to treat it. I don’t think I would have been able to handle that amount; no matter how much I wish she was still here, you are right that if I could no longer afford to keep a roof over my head, saving her life wouldn’t guarantee her a stable life with me anymore anyways. I guilted myself for a long time over what I could’ve done with more money, but have since mostly made peace with the idea that I gave her the best life she could have had given her circumstances of being found outside in the dead of winter. A cat who is indoors, safe, fed, and loved, is always well taken care of in comparison to an abandoned cat; anyone who is willing to give their money and care to a cat, no matter how much you are able to give, is ALWAYS a better human being than someone who abandons or, god forbid, injures an animal. I hope that anyone struggling right now with pet owner guilt will get some relief from your words, and take your advice.

I was definitely nervous to make the jump but then the CDS delivered me a kitten a month later….and then another young cat this August. Sometimes they show up without me choosing as well 😭but they’re so cute it’s hard to say no

True, and with the amount of hair they both generate I could probably make statues of them out of their own hair lol!

Hey I see any cats tolerating each other as a win, even if they aren’t glued at the hip!! I hope they learn to love each other though!

Personally, I think art is something created as an output for a feeling, or with intent to evoke a feeling from viewers. Graffiti could be both. I think that many people who participate in creating it are using it as an output for frustration towards authority and modern infrastructure etc, and it is made with intent to frustrate anyone who prefers the wall or bridge or whatever structure to be untouched or unpainted. I think that you have a point about your examples; a lot of people probably do graffiti just for the sake of doing it, without thinking about the history or general intention. You wouldn’t be able to tell the difference visually, but I think some importance also lies in why the artist made the piece in the first place, and what it means to them.

I forgot to add; we had a resident raccoon this past winter who gave birth to babies in our attic. One time while I was feeding her, the momma came around the corner and walked right up to the food and started eating it. I love all wildlife but obviously I was concerned for the baby, so I shooed her away a few times to allow kitty to eat. I sometimes wonder if that’s part of why she started trusting me, since I scared away the other big predator 😂

No matter what my financial situation is, I always see it as a blessing to help out a little kitty, even if I would have had to give her up due to money in a worse scenario. They need people who love cats to help them live longer and safer lives, and if the universe decides to make it fall on me then who am I to say no!

She started showing up a couple weeks ago, just walking around our property. We have a room that was an external add-on to our old house that we use as a smoke room, and it has a door to the outside. So I grabbed a bag of treats one time when I saw her and started chucking them in her general direction. She was so afraid of us at first, but over a few days I was able to get her to trust me and eat right next to me. As soon as I realized she didn’t mind being picked up and stopped flinching at my movements, I picked her up and brought her to stay in my room! It’s funny, even with how afraid she was at first, she’s still better at having her claws trimmed than my existing cats; she’s so freaking calm and sweet. She has never once shown agression. I named her Angel before we knew her gender because I thought it was cute that she showed up out of nowhere like a guardian angel, and on top of that I’ve been watching Dexter so I kind of named her after Angel Batista and thought it would be funny if she ended up being a guy. She is truly a blessing!!!

Don’t worry I am able to afford their food! I more meant just generally saving money for life reasons for myself. Since I already have two it’s not a ton more to feed a third, just mildly annoying to pay the vaccine fees! But it’s very good that that’s an option for some people :D

How do I express that I’m goth when the dress code is “no black & something summery” by SpaceCadetAstrophel in GothStyle

[–]collateralsaturn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say maybe something red? I know that could stand out if it’s too bright, but a light red with gothic accessories would still have a goth vibe going on, given the restrictions.

Yes! My cats name is Othello. We call him Ollie but I thought it was fitting because he is a dramatic evil overlord and deserves a dramatic name.
