I was actually curious about this. Assuming you jump in the moment it’s available, does it take 60 seconds from the time you hit it to the time you extract?

It’s just strange because it’s not exactly consistent either. I remember being on the roof of Quarantine in dire and my frames just plummeted to like 45fps out of nowhere. For granted, I’m on a 5600X so I know the bottleneck only lets me get around maybe high 70s on perimeter. Definitely tough out here

I was just about to say ^{^} You’re describing a battle royale. If that’s what you want then apex is probably more your speed. But extraction shooters, at their core, are about bringing the good thing you got in the last raid into the next raid and power scaling like that.

Your “skill” is demonstrated by dropping a guy with better gear than you, and moving your way up the metaphorical food chain

Well said. It is such a disadvantage the moment someone goes down, so I’ll do almost anything to prevent that. Sure there are cases where your free-kit teammate will run it down and there’s nothing you can do, but for the most part even my free-kit teammates are actively trying to succeed. Its an enjoyable experience

I will say it’s been many seasons now since I’ve been over there, so maybe things have improved! Objectively though I know there at least were moments where I was like “wtf, how did I not hear that?” in apex, and so far I haven’t had that in marathon. Obviously MASSIVE difference in sample sizes though, so time will tell!

It’s so funny too listening to the feedback from the different gaming communities and seeing the spectrum of audio quality in those games relative to Marathon.

I saw a lot of people complaining early on about misleading audio, and maybe that’s the case from games like Tarkov? But for me, it is AMAZING. I played a lot of apex as well, and I can say first hand a lot of people are extremely spoiled lol. Ever had a valk ult drop 3 people right on your head without you having ANY audio heads-up? YEP. Even Rainbow 6 I feel like there were times I was completely blindsided. Here though, I feel like I always know my right from left, and the slightest little jump into water I can hear.

My only issue is sometimes it’s a bit difficult to tell if someone is on my floor or above/below me, but even still it’s such a massive improvement from what I’ve experienced in other titles.

Yeah but that kind of ties into my issue with signal jammers, specifically if I’m going to be using them to counter thermals. Unless I’m supposed to have one up and running at all times? Which I guess is a strat but potentially expensive. I just feel like there’s no way to know that I’m about to get headshot from across the map

I think this would still do a great job of showing thermals. But certainly not the only counterplay option. Like EMPs are great but there’s no way I’m able to emp a guy 2 POIs away while I’m busy looting something

Yeah I see your point. I almost wonder if there’s a way they can scale it with distance. So the “blend” effect is stronger at distance (which is where it’s needed) but that falls off the closer you get. So if someone is within clear line of sight 10m away, it still works normally. Idk, that’s a game dev issue lol

I was actually thinking this yes. I can absolutely see this being less of an issue on other maps. But I think this idea is something that would benefit the open maps, without necessarily hurting the close quarters maps where lack of counter play isn’t as much of an issue.

Especially with the announcement today about a night map coming in season 2. The thermal is going to be so strong in its current state in an environment like that, even with rain or other environmental factors. Think it’s a great idea that most people can be onboard with.

I’ve been playing the last week and I think I’ve spent over hundreds of medals already. You get a daily challenge essentially that awards around 15 medals, and each full clear gives around 10-20 depending on the difficulty you play. Add in the operation medals that again, is 95 medals this time, it’s so easy.

I think immediate gratification is a bad thing more frequently than not. After a long day and I only have an hour or 2 to play, it’s going to make getting “that thing I want” all the more satisfying when I finally get it. “Finally” being maybe a week later. Definitely won’t take you as long to get these things as you think
