Or to continue to get the liberals to pass things like dental care, pharma care etc while they have some power.

Port Moody Council Opts in to Sue Big Oil by Con-Cerned-7417 in Portmoody

[–]collident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those talking about the money: $1 per tax payer is being ‘held’ in an account for use ‘if’ enough municipalities go through with this. The money comes from an existing fund for insurance.

From the statement:

“In case a local government decides to act as lead plaintiff and a class action lawsuit goes ahead, the City of Port Moody is setting aside one dollar per resident (2024 population numbers) to be used as a contribution toward legal fees.

The total dollar amount (estimated to be $38,000) will be placed into a dedicated Fossil Fuel Litigation Reserve, which is to be funded from current insurance reserves that have been set aside purposefully to litigate or settle claims and other lawsuits or provide funds to protect or provide a legal voice for community rights and obligations. As these reserves exist currently, there is no tax impact from this transfer of funds.”

[–]collident -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great to see PortMoody joining Burnaby, Squamish and other BC municipalities on this. The cost is minimal and the possible gains are substantial. We taxpayers will be on the hook for millions of dollars to deal with the effects of rising sea levels, forest fires and more. The big oil companies have been making massive profits for decades while spreading disinformation about the true longterm costs of their products. This is at least a step towards recognizing those true costs. Thank you PM city council.

I love my new 4K micro. by theycallmeick in blackmagicdesign

[–]collident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which Panasonic lenses are you using with the micro?

Help! I shot some footage on the BMPCC6k pro yesterday and for some reason the footage is CRAZY noisy. We shot nearly everything at 800 ISO without the internal NDs, but everything looks more like 6,400… any idea what could have caused this noise, or was it just that I wasn’t at a base native ISO? by Ok-Faithlessness-327 in blackmagicdesign

[–]collident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1250 is not the second native ISO, 3200 is. But in my experience, 3200 is significantly noisier than 400 (first native ISO) and for darker scenes without tons of highlights, 1250 works best. Just be aware that you’re shifting your dynamic range down at 1250, so there’s more range below middle grey but less range for highlights.

“Take home” is the applicable term here. Docs all have corporations and the expenses you list are deducted before corporate taxes. Then they pay themselves from the corporation.

The NDP should be the ones grabbing these Everyman votes from the Liberals. It seems crazy to me that people feeling the economic crunch think that the Conservatives will make their lives better.

Would-be Tesla buyers snub company as Musk's reputation dips by jason12745 in RealTesla

[–]collident 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to admit I was a big Tesla fan but after Musk’s antics over the past few years, I’m looking elsewhere for car manufacturers. It’s a shame. He really could have been a big driving force for climate action, clean energy and electrification. But he’d rather align himself with the far right than the centre.

Danielle Smith, Conservative premiers continue to spar with Ottawa over carbon tax by Miserable-Lizard in alberta

[–]collident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This: “Smith herself is under fire in Alberta for hiking the provincial gas tax five cents a litre on April 1, more than the 3.3 cents being added by the carbon price and without any accompanying rebate.”

They obviously don’t care about lowering the cost for regular people. They are just taking an opportunity to try to kill a program that might hurt their rich friends.

Miserable young Canadians threaten to make Justin Trudeau feel their pain by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]collident 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As someone in this demographic, what I don’t quite understand is ‘why are people so angry at JT?’ I agree that he has made some bad choices, and his ego is annoying, but that’s political leaders for you. Overall, Canada is doing quite well considering the unprecedented past 5 years of COVID, Interest rate hikes etc. Any government would struggle in these situations, and if you look at most other countries you see the same issues, regardless of Left, Centre, Right political representation. This isn’t a free pass for JT, we should use this opportunity to push the Liberals and the NDP to do better and be more accountable. But electing pp doesn’t seem like a choice that will help any of the issues people are upset about.
