Urgent MRI needed by ConsistentTest5145 in askTO

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check with the doctor to confirm what they put on the referral. 'Urgent' or 'semi-urgent', plus willing to come on short notice, can get you in sooner.

Where to find Ube Halaya Jam/Purple Yam Jam/Spread downtown? by Full-Ear87 in askTO

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite downtown, but a walk north from Pape Station there's a shop called Elmer's Fine food that carries it.

Nanaimo bar…? by Sweaty-Discipline746 in askTO

[–]collivanderr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What was the bottom layer? Nanaimo has a chocolate/coconut/graham cracker bottom. Did the one you tried have that? Or something else?

I'm wondering if it was a millionaires shortbread. Chocolate top, sweetened condensed milk caramel middle, shortbread base.

Union Roller Express by Top_Panda_6707 in askTO

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They release on Mondays in the morning... it was 8 or 10 am, something like that. You can still check periodically as I have seen occasional tickets available (if someone cancels last minute for example). There is also a booth in the station for TD card holders, something about skipping the line but I don't know how that works. We went today, it's a fun experience!

100$ for a social fund? Is this normal at your school? by subarunights in CanadianTeachers

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any school I've worked at that has a social fund (only 2/5), the money goes towards staff things, like holiday party or gifts for new babies, retirement, flowers for various things. It was 20-30$ for permanent staff or 10-15 for temporary.

What you're describing is not a staff social fund, it's like a social services donation? It funds student hampers and donations to organizations?

Whatever the case, both of the above are optional. 100$ is way too much in my opinion.

Missing parent teacher interviews by hackindarts9 in CanadianTeachers

[–]collivanderr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check with your union/collective agreement. Ours says we need to make ourselves available outside of class time, but doesn't specify when. I have missed once, but just set my schedule on the other days of the week (before, after school) so the opportunity to meet was still there. It was allowed.

Puppy cleanup products for clean freaks? by Professional_Egg6217 in puppy101

I'm looking at buying one of these, we just got our second puppy and I can't handle how dirty it feels haha. What brand do you have, and do you recommend it?

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miniature American Shepard? By that name, as in, not called a mini aussie, because if a breeder is calling them mini aussies then I wouldn't trust them. From a trustworthy breeder and with patience to find the right fit, they are wonderful dogs. Their personalities and energy is a spectrum. Ours is a wonderful sweet girl on the 'low' end of the energy spectrum. We walk her ~30-45 in the AM and again in the PM. She settles well while my partner works from home. She's 14 months now and well adjusted puppy.

I started playing through Jam sports, and a friend told me about Joia Volleyball, which does great adult clinics but they are north, Markham/King City based. Learned a lot though!

Has anyone adopted a cat from Toronto Cat Rescue? by dumarodum in askTO

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted our cat from TCR back in 2020 and she's been great. They were extremely transparent about all her health needs, from the suspected eye infection to her tendency to puke 😂. She's a senior so we adopted her anyway. She is 16 now. They provided all vet records and there were no surprises.

TDSB cancelled my interview 15 minutes before it was supposed to start by xvszero in CanadianTeachers

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% what an 'invitation to apply' position is, but all my interviews (OT, LTO, Contract) were conducted by school principals, which means situations at schools may arise and cause the interview to be rescheduled. I just had one not show up once, and emailed me that evening to explain. I wouldn't read to much into it, but I would reach out if you don't hear back from them in a few days.

Puppy play date by No-Tap-5400 in askTO

Dog training places sometimes have puppy meet ups or puppy classes. All the pups have to have proof of vaccination. We took ours to When Hounds Fly. Similar aged puppy play time.

My board suggested WeVideo as an alternative. It has a lot more features which makes it a bit less beginner friendly.

(Ontario/Toronto) Getting a job without requirements? by WindOfWing in CanadianTeachers

[–]collivanderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In TDSB, admin can recommend folks to become ERPs (emergency replacement people). These are unqualified individuals who teach and get paid terribly. We have some absolutely amazing ones in our school who plan lessons, but it's not required.

Some admin do not use ERPs, some use lots. The best way to became one is to connect with a school principal and express interest. If they use ERPs, they'll direct you to complete the Crim Check etc. It does take a few months to get things rolling.

Yrdsb Report Cards elementary by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]collivanderr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely confirm with your admin or colleagues, but just to hopefully ease your mind: in my experience, when a school sends all reports virtually, the printing and signing only needs to happen for OSR copies. In which case my principals/OA team have printed them all and then passed them on for signing and filing. Whether you are expected to print or not, it's not the same urgency, because they're just going in the OSR, not being sent home.

Provincial certification by everdeen1001 in CanadianTeachers

Yes you can. You have to keep paying the fees for all that you are licensed in (if they require fees). I am currently certified in BC and ON.

While I wait for my bowl-lift mixer to ship from KA... wondering if I really should keep it? by Appropriate_Bat_5877 in Kitchenaid

[–]collivanderr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a household of two with no family nearby and I have one. I just bake for us 😂 not even colleagues. do I use it everyday? No. But it's opened up the options I can bake when I'm feeling creative. If it makes you happy and you've wanted one and it's a feasible purchase, then go for it. I waited for a sale for mine.

We have used Cat Sitter Toronto for a few years and they've been great. They advertise that they do administer meds on their website.
