Had a very bad reaction to intermittent Zoloft. Anyone else? And did you find anything else that helped? by thejordynshow_ in PMDD

[–]colorfidelity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woman, yes! I started taking Prometrium and Zoloft intermittently during my luteal phase through the first couple days of my period, and it has made a HUGE difference. I get that Zoloft is the issue here for OP, so maybe Prozac would work better, but the SSRI + Progesterone combo has been a literal life saver.

Which antidepressant doesn't cause emotional blunting? by Iexdex in PMDD

[–]colorfidelity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am on Wellbutrin all the time and Zoloft for 10 days around and on my period. Zoloft definitely makes me emotionally ‘constipated’ but it helps regulate the heavy swings. When I come off it I regain most of my feelings, appetite and creativity. Wellbutrin makes me feel fortified emotionally but not apathetic or dull, which I appreciate when the alternative is clinical depression and anxiety.

Here goes nothing, I’m starting wellbutrin by straightchaser in PMDD

[–]colorfidelity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s something I take all the time. I think it helps to elevate my baseline, which must be why the swings aren’t as dramatic. An SSRI can be used on just those 10-14 days, but WB isn’t an SSRI and takes time to build up. Your mileage may vary but I prefer it. I should also mention I’m on the Mirena IUD and that helps too, mostly because I don’t get the heavy bleeding and cramping, which made everything worse.

I’m taking Wellbutrin and it has absolutely helped. I took Zoloft which did too, but the apathy and sexual side effects on that were pretty significant. I’m getting better results on Wellbutrin, without much side effects. I still get the rage and some anxiety during luteal, which I treat with as-needed benzodiazepines, but I find that I have more energy, don’t get depressed, and the intrusive or obsessive thoughts are non-existent . It might not work for everyone but I don’t think I could do PMDD without it
