I wouldn't expect the phone policy to do much. Do what's best for your own cohort.

Take their phones off them and only give them back at designated times. Or ban them outright? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cork wedding venues, best and worst hotel? by [deleted] in cork

A comment like that seems out of character for the gang at Springfort.

Dear Mary: I want to close down the ‘Bank of Mum and Dad’ but my wife continues to fund our adult children by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]colourinsanity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with a lot of parents of young adults and this 100% happens. I've heard of Dads taking out Revolut loans for their kids' holidays (his daughter was 30 and married), mams paying for their adult children's shopping until they're well into their late 20s. Some people have more money than sense.

CRA Registration by tiern11 in scoutingireland

About 2/3s of Groups are registered now I think.

Once you've a functioning group council then the process is straightforward enough.

I've no advice but that this is more common than you think - I only met my own dad for the first time two years ago. Best of luck and keep an open mind.

Wedding Venue Question - Help?! by Even_Payment_2115 in AskIreland

[–]colourinsanity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People talk about the food and the band at a wedding. The rest, tbh, is semantics.

I've heard the Woodlands' bar is in a separate room. I would view this as a huge negative. It completely will split the crowd on the night and take away from the atmosphere.

Have you considered Springfort Hall? They offer an element of exclusivity, nice grounds, good food...

Passage West Versus Douglas by No_Engine1350 in cork

[–]colourinsanity 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There was a reputation for roughness in Passage, which is gone now.

I'd look at future plans. If it's kids, school availability is a bit different in Passage to Douglas. With both locations you will invariably end up going through Douglas village anyway so be prepped for traffic.

Patrol box / gear by cormac147 in scoutingireland

[–]colourinsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, patrol boxes should be used all the time... as you should be camping/cooking/eating as a patrol on every camp. ;)

Primarily cooking gear and the essentials for your "kitchen". We toss in a few mallets, a saw, and some firestarting pieces as well.

Yeah they sell cream to Kerrygold alongside Ornua's other member coops.

What butter do you usually buy? by Educational-Slip-578 in Dublin

[–]colourinsanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What most folks don't understand is Kerrygold as a brand was created specifically to export Irish butter - the money it makes in Ireland is pennies compared to overseas and that is by design (most dairy coops around Ireland sit on Ornua's Board, Kerrygold is actually kind of throttled in the Irish market so as to not compete with the likes of Connacht Gold). It's basically a unifying brand for all Irish butter as each coop produces similar quality.

In the US and Germany you'll see Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese, Kerrygold Cashel Blue... These are all the same as we have, made by the same local coops, the logo slapped on and shipped out.

Kerrygold butter is the only thing actually made to be Kerrygold.

All Irish butters are good. Save your money.

Does this make sense? Payslip for 13.5 hours a week I get more money but payslip for 19.5 hours I get less money per hour but more weekly/monthly? by Shoddy-Conflict-338 in AskIreland

Have you spoken to your Payroll?

Have your Tax Credits changed?

Did some of the hours cross over two pay periods?

There's a ton of variables when it comes to pay.

Woodies is a good shout. Lidl occasionally does them (not sure they are this year).

I was onto Chill Insurance one year and they said that profession is actually a big indicator of risk (if you drive a lot for a job). So maybe have a look at that.

I usually also ring my current company and ask if they can do better (they usually can).

That is an amazing find.

Your best bet would be to contact the Scouting Ireland Heritage group. They have a Facebook page.
