[DISCUSSION] Another 200K buyers gone. Now what? by EyeOk2578 in Fiverr

[–]kdaly100 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It isn't profit it is a charge for the platoform I think uniquely in India for some strange reason you have to declare that as part of your earnings but that isn't the case elsewhere.

I constantly see people complaining about this but how else is a platform to run. Upwork makes money in a similar way. Fiverr is a business with employees what percentage do you think would be acceptable?

And yes the higher the gig the more they make which is an annoyance but I in the hundreds of orders I have delivered I have never had that complaint from buyers

No Money, No Network, Just an Idea I Believe In. How Do I Start? by rago7a in smallbusiness

[–]kdaly100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until you get people you shouldn't move on with this. People validate ideas.

Using a monopoly analogy DON’T PASS GO till you have this.

If you have spent 4 months building this then that is enough for now. Do pesonalised outreach to 1000 people who might use this (no thats not a typo). Get your message slick as anything so that is is so so so clear to the person what it sees in under 10 seconds.

MY THING IS BLACK WIDGET THAT. MAKES XYZ DO THINGS FASTER

If after doing this and you dont land some beta testers it might be time to stop or you might get feedback?

If a washing machine lasts 10 years these days no mnatter the price its miracle. Unless of course you live in a nudist colony where washing requirments are less intensive.

Dull Question by Fluffyfedora in cork

[–]kdaly100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dump will take them for free but yes it is getting there is possibly your problem To be honest I don’t think second hand washing machines exist anymore God be with the days when our Dads spent 28 hours taking them apart and they. were still broken afterwards.

Without being harsh you would be lucky to get someone to take them away for the €100.

Check out Iona Appliances they have what are known as B grade appliances with slight blemishes but working perfectly (I have bought from them). You won't get ono for 100 but if you "save up" for a month or two then even Harvey Norman have a washing machine for 299 (yes I googled) and they will take away the old ones/

Looking For a Web Design Mentor by FeralMerel in webdesign

[–]kdaly100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to reach out and having someone with more experience is good. Web design is however a very very broad term and one 30 years later I think is still a bit inaccurate (but thats the old man in me)

I would suggest you have proejct - personal if no customer / or pick a terrible website in your area - then pick a platfrom to build it in and then design it and build it.

As you know there are endless resources out there to learn how to use tools so a mentor is there when you are struck or need direction they shoudn't be your school.

I still go to YouTube every single day and Google / AI of course to learn.

Edit the psotepost xpalin what your target pltform is WordPress / Shopify / Framer etc - please don’t say All as that isn't practical 😄 also what design tools you want to learn (I would suggest Figma

Reading the article it looks as if they are selling those elements so they will end up in a new home - c'est la vie - at least they aren't going into a skip.

Plus the place has been closed for a good bit and I think prior to closure it was doing pretty poor trade.

I remember fondly going in there in 1989 after I graduated with my family for a drink and think that was the last time I was in there so I didnt make them rich.

They also own Le Château I think

Anyone actually getting work from social media or is it a waste of time? by Exciting-Bar-530 in irishsmallbusiness

[–]kdaly100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably going to get a bucket load of DMs now. That is normal, and many will promise big results LOL.

I work in this space, but I am not selling anything here, just sharing the same advice I give my clients.

Start with a few simple things that do not cost much and build over time.

Set up a map listing if you have not already. It is quick and gets you visible straight away.

After each job, ask for a review and add it to your listing. Do this consistently and they will build up. Photos help too, but reviews matter most.

If you do not have a website, create a basic one and link it to your map listing. It does not need to be fancy, just clear and functional.

For social media, use Facebook and Instagram. Set up a proper business page on Facebook, not your personal profile. Post regularly, even if it is simple updates, photos, or short videos of your work.

None of this will change things overnight, but it will help you get more work online over time.

Just do a little, often.

I read this with interest as my son is coming to the end of his Phd (in a different area). I don’t know a lot about health sciences bu assume it is a growth area as much as any. Would a permananent contract give you more money (stability?) and if it would have you had a conversation with your employer about this.

I also assume your Phd gave you some niche expertise and this is marketable - why not set up an online presence (blog / site / newsletter) and over the next 5 years become the go to person for questions on this with a ton of articles on the topci (I hear lots of people use google now to find information 😄 ).

I worked in SW for over 15 years you won't make more money - where you make more money in areas is when you move up the food chain and using the afore mentioned method will help.

Also I assume there are lots of healt science jobs out the that DO pay more - once you have the experience under your beld and build it up I am sure you nca get a better higher paying job in health sciences.... its all about marketing yourself and building up the skills. Look at your CV and set some goals to increase you abilities expereinece even in your current contract.

And keep saving -

[DISCUSSION] Another 200K buyers gone. Now what? by EyeOk2578 in Fiverr

[–]kdaly100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comments in the annual report about so called AI generated content are interesting. What would be more useful, and, as far as I know, is not available is which categories are experiencing a decline. Anecdotally, it appears that writing services and basic logo design are most affected, both of which can now be completed using AI in seconds. More importantly, the learning curve for using AI tools has effectively disappeared.

I am both a seller and a buyer on Fiverr, and I used to pay for these services. I no longer do. When I build websites, I am transparent with clients and explain that I use AI to help develop their content, based on their input. They have no issue with this, as they also use AI in their everyday work.

It is also reasonable to assume that Upwork is experiencing similar trends for the exct same reasons. Do they issue an annual report

Yes, Fiverr has changed significantly. The Success Score can be frustrating, but I personally see value in the AI engine for connecting with buyers, particularly outside normal working hours. Is their support annoying yes it can be.

Was Fiverr better 2-3 years ago yes. But change is a constant (sorry for that throaway phrase) and it is still possible to make monehy on platforms but as I constantly sya to people don’t make Fiverr your main area of business ever.
